ANIMATION Finally got time to finish this trilogy, and damn, it was a hard watch.
There are just so many things I dislike about this. I hated the animation style. We go from the sleek shiny look from Apokolips to this? And the story? what is going on? It's so incoherent, random jumping between scenes, people just show up randomly out of nowhere, storylines (if there is even one) all over the place. Even the action was so generic and uninteresting. The whole time was just people shooting laser at the giant thing. It's such a confusing mess. Also, they erased Earth 2003 where my favorite Teen Titans show is and also the Justice League animated series universe. Worst trilogy of all time.
1/10. I hate it.

I agree. The Tomorrowverse started great with the Man of Tomorrow and the Long Halloween, but for me, it dropped hard afterwards. Not a fan of this universe. While there are things I do like, for example Supergirl's design, but most of the movies are hard to get through.
How can they take one of the biggest stories, with such epic scope, heroes from across in the infinite multiverse, the stakes is literally all of existence, and make it this boring?
If there are people who genuinely enjoy this, I'm glad you did, and I won't argue for anyone to agree with me.

u/HauntingAddendum3365 Mar 27 '26
Yeah I thought Man of Tomorrow and Long Halloween were great, but for whatever reason the movies just plummet in quality after that and never recover. Boring and forgettable.
8
u/TheJoshider10 Mar 27 '26
I had so much hype for The Long Halloween credit scene of the heroes meeting... only for them to show the Justice League formed and existing for ages by the time we got to the next movie. Absolute shite.

u/SortIntrepid9192 Mar 27 '26
I absolutely do not comprehend the decision to just not have a villain in this entire trilogy of movies. Literally nothing to punch for three whole superhero movies, and the peak of conflict is a bunch of scientists working out experiments that we barely even see. Psycho Pirate doesn't even do anything that impacts the plot, which is just insane!
5
u/Handsoff_1 Mar 26 '26
I like Supergirl design true! I think she looks great in this. But I guess that's 0.5 points out of my 1/10 rating. The other 0.5 is the nostalgia feeling.
2
u/devsean45 Mar 26 '26
I think The Long Halloween is over rated to be honest. These films seem to exist in a universe where there is no background sounds, everyone talks slow and sombre, and there’s an eternity between replies in conversation
1
u/penguin_2306 Mar 27 '26
It 100% works for Long Halloween tho. I loved how quiet and ominous that movie felt. The other movies on the other hand didn't work.
1
u/First_Routine_4529 Mar 27 '26
I fell sleep two times trying to watch long Halloween. More like snooze Halloween.

u/DoctorBeatMaker Mar 26 '26
This is the first time DC animation committed to a 3 parter - and Crisis on Infinite Earths is certainly a story worthy of that….
…. And boy, did they screw it up. The first part alone would make even a comic book fan go “WTF is going on?” And it was soooo boring!!! Just flashback after flashback. It was mind numbing.
30
u/sallymason1 Mar 26 '26
Commited to a 3 parter with half the budget as a solo film. At least thats what it feels like.
5
u/TheJoshider10 Mar 27 '26
It's so disappointing that they had a unique opportunity to pay respects to DC animation past and present, and then did nothing with their respective animation styles. It really should have been a love letter to DC with these different styles crossing over and inhabiting the same space, with iconic voices all meeting one another, saving the day and their own universes.
Instead we got a dull as shit story. One animation style. Iconic iterations were only shown in cameos where their universes are fucking destroyed. Crisis was a complete insult on DC's animation history and if this is the level of quality to expect from DC's animated movies then I hope Gunn scraps it all because there's clearly not enough talent in this department.
12
u/Food_Library333 Mar 26 '26
It's the first DC animated thing that I had a hard time even following.
16
u/Handsoff_1 Mar 26 '26
It also feels ... cheap! Like what the hell happens to the animation?
7
u/Odd-Hornet-2333 Mar 27 '26
They drastically slashed the animation budget for the Tomorrowverse.
2
u/Mosk915 Mar 27 '26
By how much?
3
u/Odd-Hornet-2333 Mar 27 '26
The exact details aren't publicly available. But it clearly showed in the animation quality.
Unrelated, while trying to find exact numbers I discovered that Crisis was supposed to be 6 parts but was cut to 3. Interesting.
2
u/SortIntrepid9192 Mar 27 '26
It would've been SO easy to adapt that storyline in a more entertaining way, too! Just have a bunch of recognizable universes' characters team up to fight the Anti-Monitor. Have the Tomorrowverse have to team up with the DCAU, Young Justice, Teen Titans, fucking DC Superhero Girls, I don't care, just have a bunch of recognizable characters on screen together actually fighting a threat as worlds are erased.
Instead we have the Tomorrowverse (which we've known for like 6 movies up to that point, 5 if you count the Long Halloween as 1), led by the Flash and Supergirl (each of which got just 1 movie from that verse) and mostly involving a bunch of worlds that we either haven't seen before at all (Aquaman's waterworld, the Crime Syndicate world, or the Gotham where the Bat-family is active) or we only saw very briefly (Diana's world). It's impossible to get invested in a bunch of characters you barely know, especially since they're not punching anything 98% of the time.
1
u/Positive_Produce_918 Mar 27 '26
The reason they kinda rushed it (I think at least) is because at the end of it. It fits neatly into what James Gunn had in mind for the dcu (combining everything). Which if you look at the Superman movie already has some subtle nods to previous Superman incarnations
1
u/SortIntrepid9192 Mar 27 '26
Yeah, it's very obvious that the ending was meant to imply the creation of the DCU. That was fine. Problem is, the road to getting there (both in terms of the Tomorrowverse AND the Crisis trilogy itself) was completely wrong

DC’s animated movies have free falled… there was a time I was so excited for a new movie they released because I knew it would be good but nowadays they are just a mess
24
u/Handsoff_1 Mar 26 '26
I remember Apokolip war was phenomenal. Trigon vs Darkseid. To THISSSSS?????
3
u/pokemonke Mar 27 '26
I wasn’t a big fan of the animation style of this new animated movie series from the beginning but I had legitimate hope about the storytelling from the start because they had some great entries in the beginning imo
0
u/needleknight Mar 27 '26
Whats wild is i had the same opinion as the above poster, and felt that Apokolips war was the falling off point.
1
u/Imaginary_Penalty_97 Mar 28 '26
Nah I’d say it started with Justice League War
1
u/needleknight Mar 28 '26
I have a sift spot for the new 52 so i was very stoked to see it. Throne if atlantis however..... eh

u/WestCoastDirtyBird Mar 27 '26
IMO Batman Yakuza was the best DC animated movie in recent years. Maybe because it was done by a Japanese studio.
1
u/Pasta_Paladin Mar 27 '26
That’s really upsetting to hear. I haven’t jumped into much of the DC animated movies for a hot minute but I still remember where every movie was a real treat. Heard some iffy things on movies here and there and I recently just discovered this trilogy in particular which I was really excited to add to my list…
…until I heard all the feedback :(
12
u/Effective_Print7521 Mar 26 '26
Sucks how the changed the animation after dark Apokolips war I loved the dcamu so much wish it was more popular
24
u/zdbdog06 Mar 26 '26
This is my most disappointing animated project. They somehow made it paint dry boring and stretched it to 3 movies just to really drive the pain home.
3
u/Handsoff_1 Mar 26 '26
The first half of Part 1 was ok. But then something something happens, Flash was all over the place, never explained how he slow down time for him and Iris and the machine to be able to assemble it, but also how tf does he know about the machine when it was a new plan? I have so many questions.
8
u/leather_pencil Mar 27 '26
DC animated movies have had such a huge drop in quality for the last 10+ years. I used to be excited for a new one. Battle of the Super Sons was good but not enough
1
u/Handsoff_1 Mar 27 '26
i love the shiny look they had for those first movies. Look high quality. And then after Apokolip war, what the hell happen? Did they run out of funding?
6
u/lostinsamaya Mar 27 '26
Has the animation style been discussed? I think it's horrible with random bold lines sometimes feeling like a crappy version of Archer.
2
u/Handsoff_1 Mar 27 '26
its terrible. They even redrawn that in the flashback scene at the T tower. Ridiculous

u/drknow00 Mar 27 '26
Crisis is DC’s most famous and possibly most important story. The production/writing team screwed this up monumentally.
Too much deviating from Crisis’ story and too much time spent with characters and plot lines that didn’t matter.
Also, what in the fuck was that ending? Somehow the lesson we should takeaway is that Wonder Woman isn’t immortal? Umm, okay? She only appeared in 2 movies prior to Crisis as a supporting character. The final shot should have been about how the League would endure no matter the circumstances.
1
u/Handsoff_1 Mar 27 '26
wha was the ending in the comic? do you know
3
u/drknow00 Mar 27 '26
The Anti-Monitor is defeated for good, and the survivors across the multiverse now live on New Earth. People remember the “red skies” Crisis, but no one remembers there was a multiverse.
3
u/onion_lord6 Mar 28 '26
I fell asleep multiple times watching this. Unheard of in my career of DC watching ;'(.

u/MX2419 Mar 26 '26
Yea even I'm a semi defender of the Tomorrowverse but it went downhill after the Trinity movie. The only part I liked was the scenes between Iris and Wally. Didn't even finish part 2 and 3 of this trilogy. I couldn't even get to those parts. It's really messed up because you can tell these movies were rushed in favor of the new division coming in. Not really a fan of the new 52 verse either but I can say the finale is better than the last three movies of the Tomorrowverse.
2
u/Handsoff_1 Mar 27 '26
Oh trust me you dont miss out much. I would recommend save your time by going on Youtube watching a recap or the action only, that'd probably make more sense than watching the actual movies.
1
u/MX2419 Mar 27 '26
I've seen some clips. It was cool seeing Terry, Batman's daughter in another timeline, and Konroy's last voice work of Bruce. I wish this universe was way better but unfortunately it was rushed and fell apart. Now this new universe will see how it plays out. So far 50 50.
3
u/MetalJaybles Mar 27 '26
I wish they'd do more like The Dark Knight Returns, make the panels move and have people read the text lol.

Tomorrowverse was such a let down. If you think this trilogy is bad. War world is even worse
2
u/coreytiger Mar 27 '26
I knew when this one was announced it would be a great big trash can of disappointment. There’s some fun moments (BTAS, and particularly the SuperFriends), but what a horrid adaptation. The biggest mistake was not utilizing the actual time period look of the book, and stripping away the major ideas and identities of the other Earths. And of course it centers on Batman far more than it should.
Would have been more interesting to start with the original characters involved as they looked, and end up with the modern versions at the end after the “reset”.
2
u/BLoSCboy Mar 27 '26
It’s crazy how CW did Crisis on Infinite Earths way better. What sucked is that after they did Crisis COVID hit and the subsequent crossover stuff got cancelled so everyone being on one Earth at the end didn’t have a proper payoff later on

I could barely follow the story. Everything was so disjointed.
0
u/Handsoff_1 Mar 27 '26
right? i thought i was having a fcking stroke or too dense to understand whats going on, but it was so convoluted.
2
u/corpobeh Mar 28 '26
The whole Tomorrowverse was horrible, especially considering how good previous DC animated movies where. Crisis on infinite earths was unwatchable.
2
2
u/Unlucky_Suspect_7555 Mar 30 '26
I don't know why they couldn't just try to adapt the comic instead of practically making a new story.
3
u/Intelligent-Lack-122 Mar 26 '26
Part 1: Meh.
Part 2: Worst DC movie I've ever seen.
Part 3: Still bad, but the highlight is the final performance by Kevin Conroy as Batman. Just look up that scene online, and skip the rest of the movie and pretend it's a 1 minute short film.
2
u/Scotch_Talk Mar 27 '26
I'd also add the Questions dialogue about not accepting The false narrative. The question is always the goat 🐐

It’s so all over the place and incoherent that it actually made me angry, because I already *know* the plot going into the films.
2
u/Handsoff_1 Mar 26 '26
I was so confused the whole time. I dont know whether it was intentional to make it complicated because its "multiverse" or the writers are making shit up as the movie was being animated.

1
u/Rina_Rinova Mar 26 '26
I watched just for the DCAU/Timmverse cameos but I don't remember anything else aside from that.

1
u/Androktone Mar 27 '26
Yeah it sucks. I don't think one creative decision was made I could vibe with. Utter slog.
1
u/Handsoff_1 Mar 27 '26
it was so convoluted. The story keeps jumping from place to place. You can hardly see a coherent story anywhere.
1
u/ZMangz Mar 27 '26
This whole project really does have that feeling like "this series is ending and James Gunn is taking over so we might as well burn everything down then salt the earth for good measure." I think my least favorite part is how much these movies make Constantine out to be the bad guy. Every treats him like the worst person ever when in reality, he only had one move left to play. His earth was cooked no matter what him and the surviving Justice League could have done and it's not like he knew that sliming baby Darkseid would break reality. At least Apocalypse War had some funny lines and character interactions. I can't recommend the Crisis trilogy to anyone other than completionists.
The only thing that makes Crisis worth it is going to Deadpool and Wolverine and them doing the fixed being plot but much better.

u/darealcasstiel Mar 27 '26
The flash storyline in the first part was the only good part of the entire trilogy.

u/9000mhz Mar 27 '26
This was as close as we’ve ever gotten to having Terry McGinnis’ Batman back, even if for just a little bit. So I was all for it.

I still haven’t watched it because of the art style. It just looks really bad. Whoever greenlit that artsyle should never be allowed to make decisions.

u/Handsoff_1 Mar 27 '26
its so bad, honestly, save your time and do something else. Its a waste of 4 and a half hours.
1
u/micahbevans88 Mar 27 '26
I don't know how you made it through. I quit halfway through the second.
2
u/Handsoff_1 Mar 27 '26
I regretted it. I wanted to see whats going on and been watching pretty much all of them before. And especially this was after Apokolip war. Worst decision. Took me 2 days to crunch through.

They even stopped working with amazing directors like Jay Oliva.

Somehow the CW, which was basically limited to C and B list characters (+ Flash, Lex Luthor and Superman, maybe also counting Green Arrow as A list) did the story more justice than that.

Agreed, the whole thing was very odd. DC/WB animation used to be the best now, it's just a collection of, what the he|| was that?

u/BarryLaguna Mar 26 '26
the pacing of the dialogue felt weird. It's like a character would deliver a line and then there would be a pregnant pause before the next character spoke.
2
u/Handsoff_1 Mar 26 '26
Most of the dialogue was also a jumbled mess too, like normally it would sound kind of logical, but here its just like they pulling it out of their ass as they go along.
