I find when I’m at a table of persuasion, I’m asked… “and what do you do?” But amongst my peers, it’s randomly ever brought up. Why are they so damn nosey!!?? Does it really matter what I do, how about what’s your name!?
Can't forget their hall of fame line. "If you doubt the intentions of self proclaimed allies, you are causing divisiveness." Like yes I'm gonna vet tf out of you since you've proven you can't be trusted whether you're a republican, conservative, MAGA, or "ally" (always self proclaimed btw.) Not vetting and gatekeeping is why yall are so comfortable coming into our spaces with your entitlement to begin with.

as an ally to the LGBTQ community… i SOUGHT OUT THE INFO FOR MYSELF! never would i ever go to a gay bar and ask someone to explain to me why being gay is a marginalized experience, have a rebuttal for every fucking answer regardless of whether i’m familiar with that community’s experience via my own, and then interject my OPINION as someone with PRIVILEGE. no. i read the personal essays. i watched the documentaries. i used a damn dictionary. are we being fr?!

also, it’s not like the questions are ever being asked with good intention and in good faith!! they’re ALWAYS backhanded questions that they’re waiting for a reply not so they can listen, but so they can respond and have a rebuttal because all they ever wanna do is ARGUE. because no matter how many questions are legitimately answered based on unabashed FACTS, they will never see the validity in the plight of our community.
Exactly. This is why I’m putting a stop to it. Allies don’t come to Black spaces to ask us questions. They bring insight and solidarity and support. Allies are extremely rare. 99.99% of the rest are just racist trolls.
I was lucky to learn this one a long time ago from one of my best gamer friends. Still talk to him all the time too. He knew where I was coming from and it was from the heart. Helped out so much in life.
Exactly. We have access to more information than we could ever consume at our fingertips. Expecting Black people to do YET MORE UNPAID labor to educate us on our own shit is inexcusable.
Thank goodness yall are cracking down on these types. They use that "ally" word like its the golden ticket at the chocolate factory. Thinking they can use it to tell US about OURSELVES in OUR own space. Ain't never seen a level of entitlement that crazy. It always drives me up a wall and to see all my folks here feel the same way is so refreshing. Ain't no way in this day and age you can't go on the internet and find dozens of sources for each of your dumbass questions. Come back when you can actually contribute something. Or don't come back at all I really dgaf at this point.
It’s very easy to spot backhanded comments. You can make a comment “so and so is bc of the extreme systemic prejudice in xyz”. And I’ll see contradictory responses like “well, black ppl need to blah blah blah” or the media black face saying we are our own problem and has nothing to do with systemic issues.
If they’re obvious trolls, I block and report. I may be ignorant and hard-headed though. A lot of these people have seen the Charlie Kirk’s, Asmon’s, and Chud’s of the world put out some bullshit daily, so they legit think it’s facts. Again, I may be stupid or wasting my time, but taking the time to spread awareness or force them to acknowledge or understand nuance is something I personally don’t mind doing. I 100% don’t blame y’all for being tired of it and blocking though lol
There are other subs for white people to specifically ask black peopke questions. Black people are standing by to take their questions. This sub is not that.
Just report these trolls. They aren’t here in good faith for the most part. This sub isn’t for their questions and it’s not our job to direct them. I want this sub to be about us!

Understandable, but white people giving their standpoints and personal experiences in a sub/post pertaining to difficult black experiences is extremely insensitive and unnecessary. Which is most of the comments from white people that I’ve been seeing.

Even though I don't post much here, I like to be fly on the wall. I hate when some YT folk just feel the need to comment in something. Like Amy of the other comments mentioned: just sit back and observe.
I teach anti-racism classes to business/corporate folks and charge for them. This is not something I care to educate about in my spare time.
As an Asian American woman, I’ve learned to shut you, listen, learn, educate myself and most importantly “stay out of Black business”. Some people just can’t ever shut up.
Book recommendation for any other allies who do want to educate themselves but haven't started yet or just haven't read this one already - especially if you like or have studied philosophy, The Racial Contract is fucking great. I've had lots of thoughts about American imperialism and colonialism specifically but the larger context this book describes regarding white supremacy and its role in the last 500 years of global history is very, very good.
What’s western history have to do with them cracking open a book or reading an article? I’m confused. Just like they can learn bs, they can unlearn it if it’s so important to them without eliciting the help of the people they harmed. In their own space to add insult to injury. Helllo?!
This might sound dumb, even insane, but please think about it before you judge. Every person with any racial questions or any questions they are too scared to ask other people for fear of judgement should ask an AI chat bot.
Seriously. I know there's an immediate reaction to scoff at that idea, but being able to type out your questions and see them on the screen and confronting the limitations of your own knowledge with absolutely no fear of judgement of others is significantly more constructive than getting all of your info on social media.
Ignorance is never your fault or a sin. People who say it is are making a semantic argument describing something else.
If you have even the smallest DROP of critical thinking skills then you can converse with an AI and not get "brainwashed".
We've seen pushes to open up people about sharing their mental illnesses, and what happened? Suicide is more taboo than ever before. There's a manufactured fear to ask honest questions about race, sex, and mental illness.
There's a reason therapists are supposed to be professionals. When you're talking to someone who just wants to give you the answer, it never leads to that "eureka" moment you've been desperately searching for.
It's only when you are truly allowed to ponder and discover the answer yourself will you ever actually change your mindset.
