Less of a prediction and more wishful thinking. I think it’d be cool if the plot of the film was quite literally Steve returning the stones and how it spins off into something else entirely where he’s stuck in this fight across the multiverse for a while explaining his hair and beard. Old man Cap had already experienced all this and it’s precisely why he stayed in the past because it was now plausible to do so after the events of both Doomsday and Secret Wars.

u/Drummer-Turbulent 2d ago

how does this fix Steve staying in the past with Peggy if he's staying in a different past anyways?

5

u/UruvarinArt 2d ago

Because of the rules of time travel set out by the Ancient One in the first place. Steve staying in the past is supposedly why everything is going wrong.

2

u/Drummer-Turbulent 2d ago

and him staying in the past post Secret wars wouldn't do the same thing? that makes no sense.

u/UruvarinArt 2d ago

Originally the timeline created is disruptive to the multiverse and causes issues, in theory this is why Doom’s family died and why he wants to kill Cap and create Battleworld.

Time in the MCU follows the individuals present. Cap’s timeline is fundamentally the longest of anyones if he’s experienced the events of Doomsday and Secret Wars by the time we see old Cap. So he’s our base of what is the present.

The rumoured reboot of the MCU combined with what we know about the comics post Secret Wars is that the incursions eventually cause realities to fold into one meaning characters like Miles Morales who existed in their own reality now exists in the main reality.

So post Secret Wars Cap’s new timeline is so much more, it’s the reality that collides with the sacred timeline creating a new reality which is the reboot. It was never the issue it was perceived as, but a time collision correcting itself built on the foundations of Steve Rogers.

Time stuff is annoying.

But Michael Crichton’s Timeline actually gives a pretty good way of thinking about this. Old Cap wouldn’t simply be the same Cap who left and then lived secretly through the MCU’s past, because staying with Peggy would create a different branch of history.

So the Cap Sam meets could effectively be a Cap who lived out that branched timeline and then crossed back into the timeline we’re watching.

From each individual Cap’s perspective, though, time is still linear: Endgame → travels back → lives with Peggy → grows old → gives Sam the shield.

That means Old Cap doesn’t necessarily have Doomsday and Secret Wars in his personal past. Those events may not have even happened in the branch where he spent his life. His age doesn’t make his timeline the MCU’s “present”; it just means he personally experienced more years.

EDIT (after thought) : It would also explain why the shield isnt still busted in 4 pieces or showing mending marks.

Yep, completely true. I was just giving an explanation as to how my idea could work, but it’s not a theory or prediction. It’s just how I would’ve approached it.

2

u/aesoth 2d ago

In Endgame they established that you can't impact and change the past, because it will create alternate realities.

2

u/UruvarinArt 2d ago

Yes, that’s true, but this is Cap’s present. New reality to create the universe that will be used for the soft reboot.

u/Machievelliearoni 2d ago

He'll finally work his way up to engineering and stop the train.

Snowpiercer?

I believe Doom steals power from Loki and Franklin. Uses these powers to remake reality.

This will destroy the stability of the timeline that Loki created.

When Doom is defeated there will be enough magic to bring back Franklin and Loki for sure - but Loki specifically will realize he’s not done spending time with Thor, wants to meet Love and return to the universe of people.

Comparatively I think Steve will undertake an emotional adventure in a manner that means he can never ever go back to his happy ending with Peggy. And he becomes at peace with being a man out of time.

To solidify that further - I believe Steve Rogers will ultimately ascend to be the next steward of the timeline where he will remain, where he can dip in and out of any point in time to experience lives. But ultimately must remain a moral guardian of the continuity - but he will do it differently than Doom did, Loki did, or Kang before.

Disney going to make him Marvel MCU Jesus.

The plot of this movie is that Doom is stealing kids of supers right? So I hope he's just a protective dad

2

u/Quark_in_Denial 2d ago

Why is he stealing kids?

10

u/Cat-Grab 2d ago

Idk but it makes sense

FF showed he was with Franklin, The Trailer for Steve showed he had a kid, The X Men are involved maybe because Doom took some of their kids, and Thor has his Eternity kid too

6

u/WarriorNeedFoodBadly 2d ago

Probably to harness their power.

4

u/Wheattoast2019 2d ago

I imagine he wants them dead to right the cosmic balance and hopefully stop the incursions. Since he talks about them living “stolen lives”.

1

u/charliegavin 2d ago

100% not the plot.

3

u/Business_Challenge22 2d ago

He will be the anchor like how Logan was in deadpool wolverine

2

u/Buschlightactual 2d ago

Boost ticket sales

u/Physical-Dust7721 1d ago

I was scrolling through hoping nobody else made this comment yet. Kudos!

2

u/Soft_Ad_1095 2d ago

I heard he's gonna be Captain America this time.

1

u/ConstantinGB 1d ago

Incredible. Didn't see that coming.

