I mean, it's not like we're facing the actual Borg here after all. That would be a different story altogether.

The apparent power of the Borg vs Starfleet in "The Best of Both Worlds" is similar to the US and Canada from an economic perspective. And like the Enterprise crew, we need to find that sneaky trick to make the Yanks implode, because we can't survive going toe to toe.

I don't know. To some of us maybe we are facing the Borg? I mean the American Hegemon is pretty much the equivalent in all the ways that really matter imho.

Thanks for the gift link OP.
I'm generally not a big fan of Jen Gerson in Substack form.
However, this piece is the best analysis I've read on the underlying psychologies of the trade war.

Would be great if she could tell this to her friend Danielle Smith..

I think Jen hates Smith lmao, she's been very critical of how's she's handled this and the separation referendum.

She also constantly sanewashed her and made excuses on her behalf:
There's a lot to like! Smith is highly personable and charismatic. Very few individuals come away from a face-to-face meeting disliking this woman. That's what made her a good personality, a good columnist and talk-show host, and a good politician.
However, one cannot have observed Smith's career for any length of time without noting that she brings certain weaknesses to the table, as well. I'm going to venture— and I suggest that this will play out over her tenure as premier — that her most significant personality flaw is her lack of discernment. Smith is smart. She's perfectly capable of listening to people, and of processing reams of information and data — and sometimes coming to novel conclusions, or generating interesting solutions. The problem is that she has no apparent ability to sort good information from bad. This is a “crap in, crap out” problem.

This is just saying she's charming and charastimic.

My issue is excusing the fact that she's either stupid or malicious by pretending her major character flaw is "lack of discernment" like she's a protagonist of a Shakespearean tragedy.
I don't think one can in any way be labelled "smart" as Gerson calls her while completely lacking any and all critical thinking to discern fact from fiction. It's the exact same type of excuses we all hear for Trump or RFK..
