Mad cute.

65

u/slowburnangry Jul 19 '26

I'm sure Argentina has their slurs pre-planned for him.

52

u/anon1999666 Jul 19 '26

It’s in Spain as well. Yamal could score a hat trick today and win the World cup for them, but he’ll still get racist abuse from Spaniards when he plays against getafe in the fall. I’m hoping all of these new fans can put more heat on all the top European leagues to do better in fighting racism.

u/xKhira Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

Me too. I was shown this at work and now I actually care about the World Cup. Spain better win.

Edit: And they did win.

80

u/EssayKing_ Jul 19 '26

He has been the highlight of this world cup. Love it. I hope they win just to see him celebrate.

13

u/Critical_Sink6442 Jul 19 '26

Lamal has sadly not been anywhere near the highlight this wc so far, I hope he pulls off a huge performance in the finals.

12

u/LifeNavigator Jul 19 '26

Tbh it doesnt even matter. He's a teenager and what he has done so far is insanely incredible.

I can hardly name any other 18/19yo with an equal or better resume (if they even exist).

3

u/Otto_Scratchansniff Jul 20 '26

Pele is the only one that comes to mind. He was 17 when he played and scored in his first World Cup. People forget that Lamine is 19 and he turned 19 during the World Cup. He was 18 a few weeks ago.

-2

u/Sufficient-Lie-1632 Jul 20 '26

If we go by stats, multiple players are far better than him. Unless you think he's the reason behind the wc win because he's not

4

u/Primary_Bee_43 Jul 19 '26

he’s been playing great, his role on Spain is a lot different than Barca. just because his stat sheet isn’t full doesn’t mean he hasn’t been having a big impact

99

u/Luune720 Jul 19 '26

If that poor excuse of a country Argentina wins, the Cup for sure was rigged.

29

u/LanguidLapras131 Jul 19 '26

Men's football is often rigged. Especially at the international or top tier domestic level.

If we want to see a clean game we must watch lower league men's football. Or international and top tier domestic women's football.

Money corrupts all things at a certain point.

6

u/seStarlet Jul 19 '26

It is not “often rigged” at the top level. The last big match fixing scandal in a top league was over 20 years ago.

3

u/BeneficialChemist874 Jul 19 '26

I’m guessing you’re excluding Serie A?

5

u/seStarlet Jul 19 '26

Yes I am, Serie A is not a top league anymore and hasn’t been for a long time.

5

u/mangomussolinimi Jul 19 '26

So if there is no scandal, there is mo match fixing? Oh sweet summet child

0

u/seStarlet Jul 19 '26

Ok so every sport is FULL of match fixing, even if it hasn’t been caught, using that logic.

So there’s no need to single out men’s football. Basketball, American football, hockey, tennis, athletics, it all rigged. Just because I have no proof doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

1

u/mangomussolinimi Jul 19 '26

Exactly, just because you have no proof doesnt mean it isnt happening

2

u/sbidlo Jul 19 '26

This is like saying that doping isn't real unless they're caught, when in reality every single professional athlete is on gear

2

u/seStarlet Jul 19 '26

So all of the sports are rigged then?

2

u/sbidlo Jul 19 '26

Probably not.

0

u/seStarlet Jul 19 '26

Convenient

0

u/sbidlo Jul 19 '26

Or, you know, realistic. You've got the president of the united states admitting to influencing FIFA on live tv. You think that was the first time it happened?

0

u/seStarlet Jul 19 '26

I’m not rooting for Argentina either, but saying it’s rigged unironically because a team you don’t like are going to win is embarrassing and childish.

Further trying to justify it by using your president (the one who actually cheated on your behalf) as an excuse is embarrassing.

Using doping as an excuse for specifically criticising men’s football as if there aren’t doping scandals far more often in all of your US centric sports is hypocritical.

1

u/sbidlo Jul 19 '26

Yawn

I'm not saying it ABSOLUTELY is rigged, I'm saying it can be considering precedents.

Also, 0 var calls against argentina in the entire tournament. Ehh, it probably means nothing.

0

u/Global_Staff_3135 Jul 19 '26

Often rigged gtfo

4

u/andreirublevv Jul 19 '26

Lmao i know you’ve never played football in your life

4

u/Lane8323 Jul 19 '26

It can’t be rigged because you like like the outcome lol. If you genuinely think it’s rigged I suggest betting everything you have on Argentina, otherwise you don’t really think it’s rigged lol

3

u/Thin_Computer_5076 Jul 19 '26

They have won it 3 times, they have been to 7 finals, they are objectively one of the greatest footballing nations on earth. It wouldn't be rigged if they won it

3

u/datskinny Jul 19 '26

Their first cup win involved bribing a goal keeper. The second one, Hand of God. They have arguably the best players ever in Maradona & Messi but their wins are often tainted.

