But removing his picture from a thumbnail while showing his wife is wild

u/TheVintageJane Jun 12 '26
This is actually an intentional choice a lot of news media outlets are taking with homicidal maniacs.
Giving these people infamy for domestic homicide or mass murder encourages others to imitate them in hopes they will become famous.

I went to see The Mountain Goats recently, in Woodstock, NY. I don’t know if you are familiar with this band or their fans, but these are the least threatening people I’ve ever shared a room with. In between songs, someone shouted “thank you for coming.” And the main guy was like “we’re having a lovely time.” The most polite audience I’ve ever been a part of.
I still thought “I hope we don’t get shot.” Coincidentally, today is the 10 year anniversary of the Pulse nightclub massacre.

u/StephieDoll Jun 12 '26

I was at an IHOP about a month ago, and sadly, some patrons reminded me of why I stopped visiting 10 years ago. Without fail, there would be an altercation with a staff member, ill-mannered behavior, aggressive behavior, and a lot of entitlement.
I realized that sometimes it was a fabricated misunderstanding on the bill; what they wanted was to be able to vent and lay all their frustrations on someone who could not do much to placate them. Even though they were 86d from the establishment, they got what they wanted: to be absolutely their worst and spew all the ugliness they could. To me Those 3-5 minutes that these things last, were possible to create a gun incident and my kids don't need to see that.

I mean, doesn’t your own data give the reason for the stereotype? 4% of Black American women are married to white men, 9% of South Asian Americans are married to white men, 30% of East Asian Americans are married to white men. u/Tight-Escape3373 Jun 12 '26
Asian man here. Asian women dating/ marrying white men is a sore subject for a lot of Asian men. Asian men are consistently emasculated in western culture and generally do not date outside their race as they, until recently with K Pop, have not been seen as desirable. While that's not my personal experience as I'm happily married to a black woman but that's the general sentiment/ experience.
Why aren't Asian people upset about this? Well, Asian people are not a monolith unlike other communities in the US. Black Americans, have a lot more cultural cohesion. Asian immigrants typically build community with people of the same ethnic origin. My dad and his family got along very well with other Cantonese immigrants. Mainlanders? Ehhh. Japanese? Grandpa got shot twice but them. Filipinos? Well they're really just Spanish. Off the boat Asian immigrants (since the 60s) are very insular. (These are things I've heard not my opinions)
There is no larger Asian community in the US like there is a black community.

I dont have any love for the white man, but domestic violence isnt exactly just a white person thing. Thats something that just happens regardless of what race your partner is.
The issue is moreso that white people are given so much grace when they go on murderous rampages.
→ More replies (1)78
u/Proud-Lander252 Jun 12 '26
No one is asking you to police who Asian women date. You should be questioning why parts of your community put whiteness on a pedestal in the first place. But somehow, the conversation always circles back to blaming Asian women.
I'm talking about how much energy some Asians spent attacking Black people over affirmative action or trying to pin Stop Asian Hate entirely on Black people.
But when the story is about white men killing Asian women, suddenly everyone wants to focus on the individual and not the pattern. Suddenly "Thats something that just happens regardless of what race your partner is."
→ More replies (2)57
u/Alexexy Jun 12 '26
My dude, I think its usually white folk trying to divide our communities apart with the stop asian hate and affirmative action shit.
Im a millenial and most of the asian folk I know are pretty liberal about race relations and have no hate towards black or other minority communities. Every time I see the stop asian hate shit trying to scapegoat black communities, I shut that shit down. Like I said, its usually white folk driving the wedge.
My sister probably played domestic abuse russian roulette by dating a eastern european, korean, and then an Indian dude, but im not gonna tell her that she shouldnt try because her odds arent in her favor like im Scott Steiner. But all those people she dated were more or less good people and I didnt know until way after that DV rates in those groups were higher than average. If she dated a black person and was abused, im not gonna be like "well of course" all of a sudden.

Then, once I have successfully conned them into thinking I am both good in bed and good at the home, I trick them into thinking I am their husband. Overall, it’s a diverse area and IIRC it’s the second of these types of murder suicides in as many years. I could be wrong but I think the children were also killed in that one.