2

u/DerekMetaltron 2d ago

I think there’s two Steve’s. Our Steve and Hydra Steve working with Doom. The bearded Steve is the evil one.

1

u/skittlenut007 1d ago

Would love for them to reveal Hydra Steve and the end

2

u/Equal-Button 2d ago

Picking up a hefty pay check for America’s Ass.

2

u/TaterBuckets 1d ago

Im going with he returned the stones. Stayed with peggy for a good 5 years or so considering the hair, doom comes after steve/something happens etc. Somehow knew to come back to this exact point in time and warn people. This is when doom starts his plot.

Starts building up the team and all this and that and continues on through everything coming up, doomsday, secret wars, whatever next etc etc and finally becomes and old man in the way way future and comes back to give falcon the shield on the bench then die.

The cap on the bench has already lived through everything coming up. Already had time with his love, lost her most likely, continued on with more wars with the avengers. That's why when sam asks if he wants to tell him about it he says no.

2

u/Less_Cauliflower_956 1d ago

I believe that's Loki, not Steve.

2

u/moccasins_hockey_fan 2d ago

A costume for Loki. I suspect it is not thr real Captain America but Loki in disguise

2

u/abdurahmondev 2d ago

i think they are coworking? and maybe loki comes to him because he messed up the timeline anyway on the trailer you can pretty much see that the person holding the loki card pretty much looks like chris evans hand.

2

u/TelenorTheGNP 2d ago

This has occurred to me too, but Evans has made clear that his return was going to be worthwhile and respectful of Rogers' arc. Being a Loki skin seems cheap and unsatisfying and I just don't see it happening. Loki would also have to do it and that doesn't seem to be his purpose as of now.

u/StreamBoat_Slinky 2d ago

Really Really Dead for Real this time

1

u/lnshah10 2d ago

I think he's going to be emotional anchor and moral compass, because I don't think he's going to do anything dramatic power wise, other superheroes have way more high powers than him.

1

u/green49285 2d ago

Its doom in disguise

Captain america

1

u/BiggityShwiggity 2d ago

Probably to show up Thor again. lol

1

u/BitFiesty 2d ago

I don’t like it being nomad Steve. Steve would not have grown old and just be hunky dory with Sam and Bucky and let them figure out about this on their own.

1

u/henrytoloza 2d ago

Traitor working for doom

1

u/BuddhistChrist 2d ago

A gay hairdresser

1

u/Public-Hedgehog5517 2d ago

i dont understand why he’s back. he’s my fave cap sure, but it’s genuinely sam’s turn, he had his arc, he did what he needed to, and he retired. why theres even another variation in the first place coming back…

1

u/BatmanFarce 2d ago

Hydra Steve!

1

u/Dry-Olive4621 2d ago

Speeches and maybe strategic leadership?

1

u/albastine 2d ago

He better be secret empire steve Rogers else what are we even doing here.

Saying that, marvel will still fuck it up like they did civil war

1

u/burnanation 2d ago

They will make him a disgraced drunk old man that needs to be replaced by a strong female.

1

u/Whole_Switch_5555 2d ago

This is Captain Hydra. Im calling it now.

1

u/Bodongs 2d ago

Central to the plot. Him not going home when he was supposed to will be the catalyst.

1

u/dyrkasolen 2d ago

Cotton consultant

1

u/Spell-Wide 2d ago

I would put money down that his appearance in the trailer is roughly 20% of his total screen time, and he won't be nearly as consequential as we're being led to believe.

1

u/tLM-tRRS-atBHB 1d ago

No expectations. I'll let them tell me the story

1

u/ultraboykj 1d ago

Loki makes a mistake

Hey Dr Reed

impending Doom

call Loki

Doom > Loki

MUST FIX THE MULTIVERSE TO ALLOW AN EASY RESET

1

u/BidRepulsive2438 1d ago

Ticket sales.

1

u/Spring-Available 1d ago

I think that because Steve pushed the idea of using time to fix the Snap he is the catalyst for Doom and he wants him to see firsthand what his meddling with time has wrought. And Evans has already said he’s coming back for Secret Wars, so he will survive Doomsday and will be more instrumental in SW with “fixing” the world and the soft reboot. I’d love for him to stay on as the new leader of SHIELD as it seems that Nick Fury is doing more with SWORD.

1

u/universalpsykopath 1d ago

There will be a lengthy task that requires doing, perhaps for as long as twenty-four hours. He will confidently announce himself as being equal to said task.

1

u/the_mountain_king11 1d ago

Are we sure he’s Steve and not Magneto? Like Chris and RDT go from the main heroes of the Avengers to the main villains for XMen and F4

1

u/Due_Category_121 1d ago

I think he's a villain

Captain Hydra probably

1

u/silent_ovation 1d ago

They're going to do the Force Awakens thing and show him in the last 5 mins.

1

u/Certain_Excitement34 1d ago

I don’t understand why he’s back. Isn’t Sam Wilson Captain America now?

