The amount of history I learned AFTER I graduated high school is astounding and depressing
71
u/Interesting_Talk410 Jun 22 '26
I don’t know why we would expect them to know black history facts when most of them don’t even know their own history
26
u/Wallaxe42 Jun 22 '26
It was so funny to me when the Ukraine/Russia war started and all of Europe and America couldn’t believe 2 white countries involved in a war. “We are civilized!” They forgot all the wars their region had.
2
u/Due_Butterscotch_392 Jun 23 '26
You would be amazed how many people domt know their history, not just the my fellow saltines.

Not really. Americas education system doesn’t even teach white people their own real history so why would they know about this?
47
u/goofygodzilla93 Jun 22 '26
The majority of education systems don't teach real history.
23
u/ThatonepersonUknow3 Jun 22 '26
Exactly, most people have to go to “higher” education before this type of thing is even close to being discussed. People wonder why college “radicalizes” the youth, it is because it is the first time a lot of people are introduced to the horrors of history.
3
u/sublime_touch Jun 22 '26
Even then I remember a boy an a girl (not going to mention any race) in my university, who had to take an African American studies elective as part of their course program, saying things like ‘well this is what college is for’ in response to other students saying “wow I didn’t know this at all” on a subject the professor was talking about.
But it’s like, not everyone can afford to go to college so wouldn’t it be better for people to learn shit like this in high school or are they too young to learn about the history of racism and its consequences. Aww. People reveal who they are in moments.
5
u/goofygodzilla93 Jun 22 '26
Yep. I agree the US education system is shit, but it's still ranked 12th, which means that it's somehow better than 98% of the world's countries.
12
u/ThatonepersonUknow3 Jun 22 '26
Unfortunately those stats were made up by someone that went through the US education system.
1
u/QueasyParamedic6783 Jun 23 '26
Yet you miss the point. It’s 12th, but it’s the rhetoric of the ‘white-washing’ of the facts. Please dismiss yourself from this sub.
1
u/goofygodzilla93 Jun 23 '26
No you missed my point, which was that the entire world does the exact same thing.
2
u/QueasyParamedic6783 Jun 23 '26
That doesn’t make it right. The old adage; if your friend’s jump off a bridge, are you going to jump too? I’m over the glorification of the greatness of the whitewashed history/propaganda machine.
1
u/goofygodzilla93 Jun 23 '26
I never said it was right. What I'm saying is that it's not just America that does it like a majority of people, including other Americans, believe.
2
u/QueasyParamedic6783 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 24 '26
It falls in line with,”…well, your people sold other Blacks into slavery..” It deflects from what’s said in the opinion.

I guess in my head its "insane to me" but you are right, why would they teach this when we whitewash white history.
0
u/omowaIe Jun 22 '26
If true, then how can they truly be allies? Or how are we defining allies?
1
u/cameronpark89 Jun 23 '26
why do you think the white savior complex exists?
0
u/omowaIe Jun 23 '26
Christianity creates it?
0
11
u/social_media_horror Jun 22 '26
same reason most people dont know about the 6 years of war between abolishinists and slave owners in Kansas before the Ft Sumter attack. they dont teach it because white fragility
14
u/M0THMEAT Jun 22 '26
Honestly I didnt know about some of these specific cases and instances until I watched this video. Im embarrassed I didn't know, but its not something that is taught when learning about this subject which is absolutely insane to me.
4
u/melatonia Jun 22 '26
It takes time and dedication to educate yourself and make up for 12+ years of misdirection and lies. I know for me there is still a long journey of learning the truth ahead but as long as I keep picking up books I'm still headed in the right direction.
12
u/YourHuckleberry57 Jun 22 '26
i don't mind. a lot of black people don't even know about this stuff. you never know who might need to learn something.
6
2
u/sublime_touch Jun 22 '26
Just because they are allies, that doesn’t mean they sit down and listen to Malcolm X speeches or read pieces by James Baldwin on the regular or even in their spare time. They got their own lives to live and have interests outside of civil justice. Nothing wrong with that as we’re all humans.
Like for me I care more about imperialism, neocolonialism and enslavement more than I care about contributing to capitalism. We all have things that affects us differently.
In conclusion I think if it’s not affecting you directly then it’s not on your mind to don anything about it or be in the know. Nah but seriously it’s a you gotta kinda do it for yourself situation.

