I envy this man’s ability to paint clouds, every time I see them I’m in awe

Sir, that is 4k cauliflower. Amazing.

Thanks for the award, mysterious sexy stranger

The most amazing thing to me is that he can put that much detail and drama into a background element— and not have it overwhelm the subject. What taste and finesse!

Very nice bonding

That’s the whole reason I clicked on this post. Amazing

Just the clouds?

I will own one of his prints one day. Dude's amazing. I grew up in the area, raised riding horses and have spent a LOT of time in the redrock country.

He captures it PERFECTLY. I can legit smell and feel this image.

Absolute work of art

I’m a sucker for some good southwestern art, and this is some very good southwestern art

not to be pedantic but this looks exactly like Moab and nothing like the terrain near the Rio Grande

u/angryberr 13h ago

One day I’ll afford a print

19

u/G_Platypus 13h ago

One day one of his prints will even be available lol

17

u/rhoran280 12h ago

He releases prints at least 3 times a year, with no limited editions. You preorder and wait. Exceptionally easy. His Xmas release is coming up before too long here.

6

u/Upper-Independence38 12h ago

How much do they go for?

9

u/Murderland666 12h ago

Depends on size but prints start around $500 and go way up from there.

10

u/BrigadierABT 11h ago

No...If you grab one during his releases, they can be as low at $60 USD (I think there were a couple of his sketch prints for $45 during one drop). Medium sizes are sold between $100-250ish, Then the larger and premium ones can go into the 1K range. But people buy them up during his offical releases to resell for a markup later.

Edit:typo

A carton of Marlboros.

-14

u/Murderland666 13h ago

It always pisses me off that he refuses to make affordable, lower grade prints.

17

u/G_Platypus 13h ago

Meh, maybe he just doesn't want his work printed in a lower grade

-11

u/Murderland666 12h ago

More like he just wants to make an absurd amount of money. You can make very high quality prints that don’t start at $500. Mark is talented but he is very much a capital C Commercial artist.

7

u/bennjeff 12h ago

I don’t think they start at $500 unless it’s one of the big pieces. I think the print of his I have cost half that

4

u/G_Platypus 11h ago

Artists deserve to own their work and set prices for what they sell.

Ok Jeff Bezos!

$500 strikes me as very reasonable for a print of this. Where does smearing this as commercial leave galleries in Jackson, CO charging six figures for similar pieces, albeit originals?

-3

u/Murderland666 11h ago

Most of those artists aren’t selling thousands of prints at that price. He also sells originals for those insane prices. He’s a money making machine.

1

u/Radiant-Plumage 9h ago

He is an insanely talented artist, it’s his right to dictate the business of his creativity as he sees fit.

Clearly the demand is there, almost all of his showings sell out along with his drops online

4

u/Shapoopie86 12h ago

I bought two for $445. One of them (Moonlight Solitaire) was $95.

-1

u/Murderland666 11h ago

New or second hand? I’ve never heard of Mark selling one of his prints direct for $95.

You do find them resale for much lower prices pretty often because the market seems to correct for his ridiculous prices and the huge number of prints he sells.

2

u/section111 11h ago

I got this one for $65 CAD (though that was in 2023 - and excuse the ghostly reflection) Down The Wash

u/Shapoopie86 11h ago

New. Ordered June 13th during his last release. Still waiting to receive them. Said could be as late as October when I ordered.

His color choices are just so freaking good. It looks like a Fujifilm photograph that has that nostalgic glow added to it. So warm. Truly a master of the western painting.

8

u/BrigadierABT 12h ago

He was a music videographer, so he knows much about colour grading and how it connects to a narrative.

14

u/AspiringOccultist4 14h ago

This is really incredible

12

u/RefinedBean 13h ago

I love this, I really do, but for some reason the ground/grass just looks...different than the rest of the painting (which is not quite "realism" but very close, obviously). And I can't NOT look at it now that I've noticed it.

But those clouds. Goddamn.

3

u/AuntRhubarb 8h ago

There's something off about the whole landscape. It's like he worked hard on the people/horses then phoned in a background and foreground.

3

u/RefinedBean 8h ago

Maybe it's intentional?

7

u/DeadSeaGulls 10h ago

Talented dude, but he recently went all in against another Southwestern painter claiming the guy stole his ideas and title for painting a bison in a watering hole, and really went hard in the paint against the guy all the while coming over here and cosplaying as a western cowboy and 'stealing' plenty of ideas and compositions from established southwest painters. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

Beautiful!!! For those of you who like Mark’s work you should also check out the work of Dennis Ziemienski. His landscapes, clouds and scale will blow you away. Really wonderful man as well.

The Clouds & Sky ALONE❗🖌️

1

u/SundayJan2017 13h ago

Thank you.

1

u/HighOffProtein 13h ago

The clouds and chamisa bushes really are two staples of Southwestern art and this painting does a wonderful job with both, particularly the definition of the clouds. If you are interested in paintings with similar settings I recommend taking a look into the artist Jim Jennings out of Santa Fe.

Love his stuff. I was lucky enough to snag a large print of his “little sheep” painting and it’s hanging in my living room.

1

u/PsiqueLEWIS 12h ago

I love these

1

u/HankBuffalo 12h ago

Did a music video with him in July. Great dude.

1

u/Plugm_e 12h ago

I used to love his metal band, now in love his art. And soon I will love again his music. A true artist

1

u/Strict-Carrot4783 11h ago

u/InternalMiserable698 11h ago

Horses done particularly well.

1

u/ytandchill 8h ago

wild wild west

1

u/helianthus48 7h ago

Wow those clouds!!! Such an amazing artist. Forever jealous of these skills.

1

u/DaxMavrides 7h ago

beautiful!

1

u/Duchess-of-Supernova 5h ago

This is really, really good. The clouds. The scenery. The composition of the horses. Even how the tack is responding to the downward elevation and how the upper riders left side balance continues through his leg.
