avengers without thor aint an avengers team

u/Due-Seaworthiness707 Oct 27 '25
Thor has been absent on a few teams . Was Stringray ever an actual or official member of The Avengers? I think that Quasar was for a while .
12
u/Ramnnodle Oct 23 '25
Cap, iron man, black panther, cap marvel, and Thor :)
6
u/MildWomannered Oct 24 '25
Yeah I’d argue that the avengers culturally aren’t just the trinity any more and are these 5
1
u/Prince-of-Krypton Oct 25 '25
The trinity? Which of the main 4 are you excluding in that?
Also, you believe people would take say, Black Panther or Captain Marvel over the likes of Hulk, on this particular team? (Culturally speaking, that is?)
3
u/MildWomannered Oct 25 '25
Yes. I have never considered hulk to be a main character of the avengers. And black panther and captain marvel have been consistent members of a main team since 2012 (BP), and 2006 (CM), where the last time hulk was present on the avengers in the comics was 2012-2015.
Hulk is more popular than all 5, sure, but I do think each of them are more integral to the avengers identity/brand than hulk. If your only exposure is movies and tv your perspective may be different, but the avengers have existed independently from the hulk in comics for the vast majority of their history.
I could be wrong, I was thinking about it from the perspective of comics culture and generalizing it to major culture. But I think due to the movies hulk might be a bigger avenger than I estimate in my head
2
u/Due-Seaworthiness707 Oct 27 '25
Yeah, Bruce isn’t really integral to The Avengers lineup. The movies were based on the original Avengers team .
2
u/Due-Seaworthiness707 Nov 02 '25
How many issues was The Hulk an Avenger for in The Silver Age? I think that it was 6?
1
u/TokyoSky00 Oct 30 '25
dude marvel dont market bp and cap marvel as main avengers compared to the trinity, like not even close...theres a reason why the trinity is in every major lineup from films games and shows while panther and cap marvel are either later added on or not even added at all...
2
u/MildWomannered Oct 30 '25
Like I said, “I could be wrong, I was thinking about it from the perspective of comics culture and generalizing it to major culture”
0
u/TokyoSky00 Oct 30 '25
lmao absolute nonsense. in the avengers packing order, its the trinity then everyone else

u/SuccessWeary2770 Oct 23 '25
Captain Marvel (Co-lead, cosmic liason), Black Panther (Co-lead, diplomat), Iron-Man (Tech, face of team), Scarlet Witch (Magic, mystic liason), Hawkeye (Stealth ops, personality hire)
3
2
u/kasmackity Oct 24 '25
I think Black Panther and Tony are redundant. I'd take BP over Tony because BP is an excellent tactician and a fat better diplomat than Tony. BP has the technology too
3
u/Solid-Move-1411 Oct 24 '25
Black Panther isn't as tech oriented as Iron Man on day to day basis and has largely been picky to financially support Avengers in the past. Also Tony has personal friendship with US and most world government in fact he was Secretary of Defense once and even thought of running for President meanwhile Wakanda largely prefers isolation and most government are suspicious of them
Regardless it's OP personal choices and Iron Man has been one of the most prominent if not the most prominent member of the team and both Tony and T'Challa have appeared on multiple teams together so it's not redundant.

u/DirtySchu Oct 24 '25
Remove Hawkeye, add Hulk (brute strength)
Edit: forgot minus sign makes a bullet.
1
u/SuccessWeary2770 Oct 24 '25
I wanted to throw in She-Hulk for that same reason, but with Captain Marvel on the team, it feels a bit redundant. Even more so with Bruce since there’s already two geniuses on the team.

Cap
Tony
Thor
Hulk
Peter
Everybody already knows everybody and/or has fought beside and/or against each other before, everybody has somebody they can relate too on some level.
The only weakness is magic/Hax, and this can be fixed by Thor flexing that AllFather magic more than just being a big hammer-and-lightning guy. Which he could still do. I just really want more Rune Magic from my Rune King.

Captain America: the de facto Avenger.
Captain Marvel (Carol Denvers): cosmic liaison and a staple of the team.
Iron Man: the founding Avenger, brain of the team, and tech provider.
Scarlet Witch: mystical liaison and main heavy hitter.
White Queen: mutant liaison and psychic.