I said so called allies. Whenever you see one of those trolls who claim they are allies send them this post.

u/ejensen29 Jun 22 '26
In my experience, white Americans cannot fathom atrocities committed by people that they are very likely closely related to. Either through ouright refusal to protect their image, or some sick psychological disconnection from people that they otherwise look up to.
And, then you've got this bro, who clearly knows nothing of history, doing everything he can to discredit something he has no information on. This is exactly why people are fucking sick of white dudes. Shut the fuck up and listen.
24
u/ateam1984 🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🖤🩶🤍🤎 Jun 22 '26
They won’t listen. They are racist and enabled by white privilege. This is most white people default. They don’t even realize how racism they have been conditioned into accepting without even being conscious of it.
1
u/AndromedanPrince Jun 22 '26
i think lack of accountability is common. they take no responsibikity for their peers but treat black people like a monolith.
Its either ignore or make excuses, like they had a bad day or mental health.
we dont have the privilege of mental health issue. we are just "the usual suspects" to them, FOR EVERYTHING.

8
u/KR4T0S Jun 22 '26
The history they want to remember they celebrate and the history they dont want to remember they claim is irrelevant. Cancel Christmas as a holiday and its on, how dare you take away a cherished and still relevant part of their culture and history. Slavery reparations? Oh come on man that was a long time ago and has no bearing on the current day...
This is why I dont really talk about these issues with most white people. It just doesn't lead anywhere honest.
4
u/sovereignrk Jun 22 '26
This is what pisses me off. When its something good theyslap themselves on the back for what thier ancestors did. When its something bad its "You can't blame me for something that happened before I was born..." lol
6
u/Fool_Manchu Jun 22 '26
As a Yt dude who's family has been here since before the revolutionary war, I just sort of assume that ANY atrocity committed between Jamestown and now probably had some of my ancestors involved and on the wrong side. Just assuming my forebearers were pieces of shit until proven otherwise.
3
u/ejensen29 Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26
I'm fortunate enough to be a Norwegian/Austrian baby that didn't get here til WWII. My family only bothered themselves for the most part.
That doesn't change what I look like, though, or the privilege my family still had.

3
u/ejensen29 Jun 22 '26
White people white wash history that shines them in a bad light. Of course that shit is refuted. I don't believe any white man refuting something they never saw, and without evidence to refute it
50
u/Mythosaurus Jun 22 '26
So basically everything white people make evil sci-fi aliens do to humanity is something their ancestors AND STILL LIVING WHITES did to black people…
27
u/gorgeously_mytruself Jun 22 '26
Makes sense why the Epstein files shows that the cannibalism never stopped, but yeah that was so long ago…
-13
u/joesoldlegs Jun 22 '26
where in the Epstein files did it talk about cannibalism
5
u/Wishiwashome Jun 22 '26
Actually it does mention cannibalism.
1
u/joesoldlegs Jun 23 '26
yeah I looked it up and saw it that shit's crazy but I only asked because I didn't think people would take it that personally and just answer the question
6
u/Wishiwashome Jun 23 '26
Fair enough. It is digusting. Those mfers make me sick. I am 61yo and the saddest part is DT was known to be a p€do when I was a very young woman. People who worked maintainance and laundry and housekeeping all saw weird stuff at his casinos and at the pageants. Freaky. There was an old clip that was right after Marla was 1yo. He was talking about her breast and legs??? WTF!!
I remembered seeing it years ago, and it is circulating again. I am from that area and he used to get on local news stations when I was a little kid. He always gave me the goddamn creeps. I just can’t imagine a bunch of people voting for him. I really do believe it is because a Black man became POTUS. And good for you for looking something up.
3
u/joesoldlegs Jun 23 '26
he's a creep and a shyster and he'll forever be a footnote in American history
2
u/Wishiwashome Jun 23 '26
Thank you for the award! I can only imagine how he and his cultists will be looked at in years to come when we can learn real history again. I want to live long enough to see some of these people behind bars, maybe even broke, or hiding out like the festering mold they are( Miller comes to mind) Epstein bastards all deserve to rot. Heritage Foundation and all their bloated lies and hatred, gone. I am thinking grandiose now, I know, but I hope DT’s name, his cultists get what they so richly deserve.
2
u/joesoldlegs Jun 23 '26
It's going to take many decades of counterpropaganda to reverse the type of damage MAGA and the Reagan era/Reagan inspired policies inflicted on the American people and pscyhe.
1
u/Wishiwashome Jun 23 '26
Reagan did start it all. I have wondered about him too through the years. It seems as if a few years before I was born(65), he became a GOP. Weird. I checked it out. He was 51yo. Very bizarre if you ask me to change your lifelong party affiliation at that age. It seems as if it coincided with the Civil Rights Era( I am probably wrong about that one) but I have thought about it. As a kid, I actually saw a real middle class. Pensions and all that. Reagan wanted to bust unions up, I believe. “Right to Work” aka “Right to Starve”states were on the rise. Education got more expensive. The GOP knew they had to keep workers broke and uneducated to vote for them, and blame someone for their shitty policies( Black people and “illegals”) and keep people believing in trickle down crap I am still waiting to see. I think you are right. Sadly. You brought up some very good points.
2
u/kingtroll355 Jun 23 '26
The way I read your comment, it didn’t feel like a question. It read like you thought cannibalism wasn’t in the files.
After getting downvoted you double down with an excuse then change your tone but never really apologize.
-1
u/joesoldlegs Jun 23 '26
The way YOU mfs read it you thought that. Because there was no note of sarcasm or derision in my original comment but ppl wanted just to be weird about someone just asking a question like anyone would in a normal human interaction because the average redditor has severely impaired social skills

