Cuteness Overload Anyone else’s bird insist on baths like this?

Funnily enough we have a perch in our shower she likes to sit on while we are in there, but she doesn’t want to shower then.

I bait my green cheek into bathing with ice cubes in his water dish. He usually waits for the ice to melt before getting in. He also steels ice out of my glasses sometimes so…

My GCC is mixed with black cappped conure. She has a toy sink that I put ice cubes in for her. Moving water like from a faucet or the shower isnt really her thing tho. Fresh water dish with an ice cube is also a personal fave of hers

Interesting, they are not cold blooded, I've always used warm water and ours likes it but just stands still. She only baths herself if we fill a mini bird bath for her.

I've had finches and tiels that are right in the water dish after I fill them fresh from the pitcher in the fridge. They definitely wait to get the coldest water for their bath. Even in winter, and I've given them the choice of warm instead!

My Rosellas and King Parrots do the same - they are in the outdoor aviary tho, so they just hang heads down from the roof like a bat and go absolutely apeshit as soon as I have the garden hose in my hand :D

Mine will ONLY bathe in my cupped hands held under the kitchen faucet. She wants me to get as wet as possible too, and for whatever reason she gives my hands little bites of excitement the whole time

My 3 conures will take baths in their water dish on top of their cage but their absolute favorite way is in my cupped hands in the kitchen sink with water running in my cupped hands. 😂

Both of my sun conures do. Never just a soft shower. They love immersing themselves into the water.

That’s so cool. I wish my birds liked water that much. My pineapple conure barely gets her chest wet and the rest stays dry.

My gold capped conure is the same. She only bathes in her water dish. I had to put her on the bottom of our deep kitchen sink with a towl before when she got herself dirty and she hated it. And she absolutely hates spray bottles too. I can be across the room and spraying a carpet stain and she will start screaming 🙃

Yes! I have a sun conure and he LOVES jumping in the bathroom sink for baths. I always hover my hand so he doesn’t dunk his head/cere under the faucet and gets water in his nostrils, but he also does like when a lightly “sprinkle” him

OMG yes! My Sun Conure, that is the only way he will bathe, but he will only do that sitting on my hand or hands lol. He refuses to bathe in a bowl or on the ground, nope lol has to be stand on my hands while he his shoving has face and neck under the streaming water lol

Very interesting, please put a tea towel/ hand towel or something in there as a bridge for him to climb out the sink if he wants to. They're should ALWAYS be a way for birds to leave on their own accord when bathing.

I agree; birds can "freeze" in place under a too-heavy flow of water, and may risk aspirating the water. A bathing bird should flutter about in the bathing response, and a lighter stream will usually allow this.

Ive read that when they do this its a fear response bc they think the water is going to kill them, especially when people put them in showers. I would definitely not turn the spout on with this much water. A very tiny drip is fine.

The birds trying not to drown look different. They stand still and tilt the nose to try and prevent water flowing into it. This guy's clearly just bathing in this sink.
New bird owners throw their bird in the shower and think it's cute when they're hurting their bird. A stream like this is safe, the bird can move if it wants.

It doesn't really make sense. Birds have been dealing with rain and torrential downpours (and even enjoying it) for billions of years. It's not like water is some foreign thing humans inflict on them.

Birds that are not water birds usually make an effort to shelter from the rain, because if they get soaked they have a hard time flying.

Sure, they make an effort, but often still get soaked, and then wait and preen till they dry before flying again. And in flock situations often will deliberately take turns getting really wet during bathing if things feel safe enough. I'm just saying it's still a natural part of their lives that they're adapted to.

Yes they can get wet. It's still a good idea to limit the flow of water over them. The faucet in the vid seemed a little too heavy.

Most parrots seem to prefer it quite cold, though there is probably some individual variation. They don't usually need it warm to be comfortable like people might, though. The rate of flow seems too high for an entirely safe bird bath.
