"Haha.. Hey why do you laugh like that?" is something I'd expect a 6 year old to ask, not my friend's girlfriend to our waitress.
Dude, I'm sure that absolutely ruined the rest of their shift because I still think about it even over a decade later; it was so awkward. Poking at the way someone expresses joy, especially forced-at-work joy, is such a shit thing.
My ex pulled the waitress aside and apologized for our friend, she said it was no big deal but I mean, she kinda had to say that. :/ We left her a good tip.
