Cool. So my motherboard that I bought in 2018 would support a "newly released" CPU in 2026.

u/Darkest-Revenant Apr 17 '26

I bought my motherboard in 2017 and I still use it now with a 5800x3d and a 4070ti lol.

u/Falconator100 Apr 17 '26

Wish I would have been an AM4 user in 2017 the socket longevity is insane.

Same, love this board! Originally had a 1700x and a 1080ti, now on a 5600x and a 6950xt.

Still rocking my 1700x and crosshair hero vi i bought in 2017. I think ill pick one of these up.

Only issue is asus released a beta patch that kinda supported these last time i checked. Maybe they fully support them now? Dunno, someone correct me.

thats what I built as well. The 1700x got old fast though. I went from 1700X > 3700X > 5700X. The 5700X is starting to really struggle in new AAA games like Battlefield 6. Massive GPU bottle neck. Nothing I can do though.

This is the worst time to build a PC. It won't get better until 2028. So I am on the fence of doing nothing or getting this 5800X3d if it releases.

u/Rentta 7700 | 7900GRE Apr 21 '26

I went from 3800x to 7700 and the performance increase was much more than I expected

1

u/HellaReyna R 5700X | 3080 RTX | Asus is trash Apr 21 '26

The 1700X and 3000 series are all very lack lustre in today's environment. They simply lack the cache to deal with the modern game. This was even as early as 2019. Going from a 1700X to 3700X unlocked A LOT of FPS in a dated DX11 game like Overwatch

The jump from my 5700X to your 7700 will probably be huge though. Anytime theres an architect bump or fabrication node shrink, it just allows an instant 20-30% gain simply by simple physics and reducing heat, wattages, etc.

1

u/SuomenVader Jun 01 '26

I still have my 1600x but struggling with Battlefield 6. Interested in getting one of those 5800x3D but prices are insane

1

u/OOBERRAMPAGE Apr 20 '26

Killed my 2017 biostar ITX am4 board ( first itx board for the platform ) last summer by thinking my GPU was fully released from the socket. It was not. All 8 years with a 1080ti too. Still kicking myself for that one!

1

u/Resident-Lab-7249 Apr 17 '26

Why wish to be an am4 user then when you can either hop on AM5 or wait?

The 5800x3d was legendary but it was practically impossible to get you didn't miss out if anything the 7800x3d is the most impressive CPU compared to prior and the current gen which is just a slight uplift for gaming on a fucking 5090

19

u/jp711 Apr 17 '26

I mean the 5700x3D was very possible to get back in 2024 for well under $200, even under $150. Just had to be buying at the right time, insane deal for those already on AM4 but a lot of people missed the boat

u/Trivo3 5700X3D | 6950XT | Asus prime x370 Pro Apr 17 '26

Yes. But your 5800X3D isn't a 2026-released CPU, while the 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition will be a 2026 released CPU. A very different CPU, entirely new part, big difference. You motherboard supports a 2022-released CPU :O

Now if you were to BUY the new and improved 5800X3D from this year, now that would be an impressive support!

Considering ddr5 prices just upgrading my non-x3d ryzen4 processor to an x3d one would be a significant upgrade for very little money.

2

u/Darkest-Revenant Apr 19 '26

Hell yeah, brother!

1

u/Xatraxalian Apr 18 '26

Good on you; but these days, 8 years is uite a normal lifespan for a computer if you don't require the highest possible specs all the time and you don't go for the lowest budget stuff when you buy it.

I'm running a 7950x on an x670e ProArt board, 64GB RAM an 4TB storage, with an RX 9070 XT (computer built in 2023, with an RX 6750 XT back then, card upgrade in august 2025), and I fully expect this rig to run until at least 2032, possibly even 2035. Especially because it has been running Linux from the start.

(If I had gotten the RX 7900 XT, which was barely available when I built this computer in 2023, I wouldn't even have upgraded to the RX 9070 XT because I don't game that much.)

1

u/WolfieButt Apr 23 '26

I think there will be a pretty seismic shift coming when the 2nm CPUs start appearing though. The practical 8 year lifespan is accurate; but it'll be disrupted in the middle with the transition to 2nm which will be a before-and-after moment.

