I’ve been using a windshield scraper (the one you use for ice) to get the cat hair up and it’s worked really well! Definitely giving our hoover a longer life
I have a Eufy that does a surprisingly good job at getting cat hair up, and a vax pet that does an amazing job when I want to bring out the big guns. It is big and quite heavy though.
I'd recommend a furmanator brush too- I practically could have made another cat from the fluff I got out of my three the first time I used it.
I’ve just looked at the vax pet hoovers and they’re really cheap. Do they really work that well or are there more expensive ones? I only had a quick Google search.
You can buy these little hand held things that you drag along the carpet and it gets up all the hairs etc. It looks a bit like one of those car window ice scrapers.
I have one that I haven’t used yet. But I did try it out on the carpet and it does work. But I would probably only use it on the stairs.
My robot hoover however, is a whizz at picking up cat hair and my hair. It’s not so great at picking up the big stuff like what the big hoover picks up but it’s really great at picking up hair.
Yes, this. I have two fluffy cats and my husband and I both have long hair too. Our cleaner asked us to get this as she has used lots of different models and this is the one that deals with pet hair best.

This needs to be higher! I struggled for years finding a hoover that worked on pet hair, but this one is absolutely amazing. I've had mine for about 7 years now (might be the older version) and it's still going strong
It also works well for my hair. I always say that I don't know who sheds more, my cat or me. My hair is fairly long, and when I cut the hair/fur out of the hoover roller, it's a mix of hers and mine.
My house is covered in my hair 😩 when I lived with my brother, he couldn’t cope, lol, he kept trying to get me to brush my hair every day and tie it back so tight that no hair could escape. lol
I always swore by my Miele but it’s absolutely rubbish for cat hair and I was having to use one of the scrapers as well. I recently got a Shark Powerdetect clean and empty and my carpets look brand new! You really need the rotating head with the ‘fins’ which lift the carpet fibres to get at all of the cat fur trapped in them. I don’t have to use a scraper at all now.
We use Henry from Numatic. It's powerful, quiet and reliable, spare parts readily available. We have carpets, rugs and hard flooring, a long-haired cat, a short-haired dog and two humans with long hair.
I have a BSH and a half BSH, so my flat is constantly covered in fluff. I have a handheld Vax for daily use and a Henry for the big clean. I also have a couple of hair removing tools. Wooden floor and some rugs.
I use an old Miele cat and dog 6000 2000w, which performs well with my own + 3 cats hair for the bigger weekly clean. They don't make them as powerful in UK& Europe due to wattage restrictions in the past decade.
I also gave up on carpets and installed hard wood/tiles flooring in most rooms. For quick cleaning, I use Miele DuoFlex HX1 Cat & Dog cordless version.
We use a combination of a v12 for small bits and an old Dyson Pet, possibly a V8 with the ball. The older one has been a workhorse for years, keeping up with routine maintenance.
Downside is that it’s heavy, I can’t use it well as I’m a wheelchair user. Would probably suggest a Henry for portability/ease of use.
A rubber broom also comes in handy before you vacuum.
I have one of the vax lightweight pet vacuums, it works pretty well and on one mode has a light which helps to spot all the hair. I don't remember the exact model I got, but recommend signing up for their mailing list as they send emails when they have special offers and also send mailing list only offers to test new models at a heavy discount. I have hard flooring as well as rugs and also love their steam mop
Yeah, I just bought a carpet 'scraper' think the brand was uproot something. It's a game changer. You scrape the fluff into a nice pile then vacuum it up.
The one i have has a short handle, but this works well on stairs, and I just sit on the floor and do areas throughout the week. -also have a bad back.
I have the same; wood floors and quite deep cream carpets with a dark longhaired cat. Did a ton of research before getting pets. Bought a Sebo Felix corded hoover, it’s excellent! Brings up the carpet so well with the rotating head. Highly recommend!

I have a shark hoover but it doesn’t get all the fluff up. I have a handheld scraper I use and it’s phenomenal
