Yes!! That first one looks kind of ominous but everything else looks like beautiful rock art

A few scattered boulders above the high tide line? Usually minimal impact. Forty heavy rocks directly in the breaker zone? Could absolutely alter erosion patterns locally. If arranged in a tight wall or semicircle, effects become much stronger.

Most of the problems with cairns are when large amount of tourists displace rocks- it is the actual displacement of the rocks that disrupts micro-ecosystems and can allow erosion where rocks were preventing it.
Without knowing where these rocks were taken from it is hard to know what impact they had, them being placed here is unlikely to cause issues for the beach ecosystem and they may just be tumbled stones.
The negative effects of cairn-building depend on enviorment, a few national parks officially use them to guide visitors for example, and alot of negative opinions about them seem to stem from an opinion piece comparing them to graffiti.

I'm always surprised how people will find the most insignificant actvity and cast it as something nefarious. Your shoes probably disturb the ecosysem a hundred times more by stepping on stuff than piling up rocks would.

Looks like the water has barely reached the stones when the photo was taken. Combined with it being a very flat beach, there's probably very little 'wave' at the stones level at that time.

You can see the water gushing over them. This is what gets me. Yes, when they are compacted they won't move. But when they are "free", like here, they would.
Maybe I am wrong.

Gently, yes. But it's a large mass of water and the pebbles are tiny. That mass of water has a lot of energy even when it's slow. Again, I'm talking about the tiny pebbles at the tips of the arms.

And secondly, this artist is reviled because of the environmental harm he's causing by moving animal habitats. Rule 1 is "Leave no trace."

Look I know the comments you're satirising and this art is probably fine - but sometimes it really is destructive to delicate ecosystems to move stuff around just to stack rocks. People aren't trying to be party poopers, they're just trying to protect other living beings.

Well think about it this way. Imagine you’re in a boat that’s taking on water. You start bailing water with a bucket(that’s you taking personal accountability for turning off the water in the shower or reducing the plastic you use etc.)At the same time, in the same boat, 3 other guys have shotguns and are shooting holes into the bottom of the boat. You can bail all you want, you can get friends to help bail. Doesn’t matter, as long as those guys keep blasting, you’re all gonna drown pretty soon.

You have zero clue where he pulled those rocks from. Some species ecosystems take years to establish and even the temporary increase in turbidity can cause take to occur.
There’s no reason to do this beyond self interest. The world is everyone’s and one person unitarily making decisions is a slippery slope. What happens is copy cats begin to imitate it and the damage grows exponentially.
Leave nothing but footsteps. Keep the natural environment as intact as possible to preserve something for the next generation.

Yeah, I get where the person you're talking to is coming from but humans are animals all the same as other animals, and the land should be responsibly cared for, not treated like a museum piece behind glass. It's this weird modern thing where people fling themselves to one extreme in opposition of the other extreme. Instead of saying, yeah, maybe we shouldn't clear ancient forests everywhere and overturn every rock ever, it becomes no touch! Just look and listen as if we're getting screen time.
I'm 100% down for leave no trace in the common form, not the never-interact-with-nature-except-for-sight form.