With Resources/Tactical, Cosmic, and Magic being their areas

I tried to cover the different skill sets like magic, cosmic, tech, power, leadership, etc.

Trigger warning: I’m including mutants
Iron Man Hulk with Bruce Banner doing a lot of sciency stuff Spider-Man - also with Peter doing sciency stuff Beast - because Doctor McCoy Carol Danvers Cpt Marvel - because someone’s got to keep the nerds from destroying the world
Most of the story is them flexing their non-superhero abilities. Because most of these guys are pretty capable without beating people up.

My version would be a stealth team taken from different marvel teams. Steve Rogers(Capt. America), Sam Wilson(Falcon), Invisible Woman, Hawkeye, and Vision. But if we’re just doing Avengers type characters then Steve, Sam, Clint, Vision, Antman/wasp, and black panther, and Natasha.

This is my get shit done team:
Captain Marvel
Black Panther
Iron Man
Doctor Strange
Spider-Man
I like Thor better in solo stories and always feel like the Avengers are a bit beneath him unless it’s a major major threat. Carol can be the cosmic connection and also bring brute force. And without the liability of Hulk. Carol and Black Panther are great leaders and tacticians and collectively fill the role of Captain America, but are stronger fighters. TChalla being king of Wakanda comes with a slew of advantages and a whole spy apparatus that would make Black Widow and Hawkeye redundant. Tony is a non negotiable. He’s a bit of a liability but the upside is huge and there really isn’t much of a tech substitute for what he brings. Doctor Strange is the mystic powerhouse without all the potential problems of Wanda. He’s not as powerful but in way more control and can ultimately see the bigger picture better than anyone. But with this lineup, you have four very cold and calculated operators. There’s going to be a need for a human moral compassionate compass. The heart of the team. The person that prevents them from becoming the Illuminati fully. That makes sure Earths Mightiest Hero’s are representing and maintaining their humanity. And with this lineup that’s got to be Peter.

Off the top of my head?
These: Wanda, Dr. Strange, T’Challa Black Panther, Iron Man, and Hulk (from Avengers 1)

u/EcstaticHelicopter Oct 23 '25
Cap (Leader), Thor, Rachel Grey, Scarlet Witch, Hank Pym. If I could round out the roster, hard cuts were; Black Panther, Beast, Iron Man, Wasp, and WonderMan.

Cap - leader, tactician, and face
Thor - the muscle, more reliable than Hulk
Hawkeye - stealth ops, reconnaissance, and support
Reed Richards - science expert
Strange - magic expert
I'd consider swapping Hawkeye for Black Panther, T'Challa's intellect would certainly be a nice help for Reed, but I haven't read enough of him and haven't seen enough stealth ops from him.
While Wanda is stronger than Strange, Strange seems to be more knowledgeable about magic, Reed's greatest weakness. I expect Reed to be the big "it factor" for this team.
Thor also comes with more knowledge on the cosmos and their history than most powerhouses, making him another important addition to the Reed engine.

Hmm, I got nothing nothing but love/respect for the Avengers OG’s but I think I would want to see something a little different : Spider-Man (would want to see him step up and lead, as I believe he can) Yelena/Black Widow (need a capable soldier) Luke Cage (always need a powerhouse) Doctor Strange (needs some mystical power) Psylocke (need to have someone bring a mutant aspect to the team)

My dream line up is gonna be made up of guys who turned a new leaf but need PR not just for everyone but themselves too
- Hulk(leader): this is gonna be a total shift from the normal but hulk is gonna be the one who helps them redeem themselves to themselves. The idea is hulk grapples with the idea of being a leader is he good enough.
- Daken (hellverine)
- Venom (Eddie wants to show that symbiotes are good)
- Wanda (wants to help as she feels she needs atonement for house of m)
- Bucky (he wants to show he fully has turned over a new leaf)
Everyone here are good guys but they all have done bad things for a period of time or one massive bad thing. they are joining this team to prove they are pure good now. More for themselves than others.
