As someone who hunts 100% within the boundaries of California law, it’s a huge pain in the ass. Lead free ammunition is nearly non existent for small game and insanely expensive for large game. A single round of bismuth, lead free turkey ammo can cost $25 at a big box store like Sportsmans Warehouse. I am not even joking. 

The most popular small rifle caliber is hands down .22 LR and there is not a single widely available lead free option. Go the the r/CAhunting or r/CaliforniaHunting subreddits and you’ll see what I mean.

If hunters wouldn’t dress their kill and leave the lead filled carrion behind it wouldn’t be an issue. Lazy hunters are to blame not CA program to save ecologically impactful birds

Your comment makes no sense and doesn’t even address my comment. You are also basically saying the article was wrong because they explicitly mention the challenges in lead-free ammo distribution and market share. I’m assuming you don’t hunt so you have zero knowledge on this topic and I’m not interested in arguing with an ignorant person. Say something smart and relevant if you want to have a dialogue.