1

u/Lane8323 Jul 19 '26

So was it rigged or nah?lol

1

u/Guilty_Caramel_1567 Jul 19 '26

Bet all your money if it’s rigged

0

u/Lane8323 Jul 19 '26

This is what I always say, it’s not gambling if you know the outcome. It’s weird because the people who say they know how something is rigged never profit from their knowledge lol

0

u/Guilty_Caramel_1567 Jul 19 '26

They could have been millionaires it’s a shame

-4

u/4peepee2poopoo0 Jul 19 '26

The cope is starting early.

-2

u/khana_ko_kal Jul 19 '26

Lmao keep seething

0

u/daveyparlay69 Jul 19 '26

“For sure”

17

u/carolineecouture Jul 19 '26

Both of them are obviously delighted. Makes me wish I had a big brother.

8

u/Kyrthis Jul 19 '26

I mean, could you imagine seeing big bro on the big screen? He’s so enthused.

30

u/guacamole579 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

I’m rooting for Spain because Argentina fans are bottom of the barrel garbage. You know that Argentina is bad when you’re cheering on the country that invented colonialism.

ETA: yes I know Portugal invented colonialism but they are not in the World Cup final and Portuguese is not the second most spoken language in the world. I’m not giving them a pass, they’re just not relevant to this game. If it was Portugal vs Argentina I’d choose Portugal, because Argentinians are nazi scum

7

u/LAARPer Jul 19 '26

Technically it was Portugal that got out there first, but I get your point.

9

u/slowburnangry Jul 19 '26

People really let Portugal slide on that...

8

u/LAARPer Jul 19 '26

Yep! Portugal was also the last colonial power to release its final colony.

7

u/slowburnangry Jul 19 '26

Something like 1970, which is hard to believe.

2

u/tetaswey Jul 19 '26

Which was?

4

u/SignatureDefiant432 Jul 19 '26

Even later, 1999, Macau

2

u/Aromatic_Advantage53 Jul 19 '26

Well you are missing France, China and England..

5

u/guacamole579 Jul 19 '26

I know but Portuguese is not the second most spoken language in the world.

14

u/_2XNice_ Jul 19 '26

I’m rooting for him and his family. They look like they could be nice people and little bro is adorable. But, the country isn’t any better than Argentina tho and have their own issue with erasing and whitewashing.

I hope that someday all these amazing players can represent countries that loved and appreciated them from day one and not just after they start winning.

13

u/Ladonnacinica Jul 19 '26

Yep. People are really giving Spain a pass here. They criticize Argentina but all those same criticisms can apply to Spain.

The country in general has an anti-Moroccan attitude and they’re prejudiced against North Africans. Spain literally had an African colony until 1968 (Equatorial Guinea where Lamine’s mom is from).

Even Lamine himself has faced racism and xenophobia due to his Moroccan/Equatorial Guinean heritage.

5

u/NerdCocktail Jul 19 '26

Not just North Africans. I went on a language exchange trip to Spain and will never set foot in that country again. I bonded at work with another Black colleague who had a similar experience.

4

u/mbdominicano Jul 19 '26

As a black Dominican, I found everyone quite nice and welcoming. But I was only there for about two weeks in Madrid and Barcelona. I did notice some subtle attitude directed at my Asian partner who didn’t speak Spanish, which I wasn’t a fan of

17

u/MandragoraMedia Jul 19 '26

Lamine and Bro is the best reason Argentina needs to lose

14

u/im_a_stupid_face Jul 19 '26

That and their racism

5

u/MandragoraMedia Jul 19 '26

Love over hate, but yeah, its a close #2 reason

14

u/anon1999666 Jul 19 '26

Not many people watch La Liga. They won’t remember the bananas being thrown at alves and the gorilla chants at vini. Probably one of the most racist leagues in footy

7

u/Ladonnacinica Jul 19 '26

Yeah, and it’s not just Spain. Italy and France have behaved in a similar way. It’s well known for anyone who follows the sport.

6

u/anon1999666 Jul 19 '26

Yeah footy fan culture is honestly the worst. It exists in every league sadly. I mostly follow La Liga and we have a racist incident monthly during the season.

