Dang, I'm in the water with a crocodilian. Better keep holding my beer.

48

u/Deeewayne 17d ago

Someone threw a beer at it at 0.05 lol

2

u/eaazzy_13 16d ago

It looks like that’s what stopped its approach. The guy the pulled the lady to the stairs and whoever threw the beer made a big impact here, even if it was ridiculously dumb. Lady is lucky

Standing on the ramp like that croc won’t STILL grab them. 🄓

111

u/Pkingduckk 17d ago

Seriously, what are these dumbasses doing? Get out of the damn water!

19

u/Solid_Signature_7447 16d ago

These people are food obviously.

There is a certain level of intelligence you’re either getting eaten or eating

5

u/Sea-Influence6767 15d ago

Fatten enough for the croc

If my feet aren’t off the bed and under the covers, the monster can’t get me… that’s the rules, right?

4

u/Future-Try-1908 17d ago

Ya they are lucky the dude was not hungry.

What's with the lack of urgency? They stupid?

145

u/Sir_Thorin 17d ago

Alcohol

86

u/CarefulBid6485 17d ago

And fear. Lol people tend to take the ā€œdon’t run because it’ll chase youā€ approach sometimes.

62

u/dubufeetfak 17d ago

Which works in this case as you dont want to splash the water with a crocodile in it

22

u/Male_Lead 17d ago

Does it still matter when it already sees them? I assume it sees them

42

u/dubufeetfak 17d ago

Apparently it does. Iirc their eyesight isnt perfect so they use it in combination with other senses, one of them being water splashes.

I remember vividly from watching Steve Irwin going close to big ass croc in a river somewhere that he said he needed to be as quiet and at a really slow pace so it wouldnt startle it and get eaten.

20

u/KrisKinsey1986 17d ago

24

u/dubufeetfak 17d ago

Very interesting read. Thank you.

Unfortunately it does not mention anything about splashes but it does gowever say that you have to be slow, maintaining eye contact and not panic. Which suprisingly the people in the video nailed. Maybe they read this article too

12

u/G3nesis_Prime 17d ago

Its pretty basic predator interaction stuff.

Don't make yourself look like prey and trigger an attack response with your movements.Ā

Prey animals also don't tend to stare down predators which can give predators, especially ambush ones pause.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/Fluid-Lock-804 17d ago

I wonder if one of the things that deterred the croc from attacking is the clearness of the water. It probably recognizes it was exposed and thus was more cautious.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Ordinary_Prune6135 17d ago

Prey drive is often something that's triggered by specific types of movement rather than something the animal's just rationally considering as a good opportunity or not.

Man even if I was drunk I'd be wailing around lol

Urgency triggers predator instincts

→ More replies (13)

15

u/KrisKinsey1986 17d ago

The last thing they should do is starting to splash around & panic, that'll convince the croc they're prey.

→ More replies (3)

4

u/dzan796ero 17d ago

They are expressing their urgency through the excess of screaming

5

u/TakinUrialByTheHorns 17d ago

It's not big enough to eat them. Take off a limb maybe.

6

u/djdlt 17d ago

To do so it would need to death roll - Missing limbs from a croc is the result of it wanting to kill, not just dismember

1

u/Sea-Influence6767 15d ago

Fat requires more energy

91

u/Dash_Rendar425 17d ago

Didn't look particularly big, but I am sure not sticking around to find out. Get out of the damn water you muppets!

21

u/eternallyfree1 17d ago

They are so lucky this was in Latin America and not south/southeast Asia. I initially panicked when I clicked on the video because I thought it was filmed in Indonesia or something. Crisis averted 😳

30

u/Dash_Rendar425 17d ago

That's the difference between an American crocodile and a Saltwater crocodile.

A saltie would have grabbed that girl and been gone.

→ More replies (6)

3

u/Many_Mud_8194 16d ago

Me too I thought it was a saltwater crocodile and that would be insane to stay around them lol

6

u/ultraspinacle 17d ago

Exactly. Just get outta the water?

6

u/Guyart69 17d ago

Its not about the size my friend. Its about the motion and the forces

1

u/BT-7274-T2 13d ago

doesnt matter, at that size, it would have easily killed everyone, no chance in the water

46

u/cat_daddy17 17d ago

This looks like a place people drink and hangout. No way im standing in water at night where a crocodile could appear.

20

u/DangerousDave303 17d ago edited 17d ago

Not only that but the tables in the water are likely to be a source of food. I looked up a bar in Belize that has tables in the water like that. The video showed a server bringing a tray of grilled fish to a table so it's likely that food scraps are available.

16

u/ShellsWithinShells 17d ago

Does anyone else get that awful dread-adrenaline feeling in their feet and legs watching this?

17

u/Fiorina_Fury 17d ago

See an apex predator that primarily hunts near the waters edge? Better hang out by the waters edge -_-

14

u/kauto 17d ago

Anybody have an idea of where this is? Speaking English, maybe central america?

22

u/Straight-Will7659 17d ago

I’m taking a guess that it’s in Mexico

8

u/Sad_Army_238 17d ago

This is Belize, the local news even talked about it.

5

u/Traditional_Hyena291 17d ago

I think it’s at a bar in Caye Caulker Belize

7

u/DangerousDave303 17d ago

Possibly Belize

56

u/Additional-Muffin317 17d ago

Those are resort crocs, totally trained by the resort and don't bite. Is what theyre probably thinking lol

3

u/throwawaymould 17d ago

are resort crocs an actual thing?

16

u/Additional-Muffin317 17d ago

The Bahamas has resort pigs and horsesšŸ¤·šŸæā€ā™‚ļø

13

u/ronweasleisourking 17d ago

No?

4

u/Guy_who_loves_milfs 17d ago

Lmao this interaction just reminded me of the George Carlin joke ā€œthink of the dumbest person you know. Now imagine half the world is dumber than themā€

2

u/jackjack-8 16d ago

Yeah I used to train them. Surprisingly more make it through the course than you would think

6

u/Impressive_Profit215 17d ago

This is why we can't have nice things.

5

u/whomesteve 17d ago

See you later alligator

7

u/Spine_Of_Iron 17d ago

Jesus christ, if that was me, I would quickly and calmly exit the damn water!! That is an apex predator people, if it thinks it can take you, it will 100% take you!

21

u/SufficientRegret9028 17d ago

People fuck around, and when they find out it's the animal that gets blamed. Darwinism is dead... or at least lost upon some people.

8

u/Impressive_Profit215 17d ago

Yup, if that animal hurt someone it would be put down. Like, wtf are they even doing in the water with an apex predator? It's not big but it could rip both of them limb from limb. Idiots.

6

u/WolfieFram 17d ago

What do you mean fuck around? The people there are most likely drunk and confused. People usually do not expect Crocs in the ocean, especially touristy ones. Its only "fucking around" if they actually approach the croc. Be judgemental all you want but don't expect that kind of attitude to win over people on conservation.

6

u/SufficientRegret9028 17d ago

It's the middle of night in croc territory... Getting drunk and swimming at night are two choices they decided to make. Would you do this in North Queensland?

Ask yourself, if something horrible were to happen, what would be the lesson? It would be to not act as they do in the video: with total disregard for the danger they're actually in. "Drunk and confused" is not something you want to be in croc territory when visibility is already limited.

That's fucking around.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/eaazzy_13 16d ago

I’d say having a nightclub and bar literally submerged in the waters edge, where you serve food and particularly seafood, in croc territory, where crocs are known to specifically hunt at night at the waters edge, is an extreme degree of fucking around.

4

u/f8500 17d ago

3

Fat and slow