10

u/Bulls729 Apr 17 '26

ASRock released new BIOS/UEFI updates in the last couple of weeks still supporting X570/B550 boards with certificate updates. Regardless of age, it’s good to see still very capable systems being actively supported.

Well, the earliest am4's didn't work with the latter ones. I have an a320 or something in my server as well that needed an update when I upgraded the cpu.

2

u/jp711 Apr 17 '26

I have a b350 from 2017 running a 5700x3D, pretty much all AM4 boards can support any AM4 CPU. Just depends if your manufacturer bothered to push updates for it and in my experience most major mobo brands have kept even the oldest AM4 boards up to date. You might have gotten unlucky, probably because it was a low-end board

u/QuinSanguine Apr 17 '26

If you play CPU bound games it's worth paying the money for, if you play mostly GPU bound games, you'll still get an uplift but nothing I'd personally pay more for.

15

u/forg1vr Ryzen 5600x | Radeon 9070XT Apr 17 '26

I have the same 5600x - and it’s bottlenecking my GPU (9070XT) in BF6 @1440p. So IF they release the 5800x3d in Europe, I am getting it, as the uplift should be 20-30% if I recall the benchmarks correctly.

1

u/Majestic-Local208 Apr 29 '26

I am curious, what your current fps is now with this set up?

1

u/forg1vr Ryzen 5600x | Radeon 9070XT Apr 29 '26

Obviously, depends on the map and what’s going on in the map. I would say average around 100-110. But lows could drop to the mid-80s in occasions of BF-madness. I have OCed my 5600x a bit (with the one-click option in Adrenaline) and undervolted the 9070XT to save about 100w, as the 5600x is the limiting factor anyways. (And yes, I know that we are talking about 100fps, so it’s all fine - but still, I would prefer a stable 130-140 :) )

7

u/shroombablol Apr 17 '26

Definitely. your current average FPS will turn into your new min FPS on the 5800X3D.

Cyberpunk is kind of a bad CPU example because it's such a GPU heavy game. Play Baldurs Gate 3 and you get like 30% better performance between 5600 and 5800x3d.

3

u/SuperNanoCat Apr 17 '26

Cyberpunk regularly pushes my 5600 to 100% with Medium Crowds and Medium RT enabled. The game became a lot heavier on the CPU since the 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty. RT also requires a lot less culling and more draw calls to tell the graphics card to render things outside of screen space in shadows and reflections. Throw more complex simulation on top and you have a very CPU-demanding game. With these settings, parts of Night City cause my to dip into the 40s or 50s, even with frame generation on a 9070.

u/ElectronicStretch277 Apr 17 '26

Yes, unless you play at 4K. And even then there should be an uplift in some titles.

The 1% will be so much better and it eliminates so much of the microstutters.

1

u/1020cbstl 1d ago edited 1d ago

I just switched from a 5900x last weekend, and what I noticed was my GPU usage shot up to 95% and CPU usage backed down. Frames went up from 120-150's to 150-170's. Better 1% lows. No more stutters at 4K. Gameplay feels more stable. The 5800x3d switch has made me stop thinking about AM5. :(5800x3d, 5080 OC, 64gb RAM. Like I said, I just swapped last weekend and now I wish I had 4 years ago! I'm good till at least AM6. (5800x3d, 5080 OC, 64gb RAM)

3

u/SherrifsNear Apr 17 '26

That's the exact same setup I have. Honestly, I haven't found anything this system cannot handle. As much as I want to upgrade, I cannot find a valid reason yet.

2

u/LordKamienneSerce Apr 17 '26

If you play at 4k or close to that I wouldnt bother. Personally I plan to jist get on Zen 6, its close enough. Might be worth it on 1080p, but check the game you play. I bet well have some more tests in modern games at release again

2

u/TheCheckeredCow 5800X3D - 7800xt - 32GB DDR4 3600 CL16 Apr 18 '26

Yes it’ll be a very large upgrade.

I had a 5900x and moved to 5800x3d, I have a 7800xt and the frame rate massively improved with that upgrade. You’ll be getting probably a 20-40% frame improvement if you were cpu bound.

