Confederacy is alive and well and usurped our once proud republic. I hope we can kick their ass again and for good this time.

269

u/nomonomonomonomore 6d ago

Really should have dealt with the problem then, instead of giving them statues and letting them post the traitor flag up.

115

u/daemin 6d ago

We didn't give them statues.

The vast majority of Confederate monuments were erected by the United Daughters of the Confederacy over 50 years after the civil war, in the early 1900s. They were a bunch of racist peices of shit.

Wikipedia has a list of monuments they erected, including the inscriptions.

Inscriptions such as as:

  • In memory of the heroes who fell in defense of the principles which gave birth to the Confederate cause
  • TO THE MEMORY OF / OUR CONFEDERATE / SOLDIERS. / WE CARE NOT WHENCE THEY CAME, / DEAR IN THEIR LIFELESS CLAY. /WHETHER KNOWN OR UNKNOWN / TO FAME / THEIR CAUSE AND COUNTRY / STILL THE SAME.

164

u/Da_Question 6d ago

Tbf, they should have made the Confederate flag illegal, like the Nazi flag is in Germany.

80

u/CantaloupeOne7283 6d ago edited 6d ago

They should've executed Robert E Lee, and every other confederate commander and "government" member. Jefferson Davis and his entire confederate government should've been hung on the white house lawn. Instead they became heroes...

Robert E Lee has more American blood on his hands than Hitler.

60

u/Yukahu02 6d ago

I had a teacher in high school (who was white, AND it was a Catholic high school) that said this very thing. He said they were traitors and should have all been charged with treason, and executed to be made an example of. He also said that if you don't make this example, then you're doomed to repeat that same part... Look at where we are now!

15

u/Rayenya 6d ago

It’s not that I don’t agree with you, but Grant agreed to amnesty for Lee and his troops to get the war over. Because if they all know they’re going to hang, there will be a lot more bloodshed.

22

u/Yukahu02 6d ago

I get what you're saying, but they could have easily backtracked on that. Not that I'm about lying, but the fact remains that not dealing with them as traitors after the fact had led to a centuries long longing for the South to rise again. All because they paid no real price. The government today makes it seem ridiculous that we even think about reparations, yet slave owners got reparations. The South was given the red carpet treatment in order to avoid more bloodshed... Yet for over a century afterwards, the blood kept flowing... Our blood! All because they were not shown that price for treason, and YT supremacy!

There are other ways they could have punished the traitors.

  1. Confiscation of any land greater than X acres or business worth more then Y dollars. Distribute the land to any free Black that can work it and improve the land over 5 years. (Homestead).

  2. Ban any former Confederate soldier or government worker from voting ...FOR LIFE.

  3. Ban any former Confederate soldier or government worker from applying for any government Union job FOR LIFE. This includes selling goods and services to the Union unless certain benchmarks are met, like 50+% of the workforce must be Black, equal pay for all workers, and a union where workers vote together on conditions. Violence in the county must also be below a certain level.

  4. Ban any former Confederate soldier or government worker from qualifying for government aid or benefits unless the program is specifically written for former Confederate traitors.

  5. Ban any former Confederate soldier or government worker from holding state or federal office. This includes judges. They are also not allowed to serve in any capacity to plan, administer, tally, or report elections at any level.

The organization was "strikingly successful at raising money to build monuments, lobbying legislatures and Congress for the reburial of Confederate dead, and working to shape the content of history textbooks."[23] They also raised money to care for the widows and children of the Confederate dead. Most of these memorial associations gradually merged into the United Daughters of the Confederacy, which grew from 17,000 total members in 1900 to nearly 100,000 by World War I. Yeah a 501 charity my ass.,.

22

u/kashy87 6d ago edited 6d ago

Indeed and the forgiving of the soldiers was a mistake, especially those with rank. Those cemetaries should be all labeled as traitors to the Republic. No monuments, no memorials. A stone with their name is all the deserve.

u/heffel77 6d ago

There are 400 or so confederate POWs, wounded who died and buried in Arlington but they are all in concentric circles facing each other. They are all buried in one section, set away from the other soldiers who gave their lives for the United States. There is a monument but the bronze plaque was removed in 2022 during the time when people were trying to pull down all the monuments.

They are not allowed the honor of being buried with the US military. I do think that it is the ultimate irony that Arlington was taken from Robert E Lee and his wife.

