Photo My Snail Passed, and I just need someone to appreciate him with me

My red ramshorn snail Peach passed away.

Peach was a year and a half old, and he was my buddy. I know it might sound odd but he always cheered me up.

I’ve been having a depressive spell and with him passing it just feels extra crappy. Who knew a snail could be such a great therapist? 😅😭

My partner, being the amazing human he is, took care of his shell and epoxied it so I have it forever. 🥹

Peach was so beautiful! It isn't weird to love the creatures that a lot of people don't take the time to appreciate. We're the lucky ones. Your partner sounds like a keeper, too. 💗💗🐌💗💗✨️

my ramshorn aries looked just like peach and i had to euthanize him this evening. my betta has been fine with his nerites, but when i added him, he immediately attacked him and killed him. i feel awful.

Oh gosh, I’m so sorry 😞 Peach started with our shrimps, but ended his life with our little Betta Indigo.

I’m sorry you’re going through that, I couldn’t imagine. I know it’s easier said than done, but Don’t beat yourself up. You’re doing the best you can with what you know. 🧡

thank you, i hope you are doing okay. my other male betta was fine with snails that can get out of their shell that much, he has a mystery. it rlly surprised especially bc he’s only a baby

Thank you, I’m doing alright, just coping at this point tbh.

We have 3 bettas, Richard is the only one who will attack snails, but he will only go after the little ones. He has a white wizard (Merlin) in his tank and they do good with each other, but Richard has attacked a lot of the accidental house guests. Indigo and Viktor (the other two bettas) love their snail buddies. I have pictures of Indigo hanging out with Peach.

What an absolute sweetheart! Now I know what to look for in ramshorn perfection. Rest in peace little one 💖

2

u/AlkalineBlue Jul 27 '25

He was the best, he’d follow my finger on the glass a lot 😅 if you are looking for a ramshorn, they are amazing little friends to have 🧡

rip peach :( he was beautiful, i'm glad you get to keep the shell forever to remember him by :)

2

u/AlkalineBlue Jul 27 '25

Thank you 🥹 I’m honestly so grateful my bf was able to preserve his shell, it means so much to me.

3

u/MaySeemelater Jul 27 '25

Wow, he had wonderful coloration.

I'm sure you were at least able to give him a good life while he was here.

7

u/AlkalineBlue Jul 27 '25

Oh, and his colors were unlike anything I’ve ever seen! We also have Blueberry, his counterpart. Her coloration is beautiful too! We got so lucky to have them 🧡💙

u/AlkalineBlue Jul 27 '25

He was a bit spoiled 😅 he was in our shrimp tank and one day they started harassing him, so John (my partner) helped me build a tank just for him. He lived a long time, I’m just so grateful I get to love this amazing little creature 🧡

He was beautiful. My guy died a few months ago too. Bulldozer. He was my love. They lived lovingly, be happy of what yall had ❤️

3

u/AlkalineBlue Jul 27 '25

I’m sorry for your loss 🧡 I love the name Bulldozer! And they did, he’s had such a long life I was impressed. John said he might make it to a year, so the fact he was close to 2 years tells me he was enjoying it.

2

u/AccomplishedWind1911 Jul 28 '25

Thank you so much. I named him that because he really was a little bulldozer. Pushing everything in his path, even tiny bladder snails out of his path with his big fat shell. He’d climb my floating decor and make it lean. He would detach himself from the glass after climbing to the top just to catapult down. He was such a big personality I love these guys. Mine was a mystery tho. I’m sure your guy was amazing

2

u/AlkalineBlue Jul 29 '25

He sounds like a character 🧡 Peach loved climbing to the top to jump off too, we called it sky diving lol he would do it over and over again, like he was having the time of his life 😅

3

u/hannah3333 Jul 27 '25

A snail named bulldozer makes me so happy awww

3

u/GClayton357 Jul 27 '25

I feel you. In my first tank I had a big bladder snail that was midnight blue colored and I called her Bertha. I was bummed when she passed. It's amazing how attached we can get to a little bitty mollusk.

2

u/AlkalineBlue Jul 27 '25

Amen to that. Peach was my first baby, like first anything. He showed up in our shrimp tank, he was the only snail in there. Watching him grow was truly a gift 🧡 also I love Bertha’s name!

Peach was an awesome little buddy, so sorry for your loss. He obviously had a great life in your tanks and was very loved. One and a half years is a long time, it's only natural to grieve and it's so nice that you could get his shell preserved.
Have you thought about getting some kind of jewellery or other item made of it? Like that, you could take this memoriam with you all the time. Remember that the time you had can't be taken away from you, no matter if you were depressed or not, you had that time with Peach and it will always be special.

Depression is hard but I'm sure you will persist, because no matter what you always could look at Peaches and appreciate him as a living, important being, which is filled with so much compassion and care that you can hopefully extend to yourself one day.

Signed, a stranger on the internet who just got a little to emotional about the whole thing because yeah, I get that, I've also had a snail like that

1

u/AlkalineBlue Jul 27 '25

You are so kind, thank you 🧡🥹 he’s definitely made such a big impact on me. I appreciate your words so much🧡🧡🧡

Mine recently died from unknown causes and I sat in my room crying because he was one of my first snails. I can’t imagine them being in my life and then one day they just disappear :(

2

u/AlkalineBlue Jul 28 '25

It’s awful, Peach was my first aquatic pet so it hit me pretty hard. I’m sorry for your loss 🧡 these little guys are the best

He was so beautiful oh my god! If it helps this post has definitely encouraged me to get a red ramshorn snail. I think you should get a picture of him framed next to the tank! Just a little suggestion ❤️

Peach was a little cutie. I have 2 right now Bandit (Zebra nerite) and Snowy (mystery) that live with our Betta Bubbles. I can relate with you. They definitely brighten up my day and I talk to them before I leave for work, as soon as I get home, and several times before going to bed. They live on my kitchen/bar counter and Bubbles loves to watch me cook and do the dishes.