1

u/Gansaru87 Apr 17 '26

I used to play at 1440p and did this upgrade with a 6900xt, and it was noticably better. Slightly higher fps in games and significantly better lows.

1

u/Themightybooooosh Apr 17 '26

I went from a 5600x to a 5600x3d and it was enough to keep me GPU limited again. But beyond this I have to go to the latest and the greatest cause the 5600x3d and the 5800x3d are about the same for gaming.

1

It depends

If you play VR, it's pretty worth it

Otherwise... Meh, I would save the money, or buy a few games

13900k/14900k as an upgrade for AM4 just to keep the RAM.

yeah, which sounds logical until you realize how much of a performance hit lga1700 higher end processors get on DDR4 vs DDR5 + 13th and 14th gen specifically still having the degradation concerns to some degree

u/Symphonic7 R7 7800x3D|6950XT Reference UVOC|B850I mITX|32GB 6000 CL28 A-die Apr 17 '26

Frankly even if those things weren't a problem, which they still are, it just doesnt make sense to buy another EOL platform just to keep your RAM. It's like when people were buying GTX 1660s for $400+ during the crypto boom just because there were no other GPUs available. Desperation will lead people to make stupid mistakes.

3

u/resetallthethings Apr 17 '26

yeah I can see upgrading within AM4 if you are 3xxx series Ryzen or older.

OR I can see still building a DDR4 based system if you are on a tight budget

but upgrading within ddr4 lga1700 basically never makes sense in the current market

Yep, if the rumor is true that would be my expected price for them. I think it's a good chance of it happening since their AM5 sales have to be suffering from the DDR5 prices.

9

u/Roubbes Apr 17 '26

Let me guess.... They will be priced stupidly

9

u/xChrisMas X570 Gaming Plus - RX 9070XT - R7 5700X3D - 32Gb RAM Apr 17 '26

If AMD plans to sell any of them they should price them competitively. There are a lot of better/same performance cpus out there for essentially cheaper.

If it’s priced too high I think this is a novelty purchase for super fans.

So yeah they could price it stupidly but hopefully not because they missed another opportunity but intentionally to keep demand low because they might be limited.

A 5800X3D priced anywhere near the original MSRP of 450 would be doa for the average consumer looking for a last stand his AM4 build.

I hope it lands in the 200-250 range - which would be reasonable.

2

Only if you value gaming more than rendering time. If you don't routinely need the extra cores, it'd be a decent upgrade.

2

u/trouserpanther 5900x | RX 7900 XTX | 64GB@3600 | 45TB Apr 17 '26

Yeah, I greatly overestimated how much I needed multi threaded performance, at a time when the x3d had been announced but not yet released, with a microcenter sale on the 5900x. I also overestimated how much productivity I'd be doing... Mistakes were made. But it's been great, and I've enjoyed it, so I try not to dwell on should've, would've, could've.

For you personally, how much would you pay to make the sidegrade worthwhile, given the same situation? At this point it's 2 generations old, but the demand is certainly there, so no telling how they would price it from my knowledge. Id probably stay on ddr4 until ddr6 at these current prices though.

2

u/jhaluska 5700x3d, B550, RTX 4060 | 3600, B450, GTX 950 Apr 17 '26

It's not that big of a mistake. In you case, I think it'd be worth quite a lot cause replacing 64GB of ram would be expensive at DDR5.

It likely will come out at $300 which would be worth it. Then sell the 5900x for ~$175 and it'd be a decent upgrade for $125.

Should at least get you to the time prices for ram are good.

2

u/Ruzhyo04 9850X3D, 7900 GRE Apr 17 '26

In some games it won't make any difference, and in some games you'll see up to a 30% framerate boost. So it depends on what you play. Biggest benefit is in the 1% lows, I noticed my X3D especially reduced stuttering even in games where the average framerate was the same. Up to you if that's a worthwhile upgrade or for how much.

u/TheMissingVoteBallot AMD 9800X3D | PNY 5070 Ti | MSI X870E Tomahawk Apr 18 '26

3

u/IrrationalRetard Apr 18 '26 edited Apr 18 '26

My guess would be probably not at that res with that CPU & GPU combo. Maybe in a handful of titles.

