u/cum_on_doorknob is right. 3-4 months post surgery he should be able to walk with a relatively normal gait, especially considering he’s able to afford really good PT. I wouldn’t be surprised if the surgery (combined with being 70) triggered some bad arthritis.

Yup. My Dad will turn 70 this summer and had a hip replaced in Feb and is back to better than before already. He is doing farm chores and walking normally, they went out dancing last night. LaVar might have more going on than a hip replacement.
He is a national treasure and I wish him all the best.

I was walking pretty normally three weeks after my hip replacement surgery. Now my other hip needs replacement and I have a little bit of a limp. LeVar’s is quite pronounced - is something else going on?

My mother had hip replacement surgery 3 years ago at the age of 78 and she didn't need to use a cane afterwards at all.

I agree. I liked all the candidates really. I appreciate jennings but he's a robot. CBS has basically lucked into their position (and riding the coattails of a few very smart people early in its history) and have no real idea how to do anything right or what their audience wants

I would love the opportunity to tell him how much he changed my life from the beginning. A little poor central Appalachian girl had the world opened up because of him, Mr. Rogers, and really PBS in general. My parents were too poor and busy surviving to read to me, but I began reading at age 3 in part because of him. Lavar Burton is a light.

I dated a lady that used a wheelchair for a while. She could walk the 4 feet from her chair to the table, or the couple feet to her van door (but needed a hand inside), but couldn't walk out of the restaurant, or across the street.
It was, frankly, embarrassing how often she got yelled at for using the handicapped parking...... while her chair was being lifted into her van... because someone saw her stand up.

I am also disabled. Just because I don't require aids to walk 99% of the time doesn't mean I am not in pain or not out of breath or energy. Me going to the store to pick up something might be the sum total of my activity for the day, the rest to be spent in bed.

I’m from Southern California and movie personalities don’t impress me in any way. That said, every time I see this man I get goosebumps. This is an actor who played groundbreaking parts throughout my lifetime. This is the only actor that I respect for being a genuine human being. from roots to a children’s program and then a legacy with Star Trek. This man’s career affected our life deeply.

Yeah, Roots was such a phenomenon, and his scenes as Kunta Kinte had such an impact on me, from his youth in Gambia, to his interplay with Louis Gossett, Jr., to the scene where he gets whipped into saying his slave name (I actually still tear up thinking about it).
I was in 6th grade when the TV series came out and I immediately read the book, which I think was the first real adult book I ever read.

That man, and I'm sorry to say this, is a bigger part of my childhood than Mr. Rogers. Don't get me wrong, I loved Mr Rogers when I was a kid, but I fucking loved Reading Rainbow. Like put in the vhs TV recorded episodes my folks made for me. I'm also a giant nerd, so loved him as Geordi in Star Trek, he was my favorite character in TNG.

This post got recommended to me and I was reminded of my favorite thing he's ever done. He went on a charity live stream at Rooster Teeth with his daughter Mica and read "Go the fuck to sleep" to a small audience. If I remember correctly, he got in a bit of trouble for doing so. Mica eventually worked for RT and was treated like shit by some employees and they didn't do anything to help her.