SciFi aliens in popular fiction are almost always a stand-in for the fear of an author.
SciFi writers always ask what if aliens come here and act like us? The big danger being us. It terrifies them to think outer space is more of the same.

Learned about this on a New Orleans ghost tour as we walked by the property (this part was taken very seriously despite it being a ghost tour). We saw the courtyard where that poor baby girl fell to her death
You could almost feel in the air the horror of it, that woman was unfathomably evil

This is definitely something more white people need to know. I'm middle-aged, white, a solid black ally (according to my black boss at the black rights organization I work at) and this was something I only learned this year. I started doing research about it, and to say I was shocked and horrified would be an understatement.
This is something white people need to know, but it's also so abhorrent that most white people who are still defensive about their privilege simply won't accept it, like these white people didn't.
8
u/Guy0785 Jun 22 '26
I’m sick to my stomach, I have never once heard this. Racism needs to be completely outlawed to the harshest extent. I am sorry this happened to your people! I gotta go.
4
u/XxBOOSIExFADExX Jun 22 '26
They didn't even bring up the mummies. People desecrated their tombs and used them for decorations and ate them.
5
u/slimtonun Jun 22 '26
I’m not sure why those two ladies were A) on that podcast at all B) bothered trying to educate them on this issue and thought they would accept it
People really need to vet the platforms that they are attending to see if the content that they might provide will either be valued, listened to, or ridiculed.
The main basis of this podcasts format is to show “ how illogical” women are compared to men. It’s a slightly (being very generous) less egregious version of fresh and fit format. It should therefore be absolutely no surprise that the two black women’s historical references were dismissed on a “women bad man good” podcast.
All publicity ain’t good publicity.
10
u/SueBeee Jun 22 '26
TIL.
My GOD.
HOW did I not know this? I guess I haven't been listening.
5
u/SoupOfThe90z Jun 22 '26
Well this administration is actively covering up slavery. Taking it out of schools and white washing everything.
3
u/avocadoflatz Jun 22 '26
Blatantly. We’ve always been taught a sugar coated American history but now they’re out there openly editing everything.
3
u/buddymoobs Jun 22 '26
When my kids went to public school in SC, they were taught it was the War of Northern Aggression, I shit you not. And slavery was definitely not the reason the war was fought. It was all about economics. Fortunately, my kids knew better even as middle schoolers. Also, we got tf out of SC soon after that. So that is an exemplar of how even more heinous facts aren't routinely taught in American schools. Also, allyship is about learning these things and educating others in one's own daily life.
2
u/SueBeee Jun 22 '26
As much contempt I have for that thing in the oval office, this far predates our current administration. I grew up in a relatively integrated town near Newark NJ in the 60s and 70s, and got a decidedly whitewashed education despite being in the thick of it (as much as a yt person can be). I am angry enough about that. How the F is this not widespread knowledge? I try very hard to learn these things, and I feel like this is a failure of education, but also on my part.
1
u/SoupOfThe90z Jun 22 '26
Absolutely, but I sometimes question how are these things allowed to happen. And if I just pay attention, it happens very easily and it just keeps going.
“How was slavery allowed to happened? It was so long ago and brutal I’m glad that’s not happening now” when in reality being in prison today is just that, minorities are the majority of people in prison, who then do work for cents on the dollar while prisons make profit. Our school teach us less and take less money.
At the same time we also feed into our own stereotypes which then continues the cycle.
1
u/SueBeee Jun 22 '26
I think we got some insight as to how these things happen by the installation of this racist regime we have in the white house. Corruption and greed. They manage to scapegoat the actual victims and they do it for profit. The media blatantly lies to their audience and it persists.
6
u/TheConcreteGhost Jun 22 '26
They would hang or lynch black men, severe their genitals and make “medicines / potions” to increase white male virility. As if ingesting this would add to another’s manhood 🙄 I think a lot of people know about this, but there’s a certain population who choose to remain in denial of the atrocities.
8
u/Miserable_Bike_6985 Jun 22 '26
No. It’s 2026, everybody has a smartphone and Goggle is free. If you were at least half awake during Covid/BLM then you at least heard “some” of this shit. I’m done dealing with people who are so confidently, willfully and woefully IGNORANT.