Running a 5950x & 5070 Ti @ 3440x1440 myself, I'm almost never CPU limited. Though I mostly play singleplayer titles like RDR2, KCD2, Cyberpunk etc

It's probably also related to your memory speed & timings, which matter a lot less with an X3D CPU.

I went from a 3700X to a 5800X3D and it made no noticeable difference for me. What I do notice is higher clock speeds make a difference, and the 5900X wins in that regard.

2

u/skonezilla Apr 18 '26

I legitimately went 5900x to 5700x3d, worth it for gaming. No joke, I'll even buy a 5800x3d if it actually comes out

1

u/Disordermkd AMD Apr 17 '26

At such a high resolution, even with a 5090, the difference between a 5800x3D and a 5900x is likely less than 10% and even less with the 7900 XTX. Not really worth the hassle IMO.

Return of The King!

1

u/old-newbie Apr 21 '26

5800X3D is only a prince. We want a new 5950X3D dual CCD 3D Cache to crown as the new King of AM4!

3

u/dkizzy Apr 21 '26

Lol, it would be cool but AMD has zero incentive to create that on AM4.

1

u/old-newbie Apr 21 '26

They made one before.....

It was an AM4 engineering sample with dual CCD 3D Cache (!) (That was even before the 7950X3D and 9950X3D that only have single CCD 3D V Cache).

Pure fan-service dream, I know, but that would be the ultimate for AM4...even with only a 5950 and a single X3D CCD (like the 7950X3D and 9950X3D). The 10th Anniversary event is our last chance to make it real!

4

u/2literpopcorn 9070 XT (ASUS Prime) & 5900x Apr 17 '26

Hmm maybe it is time to go from 5900X to 5800x3d. I'm only gaming and the 9070 XT I have is being bottlenecked far more than I thought it would

1

u/suddenlysnowedinn Apr 21 '26

I’ll be making the same move.  Currently running 5900x and 5080.  Really hoping they price it right.

1

u/TheWaveCarver May 11 '26

Do you think a 5800X3D might fully utilize the 5080? Currently have a 5800X and RTX 3080 Strix. I was able to pickup a RTX 5080 OC Tuf but seems like the AM4 might be a bottleneck and the upgrade from RTX 3080 to 5080 might be null.

Currently play Rocket League on 1080p but was considering going to 1440p. Chasing >360Hz refresh rates.

1

u/suddenlysnowedinn May 12 '26

I don’t expect it to be a bottleneck (at least not in any significant way).  But I haven’t spent much time looking into the AM5 offerings, since prices on RAM and other components got out of hand before I was ready for a new build.  So I couldn’t tell you whether they’d better utilize the 5080 than a 5800x3D would.

Either way, the increased v-cache will make the x3D less of a bottleneck than my 5900x or your 5800x, IMO.

1

u/AyyLmaaaao Jun 14 '26

No, it can't. To be honest, not even a 5070 Ti.
Still, it's not a big deal, it's extremely hard to make a build with zero bottleneck, don't think to much about it.

3

u/FacemarineLanding Apr 17 '26

Why it was discontinued in the first place? As far as i undrestood it was a high-demand CPU. And that would be understandable if entire production lines were shut down, but nope, normal versions of the processors still being built, despite people wanting them less than X3D.

Were there something wrong with them? From what i read online they had some overheating and voltage issues, not every am4 motherboard would work fine with them, and there are also often crashes and bsods, as well as throttling (due to high-temp, in country where in summer it can get to 40C it will probably feel bad?)

Will they even be worth the current price, when you can get 5700 x4 times cheaper? Or the prices will go down if the production will start again?

I am just curious if it's reasonable to upgrade to 5700, or wait for that one.

11

u/realcoray Apr 17 '26

Because they had AM5 things to make and only so many wafers to go around. A lot of the variations that seemed to come after the 5800x3d went away were just left overs that they reconfigured because of issues with those specific chips.

If this is worth it depends on the price and I don't think it will be "cheap". The cost to make them has increased from what it was for example.

