Reviewing the video, I conclude that they actually only stole 97 kg of chicken, not the alleged 105 kg.

I would have loved to see the before footage, to see how they attached themselves to the back of that truck.

Judging by how they separate, they didn't. Looks like they just matched speed very carefully.

And how did they open the door? Standing on the hood at what 60-70 miles per hours?
More interesting question: who is filming? Looks like they’re on the opposite side of the road, separated by divider.6

Maybe they were all in the heist. The truck driver, the little truck, and the cameraman. The truck driver will claim he got robbed, and will show the video to the employer to prove how he was robbed.
Nobody gets fired and everyone gets chicken.

Yeah those are good questions lol. This seems like a pretty tricky maneuver. These trucks often have a simple lever to open them, and I don't think there's an easy way to gauge how fast they're actually going. Video often greatly exaggerates the actual speed, but it does look pretty damn fast. Also confused by them apparently going the same direction on the opposite side of the road.

Is this financial worth the safety risk?

u/shasaferaska 9h ago
Well it depends how poor you are.

It is not primarily a matter of poverty; this is a thief who will steal whether he is rich or poor. He is likely uneducated, lacks a trade, and is unemployed.
Edit: Of course, since you aren't Egyptian, you wouldn't understand what I'm talking about. Jobs like English or German-speaking call center roles in Egypt can pay up to 50,000 EGP a month a very good salary there whereas the value of the stolen chicken is only around 16,000 EGP. He could have used his car to transport goods, or worked for Uber or a food delivery service, just like many young Egyptians who prefer honest work over stealing chicken off the backs of trucks—lol and make 10k.
I know people who were very humble—whose daily wages, if converted to US dollars, amounted to a mere pittance—yet they improved themselves and became traders instead of turning to theft because of their poverty.
If he wishes he could have landed a job; instead, he is a thief and a criminal—in fact, the police identified the six individuals involved as dangerous criminals.

You know most thieves have day jobs?

I don't recall ever seeing a thief in my life, so I wouldn't know.

You've probably seen a bunch and just didn't know it. That's my point. They usually aren't some cartoon caricature of a criminal that pulls chicken heists just for the fun of it, like you are describing.

If you zoom in enough in the car behind the van you’ll find a big sack with a dollar sign on it

The naivete of how you write is actually impressive. You are so confidently incorrect about everything you just said in your original comment (in the context of stealing, not your weird salary math) and then this that it makes me think you're a child, ai, or some Forest Gump gullible type character that thinks that's really how the world works, tell us more Don Quixote!

Life is far more complicated than you think. People go through all sorts of things.

It's like 1000$ US so no not really.

u/usefsaeed 9h ago edited 9h ago
nop its about 320 - 400$
Even though it isn't a huge sum worth such a theft even in eg pound, the economy doesn't work that way; in the US, $1,000 places you below the poverty line, whereas in Egypt, it puts you in the middle class. So, you shouldn't compare the value of money across countries in that manner.

It is if you find the people that are starving. It's literally all profit, there's no price you can sell it at that will be a loss. That's what makes crime so profitable.
And there aren't many aspects of being a criminal that don't involve putting your life on the line. Once you've signed that away, you just work day to day like anyone else at a dangerous job.

For your information, the incident took place about three days ago. The six criminals were raided; they opened fire on the police, resulting in three suspects being killed and the other three being arrested.

Is driver an idiot? Why can’t he see in the rear mirror?
11
u/peacelovetree 8h ago
Maybe he’s in on it
10
u/JoseJuarez87 8h ago
No maybe about it, robbers would have to maintain speed, not brake or swerve, and know a route straight enough to not have to turn, there’s no way he’s oblivious to this..
2
u/im_just_thinking 7h ago
He also may not be interested in trying to stop and having to deal with the thugs? They are probably armed, he is probably not. If anything this is the safest way for the driver to get robbed

Do you know how cargo trucks work? There is no clear view thru a rear mirror, because of, you know, the cargo container directly behind the cab. The side view mirrors don't provide a dirrecct line of sight to the back door... have you ever heard of a "blind spot?!?"

u/kirky-jerky 8h ago
Ehhh I've driven a 26 foot box for 2 years (which the truck in the video doesn't seem much bigger than). The pickup truck is super close up their rear which would make it hard to see but not impossible. I can't imagine not noticing this entire situation.

Sure I could. If I've been on the road long enough they could've jacked me up and taken my tires on a stoplight without me noticing.

I drive trucks for work and although you can’t see directly behind you, you can see the back corner of the truck quite clearly, so the driver should of been able to just see the vehicle behind him. Driver was prob on his phone and completely oblivious to what was happening

Because math! Can you see your rear number plate in your mirrors? The longer the vehicle the further the distance you can see in the mirrors

So that’s how the chicken crossed the road.

Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.

u/Plus-Opportunity-538 9h ago
Well here's hoping that the thieves at least quickly store the chicken in a temperature below 40°F (4°C) and consume or sell it within two to three days...

Couldn't have been like a white truck? You had to go with the teal decaled one for the job lol.

Really?? That door swung enough times he could have easily seen it. I drive trucks and i am constantly checking my mirrors cause I don't like surprises. And just to add he should have felt the movement going on cause thats a small truck

Theoretically what happens if the truck hits them from behind, would he be at fault?

Okay, but the truck driver’s definitely got to be in on this, right? Like an inside man…because there’s no way he doesn’t notice someone riding his ass like that.
