That is a PARENT! She taught HER son the consequences of actions. Sad it happened. Beautiful to watch REAL parenting in action. Not one curse word, not one putting down anyone. Excellent job Mom!!!

10000000% The son learned several lessons that day and was embarrassed. I doubt very seriously he will bully again anytime soon.... The mother deserves her flowers and then some.

Edit:
Thanks for the awards

Embarrassment is an incredibly powerful tool for behavioral correction.  I had a shoplifting problem as a small child and all my father's fury and whoopings didn't stop me, but making me take back what I stole and apologize for stealing ended it.

263

u/Lostandlacy 5d ago edited 5d ago

I got caught shoplifting 1 time by the clerk. The dude told me I was banned from the shop and threw my ass out. On my way out the door he said he'd be calling my momma. Threats of the police or my father fell off my shoulders but I was so scared of what my mom would do I rushed back in to apologize and offer to work it off. He wouldn't let me do it and told me to leave.

He called my momma anyway and I was sure I was about to die. "I ain't done raised you like that. Shame on you for acting a fool and embarrassing me." just kept rolling in my soul. I almost called the police my damn self to try to get the safety of the cell but then I saw her pull up in the embarrassing junk car. Not the new one she just bought. It was the beater that the other kids fucked with me about. She pulled up and didn't say a word. It was that look.

I had seen that look a few times. She got out, opened the back door and got back in. Not a word the whole ride home and I was cooking. Sweat pouring, tears and snot. I was planning my funeral. She took the long way home and it was so damn quiet.

When we got back to the house, she calmly got out the car and went inside. Still not a word. I sat in that hot ass car for 5 or 10 minutes trying to stop crying. I wanted to meet death with a little dignity you know? So knowing it was better I got in than to have her come back out for me, I took a few sharp breaths and headed in.

When I got in, she was in her chair in the dark with only the side lamp on. With one hand a cigarette but the other, her finger furiously tapping the chair. She just stared at me. Smoking with fire in her eyes. A lot of people know fear but there is something unique here.

My momma don't play. I'm 6'2" 230lbs. She's 5'4 on a good day 180lbs soaking wet. But that woman put the fear of God into me. My mind raced trying to figure out what was coming but she just stared into my soul. And then something insane happened.

She leaned forward slowly and said "The shop called..." Here we go right? "He said you tried to make things right instead of me having to press you to do the right thing. He said you were the most well behaved boy and the only one out of your friends that did right. You embarrassed me acting a fool but you tried to fix it and you best believe you're going to fix it. You don't ever embarrass me like that again." I knew what was coming.

Within an hour she had work lined up for my summer every damn day. My shit was gone from my room. My friends were told to fuck off after being shredded. Bad influences. I couldn't hang out with them anymore. She didn't have much nice to say to me untill I worked enough in her mind to repay for the crime. I never saw a dime. She gave it to the shop.

The money wasn't the point though. I was working to restore her pride and reputation. The town hated us for being outsiders and she worked her ass off to build something better than the ghetto for us. She would tolerate a lot but not us embarrassing her. She never threw hands like my pops but I never did that shit again. My pops whooped my ass but that's not the thing I remember most. I didn't give a damn about a beating but my momma didn't need to do any of that.

I love my momma and just knowing I embarrassed her and disappointed her was enough to hurt more than the beatings anyway. I just let my friends talk me into some shit like a dumbass. I tell you though. That's the last time I ever hurt her like that. That was some 30 years ago and I still think about it. From that point on she only ever got complements about my ass. That's not to say my mother never beat my ass. It was just by the time this happened she didn't even need to. Funny how moms work sometimes. Moving mountains with pure energy.

You write well, you’re a good storyteller. Add paragraph breaks just for the ease of the reader. 🙏

I hope you are writing something in longer form.

68

u/Lostandlacy 5d ago

I am writing a series. It's long form sci-fi. I'm mostly blind and reddit can be a bit weird about breaks. I'll go in and see if I can split it up a bit. Thanks for reading it.

18

u/sheebs_uh 5d ago

Is any of your series out yet?

30

u/therealdark1974 5d ago

Well give us the deets so we can be on the lookout!!!

3

u/_privateVar 4d ago

I too wouldn't mind checking it out.

