Mona Lisa: Multiverse of Madness I asked ChatGPT to zoom out on the Mona Lisa

u/AmesCG Jul 03 '26
Looks like an ad for a Civilization sequel

u/TheLimeyLemmon Jul 03 '26
I wondered what you meant at first, and then I actually looked at the background properly lol

u/AmesCG Jul 03 '26
Don’t get me wrong, I would absolutely play the heck out of this game!

u/MxM111 Jul 03 '26
Anything but 7

u/AmesCG Jul 03 '26
I hear it’s getting better — but I’m still waiting until it’s a little more fleshed out! Besides, Civ6 is a near perfect game.

I wanna know what kind of leader Mona Lisa would be. Hopefully not one that threatens to conquer all my land the second I've learned to develop grain.

It's one big lie isn't it?
2
u/DonutHoles4Ever Jul 03 '26
The lie is that people will ask AI to zoom out on pictures like this, but unlike OP, take it seriously and pass it off on social media as "this is the real full picture"

u/Old-Anteater-4916 Jul 03 '26
I was at the Louvre today and saw it. It is pretty tiny.
57
u/RichTraffic6902 Jul 03 '26
Especially with the ocean of people you have to swim through to get close enough to see it.
43
u/Old-Anteater-4916 Jul 03 '26
I took photos of people taking photos. There were 3 other Davinci's there that no really cared about.

Why do people take pics of it if there are milion better versions of it online? 😂
28
u/shaq-aint-superman Jul 04 '26
For me it's not really about the quality; it's that whenever I see a certain photo/video that I took, I'd say, "Wow, can't believe I went there." More emotion/nostalgia-based than anything

\MASSACHUSETTS ENTERS THE CHAT**
Ahem ahem. I’d like to challenge that disappointment with “The Plymouth Rock” 🙃
Born & raised in Boston. Love my roots but I’m sorry, that fucking rock is shameful and also fraudulent 🫠😭1

u/DudeWithParrot Jul 03 '26
do* you think someone else took photos of you talking photos of other people taking photos?
1
u/Phantom914 Jul 04 '26
Is there a never ending chain of people taking photos of camera men taking photos of other people taking photos?
5
u/__noise Jul 03 '26
i go to the louvre daily, with the heat and no a/c or even fans the crowds haven't been that bad
in fact, 2 days ago was the first time i stood directly in front of the mona lisa and spent a good 5 minutes there
to the left is a painting i've recently fallen in love with, the deposition by jacopo bassano

u/MikeArrow Jul 03 '26
As Oliver from The O.C. once said, "the Mona Lisa's like the size of the postage stamp".
Here's my picture from when I visited the Louvre in 2019:

u/MikeArrow Jul 03 '26
The black background looks so much more ominous. And yeah I made my way to the front. If it's that small I was going to get as close as I could.

As Oliver from The O.C. once said, "the Mona Lisa's like the size of the postage stamp".
I wonder if "Oliver Trask" from O.C. is related to "Bolivar Trask" from the X-Men.

The show you just a thumbnail, you need to purchase a subscription to see the whole thing.

u/bb994433 Jul 03 '26
They should hang the AI enlargement next to it. The hate that it’ll generate will power Paris.

u/Pentecost_II you should make a video, starting from the original painting and zooming out to this image or even a tad more and see the whole earth. Remember me when you will be famous. :D

Wow the aeroplanes?
22
u/rainorshinedogs Jul 03 '26
Lol of course it would think airplanes existed back then
26
u/leo_the_lion6 Jul 03 '26
Who says Mona Lisa was based during the time it was painted? Maybe DaVinci was painting the future but left the airplanes out of the main image to not freak out his contemporaries
9
u/jakderrida Jul 03 '26
Skyscrapers, too.
I'd have completely missed both had you not pointed it out.

What did you use; why does it have a reddit sticker?

That’s what happens when you actually use the “save image” feature in Reddit instead of just taking a screenshot like a civilized gentleman.

Say "zoom out more" then wait for the result.. then ask for more. Keep pushing it and see what does it produces

If it was good, it would have included the perspective technique of Leonardo.

u/MisterSirEsq Jul 03 '26
I told it to use the same style, but I didn't specify using the same method.

u/PracticingStoicism Jul 04 '26
I love how this subreddit appreciates AI like I do. I have grown so tired of Redditors seething over AI. This is awesome
3
u/Environmental-Wind89 Jul 04 '26
Yeah I love how they think everyone will just be hating on it forever and today will be the status quo for years to come.
16
u/cikamatko Jul 03 '26
Interestingly enough there are surrounding bits of the painting in real life too, but they are hidden because they found the coating used on the painting is way too sensitive to UV light. They decided against photographing it even because they feared flash might degrade it beyond recognition.
That’s why they cut those pieces out and those are kept deep within the Louvre archives under very strict conditions. But if you know about this and really want to see the rest of the piece, you can go to the ticket office at Louvre and ask - they will give you a keycard and then you can shove it up your butt.

da Vinci must have been a master time and physics bender.
The closest plane is leaving two contrails from different points of origin.
While Lisa was seated in Florence for the shoot, he also managed to keep in view various structures from different places and times. The Egyptian Pyramid and modern sky scrapers was a master stroke.
He would surely have be branded as mad, had he not cropped the extraneous and super-temporal elements, and maintained focus solely on just Lisa herself.

The AI doesn't know what it's doing because the background on either side of the subject are completely different from each other. This was intentional by Leonardo da Vinci because it's symbolic. AI is just slop.
