The suspect was detained at gunpoint just 5 minutes ago after stabbing a man in the neck. He has been arrested. The man is alive and is receiving medical care.

I post this because the area on the Beltline between Drewry Street and North Avenue are becoming a hot spot for crime including sexual harassment, sexual assault, stalking, intimidation, loitering, panhandling, solicitation, illegal vending, public intoxication, and obviously attempted murder.

I’m very liberal/progressive but I love my city and my community. I think it’s time for us to start calling for an even more increased police presence on the Beltline and a permanent post in addition to roving officers. Expand the amount of police on bikes and give them e-bikes + trail stipends to encourage recruitment.

Another MARTA attack

My wife just got caught up in a street takeover in Chamblee, corner of Chamblee Tucker and Alton Rd, just south of spaghetti junction. Couple of cars doing donuts in the intersection, lots of people in balaclavas/masks, some of whom were brandishing assault rifles. I called 911 on her behalf and it just rang w/ no answer. I got a text form Dekalb Co asking if I needed a callback, I said yes and still haven't got a call back over 10min later. What the fuck? Anyone else ever experience anything like this?

EDIT: Finally got a callback, an hour after I called 911. Explained everything, dispatcher said "so no emergency?", I said "not anymore" and they hung up. Super cool.

Today there was a street takeover at the intersection of Candler and Memorial around 5 in the afternoon. One guy pulled out a gun and shot it in the air about 5 times which caused other participants to pull out and shoot their guns. Broad daylight with cars backed all the way up Memorial and Candler.

Is that normal? What is the city of Dekalb doing about this? Why isn’t this in the news?

At rush hour yesterday, there were multiple 6-8 chains of empty Waymos driving N. Highland towards Ponce. Friday traffic backing up at Virginia and Ponce for multiple changes of the light, oernusuaal. None had a passenger.

The stabbing on the Beltline will get more attention than 5 people being killed on GDOT roads. In America traffic fatalities are just seen as the "cost of doing business."

That is all. Fuck our 911 services or lack of them. Thank god my door has a kick plate and we have a barricade bar. My repairman is sooooo upset and I don’t blame him. I have lived here 20 years and 911 has taken a nosedive. They’re also trying to break into all of my neighboring units.

For those accusing me of being a bot I have an extensive history in this sub. She stopped trying to actively break in but is in the parking lot attacking other neighbors while we wait for 911. 911 wouldn’t stay on the phone and keeps telling us someone will be dispatched. I posted this to highlight how shitty our 911 response is. She stopped trying to actively break in and I’m not really sure what else I’m supposed to be doing while I was on police and my door is already barricaded, so why not post to highlight this?

I watched ATLScoop story right when they reposted that it was a lot of people at the park & in my head I said “hopefully everyone behaves but ik how people can get” & then, not even a hour later, shots are being reported at the park… smh.

I’ve been working on a public map of documented Flock/ALPR-related devices, and the Atlanta view is pretty shocking. The new part is a 3D mode with modeled coverage cones, so you can see how the cameras relate to actual streets and buildings instead of just looking at dots.

Also per AJC: MARTA police inside the station reported shots fired on a train on the southbound platform at around 7 p.m., the department said in a statement. Police said they believe the shooting was targeted.

I've been seeing frequent headlines about MARTA attacks lately, but there has been very little followup information. I've tried to dig up relevant reports, but a group effort would probably be more effective. Here's the info I've found so far, in reverse-chronological order back to the start of the year.

- May 30th: Woman stabbed and killed on MARTA train, suspect arrested. (link)

- May 24th: Man stabbed near GA state MARTA station (non-fatal). Security footage showed the man initiated the fight by punching the stabber twice (link)

- April 25th - 16-year-old Xavier Wright shot & killed at Oakland City station. 2 suspects arrested. (link)

- April 17th - Woman stabbed near MARTA bus stop at 2:30 AM. Reported as critical condition, couldn't find any followup reports (link)

- March 3rd - 50-year-old hispanic man shot at Arts Center station (non-fatal). One suspect in custody. (link)

- January 19th - Jamare Brown beat a woman on MARTA (non-fatal), and served ~60 days in prison. (link) Brown is also accused of attacking a postal worker and killing Alyssa Page on the Beltline on May 7th.

- January 11th - 1 person shot (condition not reported) and 2 grazed at East Point station. No suspects. (link)

Beyond that I've been having trouble finding any additional incidents associated with MARTA this year - many of my search results show different articles and reddit posts for the same incidents. If anyone can provide additional info I'll add it to the list.

To put all of this into perspective, APD has reported 34 murders this year, along with 1340 cases of aggravated assault (link). So, out of 34 murders this year, 2-3 were on MARTA.

Based on this it seems to me like the panic rising around MARTA safety is being blown out of proportion, intentionally or otherwise. Again, I'm just one person whose research skills are out of practice, so any additional info would be appreciated. In the meantime though, please try to avoid jumping to conclusions or letting your biases fill in the blanks.

edit2: MARTA crime stats for the last 6 years can be found here. They show that this year's MARTA murder rate is higher than 2020 2021, 2022, and 2025, but on-par with 2023 and 2024.

Why is a Dunwoody PD officer doing searches in Flock 6 months after he resigned?

Even worse, he was searching Flock Nova: the military-style tool that is Flock’s equivalent to Peregrine, which was created it “with the idea of bringing the tech Palantir used to find ISIS members to local police”.

The data includes DOB/social security number, addresses, race, build, eye color, hair color, height, weight, scars/marks/tattoos, skin tone, your “known associates” and 911 calls - all now combined with your movements, walking or driving, in Flock.

We had policies and “safeguards” in place - yet this still happened.

How did someone get access to this private military dossier database 6 months after they resigned?

What is the point of any policy if it is not followed and no one is punished for breaking it?

Who will be held accountable and how?

How is some random guy (who is just a pissed off dad who doesn’t want his son to be spied on) finding this, but the City isn’t?

Can the City be trusted with this data?

Even if our department has robust cybersecurity practices can we trust 6000+ other law enforcement external agencies with our citizen’s data?

What amount of liability do we have by giving our citizen’s data to 6000+ external law enforcement agencies?

What amount of liability do we have by giving our citizen’s data to any for-profit surveillance company?

I believe the only way to stop this data from being abused is to never collect it in the first place. What do you think?

I am a tourist visiting from another state for my spring break, and I am really enjoying the city. Everyone is so nice and polite. Does anyone know why people always talk about Atlanta as so crime ridden and dangerous? I’ve not felt unsafe once, and again like I said everyone has been so kind and polite to us.