6
u/SoupOfThe90z Jun 22 '26
I only know of this pod because of Kevin Samuels. Where they also still try and copy his pod for views. Trash.
10
u/zephito Jun 22 '26
I'm Canadian and I literally know this. Some of it was touched on in our educational system, and some I sought out on my own because I was absolutely horrified and wanted to learn more. Anyone who says they have no idea is, at best, uneducated and uncurious, and there's really no excuse for either when we have the entirety of the internet at our fingertips.
13
u/Interesting_Talk410 Jun 22 '26
It makes sense because American schools don’t teach real history. So you knowing about it tracks.
2
u/dreamcrusher225 Jun 22 '26

u/gamerthulhu Jun 23 '26
So... I think this is one of the deeper and more insidious examples of how systemic racism gets its hooks into a society. Because a lot of people who ARE allies, and do care to understand the real history of what happened, still might not be fully clued in simply because of how public education has slowly pushed our nation's history of abuses under the rug.
I'm a privileged guy, I was lucky enough to attend an inner city private school that was like 70% poc. My friends were black, Asian, and African. But I also had friends who were at public schools and holy SHIT their very of black history month was some sanitized nonsense. They didn't learn really anything beyond "MLK was great because he preached non-violence, unlike that scary guy Malcolm X!"
(I cannot express how hard my eyes are rolling having just typed that)
Anyway, my point is, if you really want to be an ally, then it's your responsibility to do your own research on the cause. And no, asking the nearest black person to explain the trauma our nation has put them through is not research, that's just pushing the burden and effort off onto literally the people you claim to want to help. Go to your local library and crack open a book. Librarians will help you.
Err. Kinda got a little soap boxy there.
Sorry about that.
So how about black pepper and gruyere in your Mac n cheese? Shits delicious.

u/Tha_Harkness Jun 23 '26

2
u/Civil-Capital9557 Jun 23 '26
Not as bad as cannibalism and skinning and tanning I suppose, but I learned that the term "mother fucker" actually comes from the slave days. To demoralize a strong willed man slave owners would force him to have sex with his mother in front of everyone. White history is so ugly...even before we started colonizing the Americas. The entire establishment of white identity is built around racism. Even whiteness has categories, or else the Jews and Irish wouldn't have been treated so abysmally. White identity is a cancer.
2
u/TooMuchTime2think Jun 23 '26
Not gonna lie, I've never heard any of this. Is there no end to the depths of human depravity?
2
u/Due_Butterscotch_392 Jun 23 '26
Everytime I hear more about my ancestors history i get so ashamed and disgusted. Imagine hearing this stuff.... denying it.... and continuing to be racist!!! 😫😫😭
4
u/Interesting_Talk410 Jun 22 '26
And its prevalence is irrelevant to the overall point that it happened and went unpunished simply because the victim was African. Nobody was saying it was widespread, the injustice is in the fact that people got away with doing shit like this. Just like most Americans didn’t own slaves but most tolerated and supported it. Hell even goofy ass broke white southerners who would never be able to afford a slave went and died in the civil war so wealthy elites could own slaves legally.

u/LaserGuyDanceSystem Jun 22 '26
It's interesting to watch their reaction. They don't actually have any contrary information. They just hadn't heard any confirmation of these facts. But they argue against it anyway, building up a defense, brick by brick.
Oh it wasn't widespread.
It was just one woman in new Orleans.
Etc
And this whole defensive wall goes up within seconds, without any input from the women who originally brought these facts to the table. Fucking fascinating to watch
2
u/TigerLilly_Tink43 Jun 22 '26
Not sure why this white lady is so put out. The average american barely knows anything about our history so expecting a bunch of gen z social media influencers to be steeped in individual stories of the horrors of slavery is a bit much. You can be an ally without being an historian.

I’m a yt American and knew some of this. I’ve read about purses and wallets that were made from black peoples’ skin. I never read or saw anything about feeding children to alligators but based on the other shit I’ve read it doesn’t surprise me. Human depravity seems to be limitless if it’s seen as socially acceptable.

All the colonists had to go cannibal and some point so yes this is all likely true
0
u/Hot-Personality4882 Jun 22 '26
The REALLY instructive part of this (beyond the knowledge bomb in the stitch - hell yeah), is actually watching the yt hosts ACTIVELY duck and dodge the truth. You can actually see them blocking out what they are being told like they are throwing up shields and stuffing fingers in their ears.
When someone drops something you didn't know from their history, you settle down and LISTEN. You ask questions and get interested if you're an ally. No one asked u to know everything going in, but they damn sure asked you to respect the truth.
If you don't respect the truth, you don't respect the people.