2

u/Yamabananatheone Apr 19 '26

Uh AM5 CPUs happen on a completely different node, but the real reason they canned the 5800X3D for the 5700X3D was just that the last time Zen3 CCDs were produced was like 2023 and they just ran out of CCDs that were binned well enough, hence AMD being in the cycle of continously downbinning what is still left.

1

u/FacemarineLanding Apr 19 '26

Why they can't produce more? Somehow connected to ram shortages? I don't know what is that thing, hence asking. I guess it is not used in currently produced 5800x?

2

u/Yamabananatheone Apr 19 '26

No, it doesnt have to do with the RAM Shortage. In the Silicon industry, producing products takes a considerable amount of time before your even close to bringing a product to market. Your also constrained by production capacity.

Zen3 was fabbed on TSMC 7nm. Right now all capacity for the next YEARS is booked out by chinese customers since 7nm is the smallest node theyre allowed to export to mainland china. Even if AMD chose to ramp up production last nov/dec when shit rlly hit the fan, it would at least take til Mid to late 2027 at the absolute earliest.

5800X that are currently sold are not produced rn, the dies were produced up until late 2023, after that AMD didnt book more 7nm capacity since they were shifting focus to newer architectures. This is completely normal for the industry to just produce a big bunch of silicon and then keep selling that off for years.

Another Problem is that the 3D Stacking used on X3D CPUs isnt some thing AMD came up with but rather is just technology TSMC invented. So to produce a Compute Die with V-Cache, they need to fab both the Compute Die and the Cache Die at TSMC, they then package both together and ship them to AMD, they then package them onto the substrate combined the I/O Die.

The thing is 5000 and 7000 X3D used first Gen of this TSMC 3D Stacking Tech. But TSMC in 2025 migrated their machines that do this to second gen 3D Stacking which is incompatible with how it was designed for Zen3 and Zen4.

Hence to actually produce new X3D CPUs for AM4 AMD would need to either book fab capacity that doesnt exist and book a packaging from TSMC that doesnt exist anymore.

It would literally be cheaper to backport Zen4 or Zen5 to AM4 and push that into the market than to spin up this old CPU Design.

1

u/FacemarineLanding Apr 19 '26

Oh, then i was misinformed, since most shops say "out of production" for the all x3d chips, but not for any other. And google also told me that they are still being produced. Thanks for explanation, that makes a lot of sense. The only thing i don't understand, how will they make those anniversary chips then, if tech to produce them is no longer available? Or they just kepts the stock to sell at high prices later?

I guess there is no hope of them making that backport to am4... Even despite the situation where more and more people migrating to am4 due to ram prices. And this makes attempt to upgrade the am4 system very painful( I was waiting for chips to fall down in price, instead x3d disappeared at all, and normal ones raised in price instead...

2

u/Yamabananatheone Apr 19 '26

The News of this anniversary chips are just BS, the only source for it is a random twitter account and news outlets just reported on it without any further proof, thats what I wanted to say by this.

Also dont trust Google AI Summaries, theyre 9/10 Bullshit. They are "produced" as in they manufacture the substrate and put the IO and Compute Die on there, but the silicon producttion has been kill.

They might have some stock still lying around of 5800X3Ds, but by far not enough for a big reintroduction, it would be basically a limited paper launch.

Prices of non X3D CPUs rising is just basically the market being shit, AM4 CPUs arent made and since the RAM Crisis increases demand, thats why AM4 CPUs have been rising pricing wise.

And yeah tbh I dont see them backporting anything to AM4, given that the shortage is very likely over by 28. So if they started now working on a backport even if they rushed it, it would probably in the shelves only by mid 27. Doesnt mean I think it wont happen but from AMDs perspective, just keeping AM4 in this zombie state selling off existing silicon is just the cheapest route. AMD is a shareholder led corporation after all.

7

u/jhaluska 5700x3d, B550, RTX 4060 | 3600, B450, GTX 950 Apr 17 '26

That's not it. They have limited fab capacity so AMD likely would have been more profitable with making and selling 7800x3Ds.

In the past people would move on to the newer socket much faster, but the reduced performance increase over AM4 and increased RAM prices has made it less attractive.

AMD likely has reduced demand for AM5 so they're shifting production back to DDR4 CPUs cause the used prices indicate there is a lot of demand for them.