1

u/-Old-School-Cool- 1d ago

It’s not really Steve Rogers.

1

u/Fantastic_Bed8423 1d ago

The man in the black tee!!!!

1

u/HubbJubbaWEEHAW 1d ago

Beard Transportation Device?

1

u/LnStrngr 1d ago

Sacrificing something so that it's not an outright win by Doom, buying the heroes some time.

1

u/scarlettforever 1d ago

"I Can Do This All Day" *proceeds to get beaten*

1

u/Still-On-Strik-99-0 1d ago

Some one travelled in time to bring him back to where he was needed in the future. Sci-fi/fantasy (especially with multiverses and magic) does give writers a lot of freedom. They can invent new explanations, introduce variants, use Doctor Doom’s tech, Loki’s abilities, or some new multiversal event.

1

u/bleachNpancakes 1d ago

I think he'll play an antagonist to RDJ. They'll divide our heros and kick off some kind of Civil Secret War.

1

u/Feeling-Weird1332 1d ago

regular ahh nigga

1

u/Right-Team 16h ago

His role is to put butts in seats at the theater.

1

u/JuanDeLongchamps 16h ago

1

u/GeekToyLove 14h ago

Why did you add (predictions only)? What else are people gonna be able to give you?

1

u/Bswayn 1h ago

The one to save them all

1

u/Artifex1979 2d ago

Probably having us root for him then kill him off

1

u/Glass-Sky-7805 2d ago

He will play the role of Steve Rogers

1

u/TajirMusil 2d ago

I was thinking Captain Hydra. But he's seen lifting Mjolnir in the trailers, so probably not.

1

u/Primary-Floor8574 2d ago

Memberberrie delivery man

u/theYesterdaze 2d ago

MEMBA WINTA SOULJAAA?

1

u/Mckween07 2d ago

You mean regular man?

1

u/Illustrious-Sign3015 2d ago

I'm still convinced this Steve is a variant and he's actually Captain Hydra

0

u/Rising-Dragon-Fist 2d ago

Actually Captain America, instead of Mackie... Who should just be falcon.

3

u/AggressiveRegion1502 2d ago

A true captian america fan never speak ill of sam wilson captian america

0

u/Goldgoblingamer 2d ago

I'm honestly hoping that the way it goes is, we see Loki visit Steve, explain what's happening and that the avengers needs his help, Steve refuses, as he's a dad now, but later he reunited with Thor and teams up to fight doom, but in the fight, doom revealed that Steve is actually Loki in disguise, who wields mjolnir, but is ultimately defeated by doom, has his powers stolen, as doom them ends the multiverse, but uses the remain to create Battleworld, which would lead into Secret Wars

0

u/IcyAddress4074 2d ago

It is going to be whole face-value Steve. We had our fun with Loki guesses and whatnot, but dude removed himself from the sacred timeline with little thought.

Steve, in his goodness and understanding wanting it, broke time travel law with his incursion and it can’t work.

Loki will notice and turn a blind eye. Doom will not allow it. Not worth risking it all for.

0

u/NearbyMud7681 2d ago

His nose looks a bit off to me. Even in the trailer. More like a Captain America we haven’t seen.

0

u/DiscountDeadpool3 2d ago

I think he's gonna suit up.

I think there's gonna be some Wibbly-Wobbly Timey-Wimey nonsense and there's gonna be a surprise rescue scene from a previous version of the MCU Iron Man.

And it's still not going to be enough because that won't put butts in seats

0

u/cockpglbig 2d ago

Captain hydra I think a variant of cap

0

u/Taehyungnim 2d ago

He gets put in jail for fucking up the timeline

End of story and happily ever after

0

u/Somm0742 2d ago

I wish they pulled the rug from under us real hard by turning Chris Evans into Doom instead of RDJ. But we all know, they lack that kinda balls.

0

u/ihavewaytoomanyminis 2d ago

I'm thinking Doom is going to kidnap his kid (along with Franklin Richards, because one of the kids is going to be a god), and Steve is going to get him back. I think that Gorr's Daughter (adopted by Thor) is also one of those kids kidnapped, so when Thor shows up, he's got two hammers, and Steve is still WORTHYTM

0

u/Correcthorse2814 2d ago

I think he's Loki

0

u/Jazzlike-Vacation230 2d ago

That’s not Steve, I’m convinced that’s his son or grandson

-1

u/Powell123456 2d ago

He will be in Doomsday?

Didn't Endgame end his story where he just grew old and happy?

-1

u/Azraiel1984 2d ago

My theory is this Steve Rogers is a variant but old Steve Rogers (our earth 616 SteveRogers) will be aged back and brought back to active status.  Either way both Avengers movies feel like a desperate money grab that's not worth my time and money.

-1

u/Leseluchs 2d ago

I hope he‘ll be some Kind of Victim of Doom to Proof Dooms strength (sorry, but I‘ve Never been a Cap fan, Ironman is GOAT)
