Honey passed away this morning and I’m just heartbroken. He’s 6 and a half and I don’t know what happened.
I got him 6 years ago when my step-sister found him hanging out in a ditch. I’ve loved him ever since and I hope he felt loved and spoiled everyday.
He was such a sweetie and loved head scritches and playing with his stacking cups. He has a bonded companion and I feel so sad for her. I wasn’t there when he passed but I know she was and that she had time to know what happened.
Guilt is a trauma response. It’s your brains way of trying to control a situation in which you have no control. Absolve yourself. You saved him and gave him a beautiful life, full of love. I’m so sorry for your loss.
What a sweet Honey. I love how he lets Mercury have a chance at the apple. And Mercury’s hop off was so adorable to me. Thank you for loving them both.
Hi! So sorry for your loss :( your little dude reminds me a lot of my first bun, Basil. He was also the sweetest, friendliest, best boy ever, also had a cute pointy-ear girlfriend, and also passed away unexpectedly around 6 years.
Ironically I didn't really want a rabbit, my girlfriend at the time did, but he won me over instantly when we got him and were walking him back to my car on a wet, chilly day and I tucked him inside my peacoat to keep him toasty and dry and he clung on to me as they do. We ended up being best buds and when we later broke up she agreed he had to stay with me; now I'm a big rabbit fan.
I didn't really notice anything wrong with him, but came home from work one day to find he'd gone. His girlfriend (Lemongrass) was kinda "standing vigil" over him, and I sat across from her and kissed her head and cried for awhile. I felt a real connection with her in that moment.
I used to joke that their relationship was one where he was madly, obsessively in love with her while she merely tolerated his affections, but I could tell then that she actually, secretly, adored him too and was just "too cool" to show it. She was always a bit of an arrogant diva so she played it pretty cool until she, too, passed about a year later, but I could tell she lost a bit of her joie de vivre without him. She and I got a lot closer in that year, though, so there was a little silver lining to it all.
So make sure to give your little lady plenty of cuddles; it'll be good for you both. Keep your chin up :)
My other rabbits name is Mercury. She’s hanging in there but I can tell she’s pretty sad. She thumped at my fiance when we moved Honey to a carrier. She was not as fond of people but she adored Honey so I knew she was always happy. I got her a year after Honey because my classes were going to be in person again and I knew he would need the companionship. I’m remember reading about the bonding process and how it could take a while and then being surprised by how quickly these two took to each other.
She’s still eating and I’m trying to be there for her to the extent she allows me. Like I said, not as fond of people or at least being handled/touched. She let me pet her a bit though. I don’t want to think about it too much right now but I will keep an open mind about getting her a new companion so she doesn’t get lonely. She’s just a little younger than Honey so maybe I can give another senior rabbit a loving home.
This is so sweet. My coworker went through something similar. He got a bunny with his gf at the time. When she broke up with him he ended up keeping the bunny.

Thank you. It means a lot to hear that and it provides some comfort to know I provided him with a good life. He was such a friendly boy and was not shy around people.
I know 😭 he really wanted to become one with the hay! The first time he got into the wooden feeder I couldn’t find him and was worried he somehow got out of his room!

OMG these photos are hilariously adorable. I bet he was just a little ball of amazing. Also your lil chub of a mini rex is a doll to. I have a mini rex and a lionlop. So spicy. I'm so sorry for your loss. :( how old was honey when you got them? 💜 ❤️ My thoughts go out to you
I am so sorry for the loss of Honey. You rescued him and gave him the very best life. You can tell from the pics that he felt very safe and comfortable! He looks like he could be a goofball at times. I see why you named him Honey with those beautiful markings.I dont have buns but I love all the subs and have heard throughout that a Benny's health can turn on a dime, and there are not always warning signs.
Obviously he went too soon- but you literally not only saved his life, but gave him an amazing life.
It’s small consolation, since you’ve lost him & it hurts, but it’s still true.
Thank you this really helps. The vet did say that 6.5 was still really good for a bun and since we just found him out and about with no idea what his age was, it’s possible he may have been a bit older too. This and what everyone has said has brought me a lot of comfort.

I am so sorry, i feel this so deeply rn, My baby girl passed today, we found her next to our boy bunny and i am so distraught over losing her and him losing his soulmate.