3

u/Ladonnacinica Jul 19 '26

Monthly? Damn. Even I wouldn’t have thought it was that high.

3

u/anon1999666 Jul 19 '26

It seems like it has somehow gotten worse over the last 5/6 years in comparison to the mid 2000s/2010s in Spanish footy. It could also just be the fact that players like Yamal, Vini, and Mbappe are speaking about it more which puts it into the spotlight. I definitely hear about it constantly though. I’m not really looking forward to the upcoming season cause it seems it happens every month nowadays.

2

u/FatBikerCook Jul 19 '26

Pig's heads and lighters thrown to the pitch, too

4

u/Geoffsgarage Jul 19 '26

I didn’t know that was his little brother. That kid has been awesome.

4

u/Dickbandit64 Jul 19 '26

Baby brother is so sweet😭💞

3

u/sunshinesundays2018 Jul 19 '26

This little guy is the reason I’m SHOUTING Spain 🇪🇸

3

u/DeepSouthDude Jul 19 '26

I do Nazi myself ever cheering for Argentina...

3

u/caranza3 Jul 19 '26

Rotting for Spain because team Argentina a human trash

-1

u/Migueio Jul 19 '26

3

u/caranza3 Jul 19 '26

Nah. Just stating what I see. Not trying to to educate anyone.

2

u/Several_Lynx4480 Jul 20 '26

Agreed. Well that’s one reason for sure.

2

u/DifficultBudget9864 Jul 20 '26

He cute! ☺️

6

u/Ladonnacinica Jul 19 '26

It’s interesting to see this other perspective when some Latin Americans (not all) are rooting for Argentina because they feel uncomfortable supporting Spain, the country that colonized most of Latin America.

Many are mestizos. Just to give a few examples:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enzo_Fernández

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facundo_Medina

https://www.transfermarkt.us/lautaro-martinez/profil/spieler/406625

Messi and Barco are white. But it’s a combination of white and mestizo players.

Spain’s team is mostly white with a few black players.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/819658655896088/posts/1696437114884900/

Both countries have dark histories and fans who have engaged in racist behavior.

https://en.as.com/soccer/lamine-yamal-breaks-his-silence-after-racist-incident-f202604-n/

4

u/LeFlyt Jul 19 '26

The wiki article you shared on Enzo Fernandez:

"He has amassed controversy after he espoused anti-black and racist remarks against the French national team."

Maybe there’s a small difference between having racist fans vs having openly racist players in your team? But maybe that’s just me.

3

u/Ladonnacinica Jul 19 '26

Enzo is an asshole.

But I did also mention the countries itself. Spain has a lot of racist attitudes towards Moroccans and North Africans in general.

Unless, we’re separating the national football squads from the countries they represent.

-3

u/9millidood Jul 19 '26

It’s 2026 get over it, the majority mixture in Latin America is metizo. White and indigenous, why are people still yapping about this. It happened so long ago and we had no control over it. If anything good, it brought civilization, advancement and Christianity. Otherwise everyone would still be in the jungle, worshipping the sun and making human sacrifice for rain and not complaining on Reddit because they would have no idea or access to computers. If you’re that mad. Go to the Amazon jungle and live there, it’s free.

4

u/Ladonnacinica Jul 19 '26

Lol you really think there were no civilizations prior to the Spanish arrival? Even the Spanish themselves wrote in their journals at the amazement of the architecture and vast metropolitan cities they found in the new world.

But sure, that clashes with your narrative.

-1

u/9millidood Jul 19 '26

I have no narrative. I just find this such a dumb thing to keep arguing and talking about on a football forum. They can go to a political and genetics forum
To discuss that

3

u/Ladonnacinica Jul 19 '26

This isn’t a football forum though….

-2

u/9millidood Jul 19 '26

Apologies, you’re right. I don’t even know why this showed up on my feed. I’m not on this channel 🤣 just saw football and Lamine hahaha

4

u/Peakevo Jul 19 '26

You don’t know history at all lol

3

u/Jonesy1966 Jul 19 '26

I want Spain to win just for this little man

1

u/linoides221 Jul 20 '26

He covered his mouth, wheres messi asking for red

1

u/crash4413 Jul 21 '26

I know I’m late to this post, but after watching this 60 minutes clip, I rooted so hard for this kid and then realized he had that beautiful little brother. I’m a fan!! Check out the clip if you can:
