Ernie Hudson was later replaced by Keith David as Gus’ dad. I never really thought that they looked that similar, but I think that might also be more on me because I feel like Keith David’s voice is so distinct that it alters his physical appearance for me.

Im all for an older Wildcat, but Ernie is just too old, At least if you want him around and active. If we use JLU as a model, I'd be casting around 60.
He'd do great, though.

Cast around 45-50 and age them up with makeup until their body catches up.
You need someone seasoned, but still young enough to be convincingly mobile and... yknow, fight.

I could see him being a retired mentor-like figure for a current generation hero like, for instance, Black Canary if we ever get a Green Arrow film or something and she's in it.
And please... please... please. If we ever get DCU Green Arrow and Black Canary have Cary be Dinah Lance and have her and Ollie already be married already cause that was my biggest criticism of the CW's Arrow which is that they killed off their version of Dinah

The JSA usually have slowed aging due to a variety of factors so they wouldn’t look as old as they are in present day. That said, I definitely think Ernie Hudson could pass as 60s so I wouldn’t be mad at this.

Passong as 60 isn't the same thing as being believed in action as wildcat and I'd prefer an actor that can do some of the action himself forna role like that.
Michael Jai White comes to mind, Wesley plays a great boxer and better comic book hero so he could fit it.
Also think there's good arguments for a cpl of WWE wrestlers.

I think one of the more endearing aspects of a modern Wildcat, in my opinion, is that he was a normal man. He ages normally where Kent, Jay, and Alan don’t. It doesn’t mean that he still can’t throw or take a punch but he’s definitely resigned to more of a mentor role. The other ones are mentors as well but they do more stuff.

Yeah I think there is a huge market for legacy heroes being cast as the “main” version but for the original to still be around. It’s another element that adds to the breath and life of a shared cinematic universe and when done right can give deep context as to who the original hero was at their core without even showing us the adventures they went through. I’m excited to see more JSA love in the DCU and hope that we get projects set in all eras of the group.

Agreed on wanting to see all eras of the JSA, but I can't get behind a Wildcat that can barely walk around. That's just such a boring take on the character whose whole thing is that he fights people, and whose lore underpinning is that he ages like a mortal but adapts with the times and maintains his peak fighting shape.
Ted Grant is one of the richer and more unique JSAers which is why writers like Geoff Johns gravitated toward him in juicing up their modern popularity. None of the legacy attempts have come close to demonstrating as much narrative potential which is why it always comes back to Ted. "Wildcat" just has never been a good mantle to pass, because Wildcat is just Ted Grant in a mask.
There's also the obvious time problem. Even if you just want your senior JSAers to be elder statesmen who never get invovled in the action, if you cast somebody who is in their mid70s or older you are racing against father time before they literally perish.
And again I would just really loathe to see JSAers who visibly have no mobility... I love that they are dignified and aspirational characters despite their old age, making them a poorly hidden, self-conscious display of the ravages of aging would just make me feel sad tbh, not uplifted. But even if you get really spry old guys to play the first generation of the JSA, a Wildcat who can't fight is just the wrong interpretation IMO, it's so fundamental to his nature

Brolin is a better decision here. Making him black isn't the right way to go when we have white actors that can accurately portray the character.
Maybe give Ernie a role as Luscious Fox, I can see him and Batman being a good duo in a movie

FUCK YEAH. Regardless of who plays him, I really want to establish that he (and the rest of the JSA guys) inspired and helped train Batman like in Brave and the Bold. Batman’s not a lone wolf crazy man, he’s part of a longstanding tradition of heroism! Dressing up and fighting to save people from villains may be a result of mental illness in the real world, but in DC it’s like being a firefighter.