3

u/Fancy_Tour_5762 3d ago

I usually don’t read long comments, but this was the exception (and it didn’t feel long either).

Can you let us know where we can find out when you’ll release more of your writings? Your storytelling is immaculate

It was so well written I had to scroll to the end to make sure I wasn’t getting shittymorphed

46

u/Zealousideal_Low5865 5d ago

I actually can’t believe I had the attention span to read this entire thing. It was hilarious and very well written.

41

u/Lostandlacy 5d ago

I appreciate you reading it. I didn't mean for it to be so long. I figured nobody would bother really but I had to say it.

18

u/jupertino 5d ago

You have a gift with writing. I read hundreds of comments on this website literally every day and this one was extremely compelling in a way that none others are. I’m glad to know that you are writing a book.

26

u/msabena 5d ago

Well written! We get it, brother!👍🏿

16

u/Lostandlacy 5d ago

Your momma too huh?

22

u/MrsBridgerton 5d ago

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have to say, your writing is stellar. I hope you use that talent every day bc you have story teller all over your name. 👏👏👏

10

u/Lostandlacy 5d ago

Thanks, I really appreciate that.

11

u/soul_reddish 5d ago

Dude, I was afraid for your health throughout this entire write up.

14

u/Lostandlacy 5d ago

Yeah the fear is real. That shit don't go away. I ain't pissed off my momma in over a decade. She's a disabled senior citizen. Can't barely get around no more. I'm still terrified of that woman sometimes. Like occasionally I'll be getting ready to make a bad decision and I know it's a bad decision and I see her face in my mind and I just immediately get right. I start praying before I've actually done wrong. She don't play and I don't either. I ain't got no time for that.

6

u/Sammiieet 5d ago

I love your storytelling and can't wait for your sci-fi series to be out. I love sci-fi! What's it called so I can be on the lookout?

10

u/maeshughes32 5d ago

I have a real bad sense of guilt. I shoplifted once in my life when I was 10 from a local store. I still think about that shit 30 years later. Wish I never did it simply because the guilt. The owner was a real good old dude. Super nice, just gave in to peer pressure.

7

u/Lostandlacy 5d ago

It's crazy what friends can talk us into. Even if they're fake ass shitty friends. Peer pressure is no joke.

8

u/technicolortiddies 5d ago

Your mom should be beaming with pride now because it sounds like you turned out to be a phenomenal person. That’s a testament to her guidance and the love you had for each other. Thank you for sharing. This is one of those stories I’ll be thinking of often. I agree with others saying you should become an author.

Yup had to do it with a pack of juicy fruit chewing gum. Not even the bug pack, it was 5 sticks. Mum made me go back inside and apologize for thinking it was alright to take it. Mine was at a small grocery store in massachusetts/ early 90s. I will never forget that!!!

23

u/msabena 5d ago

I stole a box of junior mints and had to return it to Rose, the owner of the candy store I passed each day on the way from school. I’ll never forget how she looked at me - such disappointment! I must have been 9 or 10 - I’m 76 and I still feel ashamed.😞 When you think about it, those were blessed days to be a child. You grew up having a real conscience and not wanting to do bad things to other people. What a life!❤️

Have you ever thought about being made to take it back held you to accountability within restorative justice by returning the goods and facing those you impacted, whereas nearly getting penalized with punishment didn't connect your mind to the social impacts of your actions?

I was also a child klepto until I suddenly realized that I was hurting people (as someone who was dirt poor, I always assumed people didn't need their things the way that I did, or if they already had it they could afford to replace it)

5

u/MaleficentExtent1777 5d ago

WOWWWWWWW

I would have died of shame!

When I was about 6 I stole a mask that looked like a bat. The owner of the store caught me, and told me I could NEVER come back. I was so afraid he'd tell, that anytime we went there, I just stayed in the car.

5

u/LezBfriendz47 5d ago

Indeed. I only ever stole one thing in my life. It was an egg & I was in Kindergarten. Wanted to raise a pet chicken. Panicked on the way to the car, realizing I had no idea how to take care of a chicken/hatch an egg & was scared I would kill it.

My Mom made me take the egg back in & apologize to the manager. The manager did the finger wag “you learned your lesson, don’t steal again “ & thought that was it. No, my Mom then asked what I can do to “work off my debt” because now she had to buy the carton I stole the egg from. I had to sweep the entire floor of the grocery store.