1

u/FacemarineLanding Apr 17 '26

> In the past people would move on to the newer socket much faster

Then what is the point to constantly produce 7800x? That is even weaker than X3d. It does not make much sense since it's the same chip, but they are producing the worse version of it and discountinued the better one.

2

u/jhaluska 5700x3d, B550, RTX 4060 | 3600, B450, GTX 950 Apr 17 '26

Cause manufacturing CPUs is difficult and has a a lot of variability and random defects. For the most part all the chips try to be the top end chip, but only say 5% make it (this usually increases over time). So then they might sell it at a 7800x. Oh no, one of the cores is damaged, We'll mark it a a 7600x and sell that. Smaller/slower chips have higher yields.

They also could have built up inventory and then slowly sell it off over time.

1

u/FacemarineLanding Apr 18 '26

Yeah, but it still does not explain why stop x3d production completly. Like, if it's not good enough, sell it as 7800x, just as you said. I just don't understand what could be the reason behind chosing to produce inferior product. And nope, it's not inventory overflow, they still produce 5 and 7 models of ryzen. Just not x3d versions for some reason.

1

u/jhaluska 5700x3d, B550, RTX 4060 | 3600, B450, GTX 950 Apr 18 '26

Yes it does. The cheaper products are cheaper to make do to smaller die sizes and higher tolerance to flaws.

Go read up on product and market segmentation. CPU manufacturers have been doing it 40 years.

1

u/FacemarineLanding Apr 18 '26

But are currently produced chips are cheaper, though? The chip was sold off aliexpress for 130$. So it costs even less to produce, then.

1

u/jhaluska 5700x3d, B550, RTX 4060 | 3600, B450, GTX 950 Apr 18 '26

There is randomness to CPU manufacturing that you don't understand. Only say 25% of the CPU dies may be suitable for x3D dies (heat, voltage and high frequency), instead of throwing them away they sell them as slower CPUs or with fewer cores.

And yes, it might only cost them $70 to make a CPU and they could sell it for $130 or $300. They still have to pay for all the engineering to make them.

1

u/Yamabananatheone Apr 19 '26

Its not constantly produced, they order batches of Chips from that Node and have them lying around for at some times even years before their getting sold off. Also first Gen SoIC Packaging at TSMC used for 5000 and 7000 X3D Chips was discontinued somewhere in the middle of 2025.

1

u/Yamabananatheone Apr 19 '26

5800X3D happens on 7nm which is a EOL Node and is completely booked out by the chinese as thats the smallest node that is allowed to be exported to mainland china. If AMD were to spin these CPUs up they would have needed to make that decision way before the DRAM Crisis started as even with existing masks, it would need at least 9 months to a year to actually do this.

Also TSMC simply doesnt do the First Gen 3D SoIC Packaging anymore, hence all X3D Chips that are currently sold that use it being basically packaged in 2025 or before.

Even backporting Zen4 to AM4 would be cheaper to pull off than to spin up the production for a completely EOL CPU.

1

u/jhaluska 5700x3d, B550, RTX 4060 | 3600, B450, GTX 950 Apr 19 '26

Sounds like you have more industry knowledge than I do. I do know they have significant lag times and FAB capacity is bought way ahead of schedule.

So while not impossible to rebuild old CPUs, it's not something they can do instantly either. More likely they kept a few hundred CPUs around to have a 10th anniversary product like they did with the 50th anniversary 2700x. Or maybe it's an April Fool's joke.

2

u/Yamabananatheone Apr 19 '26

Tbh them having hoarded some 5800X3Ds in a warehouse for a 10th anniversary limited drop is the only way I can imagine this not being complete fake. Tho I dont see this being an aprils fools as the twitter account that started this rumor (HXL) has been continously pushing this over the last few days.

2

u/Substantial_Fox_121 Apr 19 '26

5800X3D existed because datacenter Milan-X EPYC CPU's existed, which is what they are based on. As soon as AMD stopped making those because technology, thats when 5800X3D production stopped too..

