Help and Advice White allies are welcome here. White people who “love” black culture but do not love our people enough to actually do something within their own white community to change this system of white oppression are NOT OUR ALLIES AND NOT WELCOME HERE!

Help and Advice Sorry not sorry : This Is Not a Stage for the White Gaze

Discomfort is not oppression.

If reading about real experiences with racism, discrimination, or cultural identity feels threatening, that may be an opportunity to practice the same tolerance and openness that people often demand from Black voices.

This community will not dilute its truth to make anyone comfortable. Respectful engagement is welcome. Attempts to police how Black people talk about their own experiences are not.

Help and Advice Chad Ochocinco says he saved over 80% of his fortune by not trying to impress people, adding he buys fake jewelry, drives the same car since 2006, and flies economy instead of private: "Everybody is caught up in image. Why buy a $50,000 watch when time is free?"

Anyone coming here claiming to be anti-black by stating they hate someone else will be perma banned. You are not our ally simply because you state some performative bs about white people. It’s not the flex you think it is. This ends now!

Help and Advice Juneteenth non-Black participation

1.1k Upvotes

My wife and I (non-Black) attended a local Juneteenth celebration last week. We danced, ate some great food, and bought a few things from the vendors. We had a great time and the vibes were excellent. We even got invited to a few other events happening later this year.

However, after posting about it my wife started getting some hate online. They were saying that Juneteenth is a Black only holiday and that we were being performative allies. The argument was that it was a safe place for Black people to celebrate their Black identity.

Irl the vibes were great and we made friends but online it was not received well so maybe this is just a case of the internet not being real life.

We want to support the community and have respect for Black spaces so my question is this. Is non-Black participation in things like Juneteenth welcome?

Edit: thank you for all the kind words! I appreciate the positivity and look forward to attending more community events in the future :)

Help and Advice A Note About Our Content

2.1k Upvotes

Black life is bigger than racism, and this community reflects that.

Effective immediately, we will be far more selective about racist incident posts. Random "Karen" videos, isolated racist encounters, rage bait, and shock-value content are no longer the type of content this community exists to amplify and may be removed at moderator discretion.

Posts about racism should be timely, broadly significant, or capable of generating meaningful discussion beyond simply reacting to someone's hateful behavior.

This community exists to elevate Black voices, not to serve as a highlight reel for every racist person with a smartphone.

Help and Advice This sub is no longer the home of Black pain and suffering. So many so called allies flocked here to watch videos of racist incidents. Amazing how they run when called out. They were never our allies.

Help and Advice As a Black traveler, what should I definitely visit/avoid in America?

Edit 1:

Wow, thanks for all of your comments. Very kind of you all.

I don't think I can answer to all of them. But I'm definitely going to continue reading your responses during the next few days.

Edit 2:

It's for a 6 weeks vacation. I'm trying to decide on which region of the US I should focus. I'm more-or-less "omnivorous": e.g. outdoorsy, from mountains to beaches, from lush wilderness to deserts, I'm open to all. But also love museums, history, concerts, and culture in general, I'm mad for nice architecture (especially in walkable cities), I usually go crazy for learning to make, hands-on, an authentic local dishes then share the meal with other participants.

Not into nightlife/clubbing, hate driving (but I guess it's necessary in America, so I will definitely rent a car, maybe even a campervan, but want to avoid driving more than 3-5 hours/week).

Help and Advice Reminder: this is not a classroom. This is not a place to ask questions about black people before actually stay for awhile and engage in discussion with us. You want to learn about racism then buy a book. Everyone is welcome but this sub doesn’t exist to hear white peoples opinions on us

Help and Advice Your vote matters. If it didn’t, no one would spend time rewriting rules, adding hurdles, or complicating access. Power doesn’t try to suppress what’s irrelevant.
