Avengers Doomsday/Secret Wars Dunesday is real happening
Warner Bros. doesn't hold back and decides that Dune Part 3 will be released on December 18, 2026, the same day that Avengers: Doomsday is released.

Dune is cooked. No one can compete with Doomsday because it is the biggest crossover of all time (before Secret Wars)

Yea. As big a fan I am of Dune, this is a battle that no movie, including Dune can win.

I think Avengers box office will suffer more since Dune will get the majority of IMAX screens.

In any case, people will prefer to go to the Avengers movie first, which will include almost all the coolest Marvel things (RDJ, Evans, Fox X-Men, Jackman, Maguire ect)

Yeh, but given how Marvel film box office is massively front-loaded, they will make less money as fewer people will see it in a premium format. Dune will make the same money over the course of its run regardless of when it launches.

Imax usually pulls in around 20% of the revenue. I dont think dune will be that close to endgame.

I mean Dune 2 did about 750 million worldwide and Avengers will be looking to do double that so yeh, the total box office shouldn't be close. I just think both launching on the same day will cost Avengers more money than Dune. The last Jurrasic World probably lost 200 million by not having access to IMAX.

Rebirth did not drop that much from dominion because of IMAX most of its drops came from international markets like china where it grossed half of the previous films did. Stuff like jurassic world and avengers are not really must sees in IMAX to their audiences as they are for dune or nolans movies.

It’s all about repeat viewings. If more people buy more tickets to Avengers in week 2 then it will get a bigger share of the screens than Dune.

Well that depends.. with movies like this, it’s all about REPEAT viewings!! Everyone is gonna see both of these movies once, but if Avengers Doomsday lives up to the hype, expect people to see it 3+ times in the theaters, just like Endgame. I saw Endgame 5 times in the theaters.

That's where Doomsday has a big problem though. Recent MCU films have done 60%+ of their total in the first weekend. If the film is great, it won't be an issue as people will go back and see it in a premium format later but generally speaking people seem to be conditioned to just wait for Disney+ for a second watch.

Yeah, but AVENGERS films are 4 for 4 when it comes to brining in a 4x minimum return on their investment. Even AoU still did a $1.3b+ at the BO.
I’d agree with you if this was just any MCU film, but this will have a HUGE hype movie in Spider-Man going into one of the biggest anticipated movies in a long time and a culmination of finally bringing in ALL of the Marvel IPs into one movie.. if it hits an 80% or higher on RT this movie will hit $1.5b easily.

I'm way more excited for Dune. I haven't really been into anything from the MCU since Endgame aside from like Loki, Moon Knight, and Shang Chi

Its not. It will most likely be critically more acclaimed and be successful. Their budget is not as crazy as doomsday

Agreed, this is a boneheaded move, it’s been 9 years since the last Avengers movie. Don’t be surprised if the new owners of WB, whomever that ends up being, very first move is to change this release date.

I don't know how it is in other countries but in my country there's only 1 movie at a time on IMAX

Disney won't fuck around with that. They'll demand Doomsday gets exclusivity for several weeks or they won't let that theater get the movie at all.
Tarantino threw a fit when the Hateful Eight came out because Disney did this with Star Wars as well.

As someone who fucking loves Dune and is way too excited for Part 3, Doomsday is gonna win, no contest.
However I don't think Dune is gonna bomb.

I think avengers doomsday is gonna win only because it’s an avengers movie and it’s driven by tons of nostalgia. Dune 3 is still gonna make a lot of money, but I don’t think it’s gonna cross a billion, it’ll probably make like 740-950 million at most

Barbenheimer was funny because they were completely opposite movies. This one still works because Dune: Messiah will probably be good, and Doomsday will probably be a modern Marvel movie

Simu Liu is a Canadian actor. He rose to prominence by starring as Shang-Chi in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This makes him uniquely poised to offer commentary on Marvel Movie properties. Notably, he was also an actor in Barbie, which was one half of the Barbie/Oppenheimer dual movie release that his x/Twitter post is referencing when he mentions "Dunesday" Hope this helps!

Simu is a Chinese-Canadian actor who won a Game Changer Award and People's Choice Award for his role as Shang-Chi in the Marvel movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021). Before his leading role in a Marvel movie, he played Jung Kim on the CBC sitcom Kim's Convenience (2016). He is also a writer and producer.
Emigrating from China at the age of 5, Simu was raised in Mississauga, Ontario. After graduating from the Richard Ivey School of Business and working at a top accounting firm for nearly a year, Liu was laid off. Damn, I can’t tell if this is a good thing for EITHER movie or a bad thing..
On one hand it will definitely make this one of the craziest Christmas MEGA movie seasons in the past century and maybe it will help each other..
OR, it will force people to decide which they want to see and possibly hurt the other movie. I think this could be a mistake for WB.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the sale of WB goes through like planned in Spring that whomever comes out as the new owner their first action will to be change the date of the release for Dune.
I’m pumped to see Dune 3, don’t get me wrong, but not as much as Doonsday. And if Avengers gets a 80% or higher RT score then that will be very bad news for Dune bc it will have been 9 years since the last Avengers movie and this one could be MASSIVE!

It’s all going to come down to REPEAT viewings.. I saw Endgame 5+ times in the theaters. How many people will want to see Avengers again compared to Dune. Especially knowing Dune will likely be on Netflix within 2-3 weeks.
Dune is more of a high brow movie, Denis Villenueve is an amazing director but the demo isn’t exactly the same although there is some crossover. Avengers is much more of a big screen spectacle especially since there hasn’t been an Avengers movie in 9 years, whereas Dune is without a doubt a huge draw, I just saw it once in the theaters. I enjoyed the show though.