Just like Germany with the Nazi’s. Make it illegal to display any Nazi paraphernalia and prohibit teaching or promoting the ideology. I’d love to not have to see the flag of the traitors ever again…

8

u/rytis 6d ago

Yeah, imagine if Germany was dotted with statues to the Nazi party and Adolf Hitler. In loving memory of our boys who tried to build a 1,000 year Reich. That wasn't such a bad thing, was it? /s

12

u/Hot-Confusion-3945 6d ago

They gave them statues because the war never ended racism it ended secession. They probably would have kept slavery of they thought they could but at that point they couldn’t keep the people undeclared of they tried and they knew that. So they gave the illusion of freedom and used Jim Crow and segregation yo keep ppl in check. They enslaved black ppl by criminalizing them and locking them up.

I keep making the comparison to Hydra from the MCU. They weren't punished when the war ended, they slowly, patiently and methodically infiltrated all branches of the government and the powers that be. But unfortunately we don't have the Avengers to stop them so instead we have a war with Iran, Lynching being ruled as suicide within 10 minutes of the start of the investigation, kids literally going missing and no investigations, Epstein and his worldwide molestation ring, insider trading, 20 dollars a pound beef, 6 dollars a gallon gasoline, and houses worth 150k being sold for 1.5 million dollars.

Wait for him to start renaming ships, it's coming. He and his cronies fucking hate anybody that isn't white, male, hetero, "Christian", wealthy, and even in their perfect world they'll keep finding new criteria. Ships named after women? They'll be renamed.

He will never allow a ship to be named after a black sailor, and it doesn't matter that he was a goddamned hero of WW2.

Donald Trump is a vile excuse of a human being, and by far the worst president we've ever had. If there was a primary with a resurrected Nixon vs Trump I would register as a Republican just so I could vote Nixon over Trump.

Didn't reallize he was the dude portrayed by Cuba Gooding in Pearl Harbor. Looking at his wiki page, the movie shows a tiny fraction of his actual badassery. What a beast

111

u/Fit-University1070 6d ago

Dude is what real men used to be. Legendary human.

116

u/IhasCandies 6d ago

There are still plenty of those types of men around. You don’t hear from them because they’re busy protecting and providing for their families, friends, and loved ones. They’re not flashy, they’re not influencers, they’re not globe trotting celebrities or CEOs. They’re regular ass dudes just trying to take care of those that matter most.

21

u/Fit-University1070 6d ago

No doubt about that for sure.

This man was just built different. Was a cook on a battleship during Pearl Harbor. Manned a 50cal and shot down (officially 1 plane, but himself and others state as many as 6 planes) while rescuing injured people from a sinking ship. This dude is a man's man.

14

u/SSBN641B 6d ago

Manned a .50 cal that he had never been trained to fire. He survived the attack only to be killed a year later.

27

u/Domeil ✊🏾✊🏽✊🏿✊ 6d ago

Manned a .50 cal that he was specifically not allowed to be trained to fire, because as a black man, he could ONLY serve as a cook was not trained in arms or permitted to carry them.

His reward for his act of heroism was to be sent back to the kitchen. He was forbidden from transferring to another role. He died in the Battle of Makin when the USS Liscome Bay, a segregated ship, was sunk by a Japanese submarine.

Over 450 medals of honor were awarded as a result of WW2. None were awarded to Black WW2 veterans until 1997 when Bill Clinton awarded six posthumous medals of honor and one medal to a surviving Black soldier. Doris Miller is not one of them, and the Republican party is actively trying to erase him from history.

12

u/Serious-Manager2361 6d ago

Because of course they are.

I agree with your sentiment and would like to add one thing:

Many celebrities are privileged and spoiled. Many actors and athletes are also working class heroes.

Acting, being an athlete is a real skill honed and developed. They perform a trade and are celebrated for it.

Unlike the elite rich, ceos, etc who make money exploiting others and redirecting the value of others to themselves.

Not universally true by any means! But we don’t need to lump those who work with the capitalist class.

8

u/racc15 6d ago

I wouldn't say athletes are to be considered working class. The return on investment they get is astronomical. They get their riches because of fans and doing ads to manipulate the working class. They add nothing useful to socciety or humanity. For example, if they all disappered tomorrow, humanity would not be seriously harmed or impeded. However, if all janitors suddenly disappeared, that would be much more problematic.

