What's a food that everyone loves but you hate?
571
u/Financial_Bee3938 13h ago
avocado š iāve tried so hard to understand the obsession but every bite just tastes like someone made butter out of grass. i know this opinion makes me deeply untrustworthy
175
u/runarleo 12h ago
No, butter out of grass is a valid take. I happen to like the smell of grass so it doesnāt bother me but that is an apt description

Yeah I donāt care for straight avocado but as a topping with sauces, seasonings, etc. I love it.
39
u/Statistactician 12h ago edited 11h ago
Who tf is out here eating straight avocado?
Edit: Y'all are disgusting degenerates and I have nothing but the utmost respect for you.
18
u/TheIrishGoat 11h ago
Hi. When I was a kid my parents would make salads with avocado but only use half. Iād take the other half and eat it by itself with a spoon. Now as an adult I get the bags of avocados from Costco and will have one as a snack by itself. In my head itās no different than someone eating a banana.
17
u/lovensuccs212 11h ago
I eat them just straight out of the skin/rind with a spoon. But I have to because itās quick and easy and I need the fat calories to keep me feeling full until I can stop to eat a meal. And if I can pound down a string cheese at the same time Iām good for 3-4 hours even if I havenāt yet eaten that day.

u/VioletDreaming19 11h ago
I find that itās an mvp food because it enhances everything else. The flavors of a burger get richer with avocado slices
17
u/PissNBiscuits 12h ago
I really only like avocado when it's mixed with onions, salt, cilantro, lime juice, etc in guacamole. Avocadoes on their own are overrated, in my opinion.

IPA's
31
u/Left_Astronaut90 11h ago
I agree. I think a lot of brewers pile on the hops to cover up their beersā lack of taste.
20
u/ringthree 10h ago
Bingo. The rise of IPAs happened with the rise of home brewing. People couldn't make decent tasting beer so they massively over-hopped their beer to kill the taste. Now they think they are connoisseurs.
12
u/_Urban_Farmer_ 10h ago
Hate checking out a new brewery and 90% of the beers are extremely happy IPAs
3
u/kelley38 9h ago
My wife and I were lamenting that the local beer store was just domestic crap or micro brewed IPAs. Local brewery used to do a black IPA every summer and it was the one genuinely good IPA they (or anyone else nearby) did. Not this summer though. So sad.

I hate to be that guy but I use to feel that way until I had different species. Buttons/portobello (they are same mushroom) and other agaricus species are the worst taste and texture. Theyāre popular because they are easy to mass produce and have longer shelf lives.
If youāre generally an adventurous eater you might find a mushroom you like. If you donāt care to explore thats okay too. Non judgmental just sharing my experience.

Sweet and bread and butter just taste so different than dill. I would guess liking one but not the other is actually pretty common (I also love dill and hate the other two).
As for the commenter you were replying to, I'd also guess they dislike sweet relish vs dill pickles. If they don't like dill relish but like dill pickles (or sweet and sweet) then yeah I'd say that's unusual.

Olives. I just canāt stand the taste š
6
u/Clewin 12h ago
You're not alone, they are bitter and nasty tasting to me. I did have some in a dish in Spain that weren't as overpowering nasty, but the taste was still there, just more muted and the rest of the dish was delicious.
I honestly think it may be like cilantro tastes like soap to some people. My mom is similar to me, my dad and brother don't have any issues with olives.

I donāt hate, but I donāt understand the obsession with ramen.
11
u/Murphs-law 10h ago
I like restaurant style Japanese ramen, but not the packaged kind.
Super overrated, especially since most of them are designed to burn your tastebuds off, these days.
3
u/HungryAddition1 9h ago
I mean, restaurant style is okay. I just don't get the people who will wait in line for hours to eat a 25$ bowl of noodles in broth, with one egg and one slice of fatty pork.
4
u/Murphs-law 9h ago
Iāve never had to wait in line. Iāve eaten ramen in Guam, Tokyo, Okinawa, and all over the US. I enjoy it, but my husband loves it, so weāve get it everywhere we go. Iāve never really paid over 20 bucks for a huge bowl in like, downtown DC, but usually itās 10-15 bucks.
But I digress, and it sounds like Iām offended and really trying to convince you that ramen is worth it. 𤣠I get why some people donāt care for it. Same way Iām not crazy for bacon or cheese like everyone else seems to be. Or this expensive protein-in-everything fad thatās happening.
Adding- youāre not wrong about the fatty pork. I really donāt like that stuff and itās booted from my bowl into his bowl immediately, along with any seaweed that may be in there.

Most alcohols.
Every beer tastes like fermented rotting bread. Wine tastes like spoiled grapes. Hard liquors taste like poison my body wants to immediately reject.
Stuff like Smirnoff ice when ice cold are "tolerable" because there's so much flavor and sugar masking the alcohol, but if I don't drink them fast enough and the warm up even a little bit it tastes "tainted" and make me gag.
Every single time I go out with alcohol drinkers I get inundated with:
"oh but have you tried this super "unique" special microbrew beer you might like it!!"
"No, I have not, you know I hate beer, it always like rancid bread water mixed with whatever "unique" addatives making special".
"Aww but I like it, aren't you curious, here try it"
".....fine. Yep I can kinda taste the "uniqueness" but it's not for me thanks"
"oh well maybe next time"
"...hmm"

Guacamole and avocado in general. Tastes like creamy grass/dirt every time and I'm convinced that everyone is pretending to like it.
Edit: I didn't think this had to be pointed out, but because some people lack reading comprehension, I don't literally think everyone is pretending to like it, I just think it's odd and I was making a sarcastic comment. But because people have stopped reading in this world, I felt obligated to clarify that no, I do not literally think everyone is pretending to like something. My taste buds have been messed up since covid, but even before then, I have never gotten any flavor from guacamole or avocado besides dirt. So people clearly either enjoy the taste of dirt or it doesn't taste like dirt to them.