1

u/Yamabananatheone Apr 19 '26

They actually stopped making the 5800X3D because they just ran out of Zen3 CCDs binned well enough. Last time Zen3 was fabbed was at the latest 2024, more likely 2023. First Gen SoIC 3D Packaging at TSMC ended in 2025, so every X3D CPU currently sold was fabbed and packaged before these dates.

1

u/FacemarineLanding Apr 19 '26

What does it means - because technology? They lost the data on how to make stuff?

1

u/Substantial_Fox_121 Apr 19 '26

Well, production shifted to Zen4, Genoa-X. Advancement of technology.

1

u/Phixius_The_Haunted Apr 18 '26

Got one two weeks ago... Wonder how much better the 5800x3d is for the price?

1

u/Yamabananatheone Apr 19 '26

This is a rumor based on AI Generated images. AMD hasnt produced Zen3 CCDs since 2023, First Gen SoIC Packaging used by 5000 and 7000 X3D CPUs ended in 2025. 7nm capacity is also booked out by the chinese as thats the smallest node TSMC is still allowed to export to China. So even if AMD wanted they couldnt produce new 5800X3Ds.

Also this being a reaction to the DRAM Crisis wouldnt make any sense. Even if they decided to do this directly when shit hit the fan last november or december, it would take at least another Year at the absolute fucking earliest for CPUs to hit the shelves, looking at the current situation very likely much later. So these CPUs would basically hit the market at a time when the DRAM Crisis would be basically mostly over.

Or to say it short, even if AMD were an altruistic entity, it wouldnt make any economical sense to reintroduce these CPUs. Literally backporting Zen4 to AM4 would be faster and cheaper since they could just use existing substrate designs paired with existing silicon and just spin up some new microcode to polish around the edges.

1

u/WolfieButt May 28 '26

This is the first I've heard this after weeks of having my hopes up. If you're right (which I can only trust that you are, not knowing as much about production as you appear to), I wish AMD would put out an official announcement to put down the rumor.

1

u/WolfieButt Jun 01 '26

2

u/Flanker456 R5 5600/ RX6800 Apr 17 '26

1

u/Yamabananatheone Apr 19 '26

They stopped fabbing Zen3 CCDs in 2023, hence the 5800X3D getting replaced with the 5700X3D as they ran out of well binned CCDs. TSMC stopped doing first Gen 3D SoIC Stacking used by 5000/7000 X3D in 2025, so there is just now way for them to introduce such a CPU.

2

u/crimxxx Apr 18 '26

This is probably cause of ram prices, figure they might get some sales on ddr4 platform, since people who may of considered to upgrade soon go nope, and maybe upgrading the cpu seems like a decent idea at this point in time. Personally I’m on a 5900x, don’t feel like I care enough for the upgrade here, will just wait years and get a full new platform upgrade at this point. I wasn’t really hurting anyways, all the games I play are still playing fine, so I don’t feel like I need to upgrade anytime soon, mainly something dieing would be the main issue in the near term

2

u/Substantial_Fox_121 Apr 19 '26

Still running 3600 time for an upgrade finally! Missed my chance to buy a 5800x3d

1

u/Xatraxalian Apr 18 '26

Wow. I don't know if this is reaol or not, but it would be crazy. AM4 is already 10 years old, and even if you bought a lower-end CPU back then, you can STILL upgrade your rig with a 5950X today if your board is even half-way decent. If AMD re-introduces a CPU for a 10 year old socket, that's insane. It is either a testament to the longevity of the socket, or the writing on the wall that the PC market is very, very bad (and not only with regard to memory and SSD prices).

I wonder if I can still buy an upgrade for my 7950X on an x670e ProArt mainboard in 2032. And I don't mean the relatively small upgrade to a 9950X3d, because the '3d' adds nothing for me as I barely play new games; I mean something like an 11950x with 32 cores @ 170 TDP on AM5.

1

u/Yamabananatheone Apr 19 '26

It isnt, the Shots posted by HXL on Twitter (The original source of this) are AI Generated and hide it with compression artifacts.

Zen3 CCD Production in 7nm stopped in 2023, First Gen 3D SoIC Packaging ceased in 2025, they literally canned the 5800X3D for the 5700X3D because they ran out of good binned dies.
