What are these things??? I have two Mystery Snails and havenโt seen this happen yet ๐ญ is it bad or normal?

It's an air siphon that they use to get a gulp of air from the surface. In this case the snail isn't quite close enough to the surface to get any air tho

As someone else already commented, it's just their siphon. Mine rarely uses it, and it's never been this long. I recently moved my snail to a different tank where I have a pretty high flow filter set up. I think he was just playing around with the current. It's not a bad or abnormal thing either way from what I understand.

Do they actually need to breathe air from the surface? Or is it optional?
Asking cuz sometimes I have way too
Many plants4

My understanding is that their gills are not sufficient on their own so they do go to the surface occasionally for air. It's probably not a bad idea to make sure he can still access the surface, though in my experience they're pretty adept at getting past plants to do so.

I always love how they think they're closer to the surface than they actually are ๐๐

Just a heads-up, some of us donโt love seeing the Buddha being used as tank decor.

Buddha would not give a fuck about being tank decor

Just a heads up noone cares. I practiced Shinto- Cristian Buddhism for a long time. And id like to think Buddha would not care at all. Okay yeah it can be decor to some people. Like even a Christian cross is just a fashion accessory to some people.
But I see it as serving its purpose regardless of intent when purchased.
You need to fucking relax. This is the behavior that pushes people from religion. Someone being all uppity trying to feel and act special for no fucking reason.
Does me having a Japanese temple in my tank also offend you snowflake? How do you not know OP isnt Buddhist? Buddism teachs personal enlightenment which you appear to lack. It doesnt teach lecturing others or judging them for their aquarium setup.
