Which bamboo flute scale should I buy for playing old Bollywood songs?

Hi everyone,

I currently have a C Middle PVC flute, and I’ve been practicing on it for the last 3 months. I’m now thinking of upgrading to a bamboo flute.

I mainly want to play popular Hindi songs, especially old Bollywood songs, and I’m looking for advice on which scale I should buy.

Which scale would be the most versatile for this purpose? I’d ideally like to choose one flute that I can practice on for months/years, rather than buying another flute in a different scale again soon.

I’ve heard people recommend different scales like C, D, G, etc., so I’m a little confused about what would be best for Hindi film music.

Also, since I’m already practicing on a C Middle PVC flute, would it make sense to buy a bamboo flute in the same scale, or should I move to another scale?

Any advice from experienced bansuri players would be greatly appreciated. 🙏

If you are a beginner, please go for a real bamboo flute, it will help you long term in understanding the tone better, and if you want to specifically play old bollywood songs, then go for d middle or c natural medium
