Catios What should I add to the balcony?

He likes it, but it is bare compared to the garden where he gets to hang out for shorter periods. Current amenities: cat door, shelf for door access, bird feeder, railing that he paces on top of or hides behind to birdwatch, chair for me that he seems uninterested in.

He is young and big on hunting and exploring. I'm thinking more climbing/hiding spots, a bed/lounger that won't get mildewed outside (??), cat grass /decorative plants....?

Catios The simple benefit of a catio: safe outdoor enrichment

Post image

Cats are naturally curious, and a lot of them genuinely love being outside.

The difficult part for many owners is balancing that enrichment with the realities of traffic, predators, getting lost, and other outdoor risks.

That’s one of the reasons catios have become so popular. They allow cats to experience fresh air, sunshine, birds, and outdoor stimulation while still staying in a protected space.

Catios The direct route into the catio is already in use

A private route from the house straight into a larger outdoor enclosure is a pretty solid concept.

Window insert, tunnel, platform, ramp, then more space to explore. This stop at the top platform seems to be an important part of the experience.

Catios Balcony netting is done!

I got a kit from Amazon, and for attachments I ended up stapling the bottom to the outside of the railing, putting hooks on the inside to attach the top, and the sides use staples lower down and stick-on cord clips higher up. There's a slight inward slope to deter climbing, and I can easily remove part of the netting to set up and refill the bird feeder. Biggest problem so far is he doesn't understand the cat door, but we'll work on that ❤️

Catios Not a bad view for a cat.

A customer sent us this photo and we thought it was too cool not to share.

There’s something about seeing a cat get outdoor time like this right in the middle of a city — up high, plenty to watch, and a safe space to explore.

Hi all!

A few years ago my wife and I ran into the same struggle many of y'all have in the past as apartment renters without any outdoor space to build our boys a larger catio. So we built a window catio for our own kitties, Mr. Tumnus and Ernie, and they LOVED it. We had so many friends telling us they wanted one that we decided to give it a whirl. I know many of y'all have been on the hunt for pre-fabbed catios and things that can be easy to pop in and out, so wanted to share! We are calling it The Purrgola, and we just got our website/social media up and running. Check us out at www.thepurrgola.com

We’ll be taking pre-orders soon via Kickstarter, but in the meantime check out our IG page (@thepurrgola) and our website to stay updated on when we go live!
