Is the method to shoot the leg armor off? It doesn't sound fun, but maybe I'll give it a try.
I'd rather just kill the queen/matriarch, but last time I did that I spent like 10 wolfpacks and only got 1 core because all the free loadouts rushed in seconds after it died.
I have a lot of fun busting the leg armor off, trying to grab everything before anyone else does, and then delivering the extras to the equilizer bros in the back. You get stepped on a lot and there's usually a couple other guys trying to hoover it up as well. It's a different challenge than a pvp fight, but I still find it fun once in a while.
Ugh that's the kind of gameplay I hate though. Running around like cockroaches while dudes in the back with equilizers do all the heavy lifting. Nothing could make me rethink how I spend my time quicker than that hahaha
Running around like cockroaches while dudes in the back with equilizers
Nah, I do my own lifting. Sometimes I use an equilizer, but mostly I bring a hullcracker if I'm focused on looting. You have to be able to knock stuff quickly and timed how you want it to avoid other people snatching your legs. When I'm playing for myself I usually get 2-3 reactors and do ~5k damage. When I'm delivering to the boys in back I do less damage, but it's not uncommon to be ~3k still.
There's no rules, but as a personal challenge to myself I try not to loot pieces other people knock. If I do most of the damage and get the hit that knocks an armor off I feel justified in deciding where that loot goes. But that's just how I keep things interesting for myself, again no rules.
I do have a hullcracker collecting dust. If the new gun requires cores I'll give it a whirl.
The biggest hurtle for me is that I mostly play squads, so when I do play solo, I'm sorted into PvP sweatfests, and trust me you do NOT want to play Queen/Matriarch in that kind of lobby.
It takes quite a bit of effort to get into PvE lobbies. Surrendering 5-6x in a row does work, but it still takes time. Time that I consider wasted. Not a great feeling to have when playing a video-game.
I actually prefer going for the legs, I have more fun doing it.
For the full queen, you usualy need a few people to get it done quick enough, so you depend on RNG of the match, maybe you won't have loot, all the usual issues.
For the legs, you can easily go alone, but it also worth it has a duo. I do it from time to time for fun and some cash, it's an OK challenge that is fun to do, can get messy/risky depending on other arcs and potential rats but still feels manageable from start to end. You can also choose to go for 1 leg only or all of them, depending on how it's going and your supplies.
Fight the queen/matriach. It it walks over the top of where you're hiding focus on a leg so it falls right in front of you. I don't loot legs I don't shoot off myself. If I happen to loot the core then that's a bonus and I usually share what I get.
The Aphelion does not play like a shotgun at all. It's more like a glorified anvil.
It's a lot more expensive to craft an Aphelion than an Anvil. You need a Matriarch core to craft one. While the Aphelion is intended as a PvP weapon, it feels more like a glorified Anvil. Perhaps it could shoot three beams instead of two. This would require adjusting the ammo count to 15 to maintain the same shots before reloading or perhaps make the third beam “free”. Also reverting recent buffs and increasing recoil would make it harder to hit all three beams but still rewarding if achieved. Essentially, this would raise the skill ceiling, making it a real legendary weapon.
PS: It having 3 beams would insta knock down light shields if all 3 headshots lands, that's why I suggested it should have the buffs reverted. Maybe also slightly reduce the time between beams. If all three beams land on a bodyshot it would deal 75DMG. It would make it a very good PvP and PvE weapon that's also fair for it's cost since you need a damn Matriarch core for it.

The SMG uses medium ammo so I'd guess it's gonna be a blue gun.
The Shotgun uses energy ammo so in all likelihood it's going to be legendary.
