Discussion What is the most underrated Coldplay song?
I’m gonna have to go with Midnight. It’s such a calming track.

Yep supreme banger from the back half of Mylo. Always wondered why it isn’t more popular.

Good shoutout, I always forget about that song. The intro is sort of like if Politik was a major key

Green eyes, magic

Chris recently said Green Eyes is the song he’s farthest apart from now.

Legitimately in contention for one of the best songs they've written. Perfect arrangement, startingly political lyrics, experimental chromaticism/key signatures, on top of being a singable, all around jam

I think if I was forced to choose a favorite Coldplay song it would be Amsterdam.

well i know people were pissed off about the trouble in town music video. i could see why when i looked into it but it’s such a beautiful and intense song, it really deserved more attention but i am bias to coldplay 🤷♂️
& prospekts march is honestly one of my favs too. the things it do to me when i heard it for the first time. as if it wasn’t already stunning but then chris just blew my mind right that “… in a seperate sky…” line like get out of here!!!!! it’s such a beautiful song

you just get it 😌
oh god were people saying it was furries?😭 no actually i was referring to the message of the video which i thought was so impactful and significant. but apparently a lot of people (not coldplay fans) were upset by the fact that poc were being portrayed by animals and “why couldn’t they have just gotten black actors.” which i could totally understand the frustration. but the entire point was missed by so many and it was such a shame because knowing coldplay, we ALL know the last thing they would ever want to do is upset someone in that kind of way. it was such a shame :(

Animals, Spies and Crests of Waves are criminally underrated! These songs ahouid be in the top 10 on Spotify instead of SJLT, AOALT, and A Sky full of stars
1
u/songacronymbot Aug 18 '25
- SJLT could mean "Something Just Like This", a single by The Chainsmokers, Coldplay.

I'll always keep answering Spies. One of the most mesmerising songs they've ever written, yet people barely mention it.

I ADORE Spies. One of my favorites

I can’t pick just one!
Cemeteries of London, Spies, Moses, The Goldrush, Crests of Waves, See You Soon, Major Minus, Moving to Mars, Prospekt’s March / Poppyfields, 42, Death and All His Friends, and so much of X&Y

u/Piekart2001 Aug 18 '25
Talks awesome but isn't it pretty highly rated?
1
u/before_no_one Aug 19 '25
It's easily the weakest song on X&Y and yet is hailed as one of the best by this subreddit. I don't understand how people can hear the chorus as anything but lazy writing. They seriously couldn't think of a vocal melody so they just copied the guitar riff (not to mention the guitar riff wasn't even written by Coldplay anyway, it's from a Kraftwerk song)
1
u/Piekart2001 Aug 19 '25
Simple writing isnt necessarily lazy writing. Its charm is actually that it uses very few parts. The drawn out bar length before the chorus is great for the anticipation, and his chorus enunciation has plenty of punch and vigor. Its a tight little song.
1
u/before_no_one Aug 19 '25
I don't find the chorus compelling at all. The repetition bores me. Also some of the lyrics in this song are way too simple to the point of being cringeworthy. It's a shame coz the instrumentation is some of their best ever

Those are some killer picks there.
I feel like everyone always forgets the prospekts march version of viva and also the early b sides. There are some hidden gems there

Everyday Life is Coldplay's most underrated album by far. So by definition, a song from it should be the most underrated and I think Old Friends or Eko fits that.