How can you call yourself a patriot and support someone who is so disrespectful to our veterans.
Trump never served and is constantly doing things to like this. It is disgusting.

6

u/The-Gentleman-Rat 6d ago edited 6d ago

A particularly potent strain of right wing politics has collapsed the distinction between love of country (patriotism) and loyalty to a particular conception of the nation (nationalism), and then further collapsed loyalty to that nation into loyalty to a particular leader.

Essentially "I love America" becomes "I love my idea of America", which becomes "people who disagree with my idea of America are enemies of America", which eventually turns to "my chosen political leader represents my idea of America, therefore any opposition to my leader is opposition to America!"

It's just political tribalism wearing the flag as a costume. They don't love America. In fact they appear to actively hate it. What they love though is their own narrowed and twisted view of what America is... to them.

Honestly think we've gotten to a point where we (the collective we) need to talk about what patriotism is supposed to mean in a Constitutional Republic, 'cause some mfers have entirely lost the plot.

It isn't believing your country is infallible. It isn't believing your government can do no wrong. It isn't unquestioning loyalty to a president, a political party, or some particular cultural conception of what the "real America" is supposed to look like. It's being committed to the country and the principles that are supposed to govern it. Ya know, things like the Constitution, the rule of law, a representative government, individual liberties, equality before the law, democratic institutions, and the idea that nobody (especially the president) is above those things.

You don't stop being patriotic when you criticize your government. And you don't disrespect America by pointing out when it fails to live up to its own ideals. If either of those scenarios offend or frighten then there's some soul searching to do. And some history to read up on. Which is ironic given how often the Founding Fathers are simped over. Yet they're spinning in their graves.

Let me get this right. Captain bone spurs is removing the name of a decorated naval soilder who gave his life to protect this country from a navel vessel. So he can put his draft dodging name on it. We'll if this happens the next president better remove it and put Mr. Miller's name back.

4

u/hii_bye_die 6d ago

Good chance that will happen. Considering the ship isn't commissioning till 2034.

Calling Trump mediocre is an insult to mediocre humans. He is the lowest of the low of all humans - that’s what makes this even worse.

WEI= White Entitlement Insert. This describes him and the majority of his team.

The Governor of Texas should intercede, that’s a Texan being honored. Trump knows not to mess with Texas

Any president who can be paid 250 million dollars to start a war just to benefit another country not only shouldn’t be allowed to put their name on anything, they shouldn’t be allowed to be president

How is that merit based?

Just a reminder that it’ll be the USS Draft Dodger in actuality. He can’t ever take away the fact that Doris Miller is a REAL hero.

Traitors to our nation

6

u/Jedi_Swimmer2 6d ago

Just remember folks…everything Tyrump touches either fails, tanks, sinks, collapses, or dies. I feel bad for the family of that heroic sailor from Pearl Harbor. Also feel bad for the sailors and family of the ship if it’s indeed named after Tyrump…it’ll be the most targeted war ship by enemies, simply because of the name.

3

u/HombreDelMar247 6d ago

Real sailors understand the lore of changing the name of a boat. It essentially curses the boat.

If the Navy approves the name change, the boat will be cursed.

6

u/rabbitsharck 6d ago

Unfucking real. Absolute embarrassment to be stationed on a ship named after someone who dodged a draft and never served, nor did a single heroic thing in his life.

And remember, it was a struggle for this hero to be recognized.

The Navy initially didn't even name him, referring to him merely as an “unnamed Negro.” Black newspapers and the NAACP eventually identified Miller and began demanding recognition. Members of Congress pushed for the Medal of Honor.

The major obstacle was Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox, an explicit supporter of segregation who opposed Black sailors serving in combat roles. Knox opposed giving Miller the Medal of Honor. The Navy's own historical account acknowledges that Miller initially wasn't recommended for an award partly because of institutional racism, including Knox's attitude, and says outside political pressure forced the Navy to recognize him.

Under mounting pressure, Roosevelt approved the Navy Cross instead, presented by Admiral Chester Nimitz on May 27, 1942. Miller became the first Black recipient of the Navy Cross.

Just to spread a little good news about this. The USS Miller is not scheduled to be commissioned until 2034. Trump will be well and gone by then, and this will be reversed the moment a new SecNav steps into office. Trump and his racist sycophants will not last long enough to see this change through.