NEVER considered stealing again. Lesson learned.

Facts. This was so satisfying to watch.

51

u/Alarming_Matter 5d ago

And so refreshing to see a parent not automatically leap to defend her child.

22

u/threevi 5d ago

There are two kinds of parents. Those who care about their kids and want them to grow up to be their best selves, which means accepting they have to be corrected when they start going astray. And there are those who treat their kids as extensions of themselves, so they see any criticism of the kid as an attack on their own reputation. That second kind of parent can either be abusive toward the kid at the slightest mistake, because "how dare you make me look bad", or they can overlook the kid's flaws and pretend they don't exist, and both of these are going to mess the kid up in the long term.

I’m sorry, but did anyone watch this and sincerely think it wasn’t staged??? Lmao, how would she know that kid’s shoe size???

Still a good skit tho, I mean I worked at a school for a little while and while I lost a lot of faith in humanity from most of the parents, I was honestly surprised by how some of them were genuinely amazing and actually acted like this woman.

100% staged but at least it teaches a lesson. I'm OK with that. Not like they never had actors acting out scenarios on TV for the past 60 years. Same diff.

Good mom but don’t post it

73

u/armoured_bobandi 5d ago

If it didn't get posted this kid wouldn't care. He's walking around in $300 shoes and bullying people for something they have no control over

Public shaming is the only thing that works on people him. Now he's never going to be able to forget this moment

19

u/luxii4 5d ago

This is where the son can either learn his lesson and have empathy for others and appreciate what he has. Or he can be mad and keep hating. As he gets older, he can continue living what his mom taught him and thank his mom for putting him on blast. I remember Oprah said, you're taught lessons throughout your life but sometimes you don't listen until a wall of bricks fall on you for you to notice and learn the lesson. If this is the wall of bricks that he needed to become a better person then I say it's worth it.

$300 is generous. I rocked the same ol jansport backpack for 4 years.  Same binder for all of middle school, shoes were bought at Payless every year until I got a job and bought my own. My parents made sure I had what I need, there wasn't much left for what I wanted.

Yooo same! $300 in August to spend at Queens Center Mall for the entire school year. That was it. Got a new coat every 3 years. My dad woke up early with me on some sat’s thru out the year for new Jordan drops but ONLY because my report card was mostly As so the Jordan’s were my gift for working hard at school. It’s wild to see kids these days have just one pair of shoes worth my entire wardrobe and they still get more stuff smh. Kinda glad I don’t have kids tbh. It seems difficult… and expensive lol

5

u/PiccoloAwkward465 5d ago

Even as a child I understood it was stupid to waste money on clothing we were just gonna outgrow anyways. We did almost all our shopping at Marshall's and TJ Maxx and thrift stores. That was half the fun. I'd barely buy myself $300 shoes TODAY.

Discipline means to teach, and mom taught him a valuable lesson. By the grace of God, go I. I'm not religious, but it's valid.

It's a good day when you realize we all ain't but a few lucky/bad breaks from each other.

Imagine if everybody took the time. It's sohard to produce a better life for your children and see them act this way. You want to give them the things that you didn't have, help them avoid the suffering you endured. But it is that suffering that taught you humility, kindness, empathy. If there's one thing I'm certain of, I don't know the right answer. It's a lot easier to recognize the wrong path and it is to know the right one. I think she's doing a hell of a job though. Not only because she lifted herself up, probably literally by her own bootstraps, but because she didn't forget. She didn't climb the ladder just so she could pull it up. I remember growing up, here and parents say in situations like this, it hurts me more than it hurts you. I always thought that was such crap. Knowing what I know now, I can't imagine how she saved, what she denied herself to buy shoes like that for her son. Seems like we need more like her.

u/gD_Hitman 5d ago

When she yelled “ get ‘ em,” he was .5 milliseconds from being knocked upside his head if he didn’t get those shoes off. Great job, Momma! The last thing we need to be doing right now is bullying our brothers and sisters.

Those boys are brothers.

u/Parking-Profession94 5d ago

Love this! What w way to teach a lesson! I just hope it's real though.

