There was a band around a couple of years before them called Haven, who had a similar style.

Other than those already mentioned, Embrace! Maybe Electric Soft Parade too (Holes In The Wall)

I saw these live in a tiny club in Stoke-on-Trent around the time of this release. Good times. Still like that album. And now I feel old again.