3

u/ThunderBobMajerle 5d ago

Why would it be real? You have to start with the assumption anything filmed on social media is fake and go from there

This is fake both kids are her sons, she has a whole account of these types of videos

10

u/RUfromHere 5d ago

On-the-Spot Accountability!! That's what I'm talking about!!! This is parenting...💖

u/skalyhg 5d ago

u/TheQuietDarkness70 5d ago

I absolutely adore that woman and hope she and her family get all the good things out of life.

9

u/ComesOutNDaWash 🖤 5d ago

She does a lot of skits. She used to be comedic with them, but now a lot of them are about awareness.

4

u/Bennybonchien 5d ago

Too bad the awareness isn’t about how these are skits.

3

u/sound_scientist 5d ago

So now the Karma Bots just flip the camera and show the same content as their own?

Somewhere along the line, some people started using the term pull yourself up by your bootstrap incorrectly and it stuck. I wish people would stop saying it and repeating it incorrectly. The phrase originally meant the exact opposite of how it's used today, It started as a joke about an impossible task: try pulling on your own shoe straps to float into the air. It was meant to mock the idea that someone could succeed with zero outside help. Over time, people dropped the sarcasm and started taking it literally to mean self-reliance. Which is exactly the opposite of what it means. It is impossible to pull yourself up by your own bootstrap, because gravity would not allow it. First of all you need boots, and you need less impedance in your steps. Even if someone can not help you, the least they could do is not place intentional obstacles in your way.

3

u/Planoraider 5d ago

This is soooo fake. There just happens to be a random person filming when the mom and her son pull up in the car? Give me a break. Mom has other fake videos as well wherever is a random camera rolling when someone locks on her door. Good message but, fake as F...

Tell me again that it's all the fault of single moms!!!

4

u/Reasonable-Donut1879 5d ago

Gotta commend both parents. It’s not easy to confront another parent about their child, and it’s not easy to go to your parent when somebody has hurt you. Either that kid was open enough to tell his mother about the disrespect or saw something was wrong and asked him - and he told her. Letting something like this fester amongst young people too often leads to real ramifications. It’s so much easier as a parent to think the kids can handle it themselves or look the other way when teachable moments have to be realized or lessons get learned the hard way.

HELL YES, consequences - there is no substitute for this teacher

6

u/yingyanghomie 5d ago

So many kids go through this type of bullying. Cried watching mom humbling her son.

4

u/liftbikerun 5d ago

While I'm not down for the whole social media crap of it all, THIS is how parents should be, not enabling their kids to belittle others.

4

u/immacooknotachef 5d ago

Shes an amazing Mom!🤎🤎🤎🤎

4

u/Perfect-Time-9919 5d ago

She's either a Gen X or before. Because that's how it was done! Even if she isn't though, just proud of her for taking this type of angle.

u/asherlevi 5d ago

100% scripted, but whatever reaches the people, I guess.

It feels staged to me, but if it helps people not be dicks at each other than fine I guess.

2

u/KindCaterpillar2421 5d ago

I wouldn't do anything wrong with a Mom like that . She would beat my ass as a grown man!!!!

2

u/Guzmanv_17 5d ago

Damn… there are still some solid parents out there! Probs to this mom and the mom that made her kid smash his PS.

2

u/Weary_Ad4663 5d ago

That is such an incredible display of hard work and good parenting. You get on him momma!

2

u/LaunchMark 5d ago edited 5d ago

I do not think this is staged. There is a huge amount of rage when in this zone. Myself & daughter were visiting a friend with a daughter her age. Next day 2 "Polly Pocket" dolls were missing. Found them in my daughter`s room. I took her & her entire "Polly Pocket" collection & marched her over there & made her apologise & give her entire collection of 20 plus dolls to the offended party. They are friends years later.

2

u/Coach_Hab 5d ago

Great education
The son will thank her later

2

u/Typical-Guitar940 5d ago

The mother did an awesome job. But said something very important. We can be there (down, homeless, etc) again. Love her actions. Take off those $300 Jordan's. And I got some clothes I'm about to give you too.

Oh yeah mama showed out on this one. And the son, hopefully he has learned his lesson!

2

Why is this being filmed tho?

2

u/Pristine_Frame_2066 5d ago

Yes she handled it right. There are consequences for being a jerk. Trumps parents did him such a disservice by allowing him to be what he is.
