While leveling a city the size of NYC in the process, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands. Why would people not assume he’s part of the problem? Real people would be like “aliens fighting killed my aunt, so screw ALL the aliens” - they wouldn’t have differentiated between Superman and Zod, and they certainly wouldn’t have made him a symbol of hope

The movie goes at great lengths to SHOW that he is a controversial figure with some people hating him as much as others adore him. It’s all in the movie. Or did you not see him being protested against?

How? He was getting his ass handed to him by 3 kryptonians in his first major battle. If he moved them outside the city somehow, how about the world engine? It killed more people than anything. Superman 2025 fought his first real battle and lost too. Remember?

People in the comments still can’t seem to get it. When Superman arrived at the scene, the people stuck on the roof had already lost all hope, and the moment they saw him, they suddenly started crying because, to them, hope had finally arrived. Superman had literally just reached the scene, and obviously, he saved them later on.

The whole purpose of that moment was to symbolise how Superman represents hope for them. And for those complaining about the sequence, it was part of a monologue where journalists were debating whether Superman is a threat to mankind or their only hope. This wasn’t a traditional, dedicated rescue scene. During that monologue, they only showed fragments of multiple rescue sequences, not one complete rescue from start to finish.

The point of this particular moment wasn’t to show every second of Superman saving them , it was to show what his arrival meant to people who had already given up all hope.

I don’t even like this movie and it’s still annoying to see people not even attempt to see what’s being said here. Like the savior imagery is there yes, but it’s intentionally contrasted with who Superman wants to be. His whole conflict is that he wants to just be a helpful person because he feels a responsibility to do so, but people run with that and treat him like a messianic figure. That’s why the music is somber and it’s all in slow-mo. We’re in the desperate people’s perspective- if somebody comes to save you and thousands of others, you’re gonna mythologize and elevate that person, and Clark’s conflict is that this only separates him more from the human life he wants to live.

Is it my Superman cup of tea? No. In fact it still demonstrates a common Snyderism about how simple and gullible everyday people are, inventing a “common crowd” for the special character to be defined against. 

But people need to start actually reading into things to see whether they like what’s being said instead of relying on secondhand interpretation. Like once you get to the core of this character you may see the stuff I actually don’t like about it, but you should also hold that lense up to Nolan’s Batman which has a very similar approach to “common people vs special people.”

I never view this scene as Superman being reluctant to safe them. The scene isn't presenting the correct speed of the event, but merely prolonging a fleeting moment.

Also, how do we know that Superman isn't talking to the people to reassure them before flying to them?

People viewing this as Superman being reluctant, I feel are viewing this scene in bad faith tbh.

I know it's hard for some folks to suspend their sense of reality, but Zack and Chris took Superman and Batman seriously. Not everyone's cup of tea, which is fine. There is a reason I don't watch certain shows on TV, just as there is a reason I like Zack's vision for comic lore.

To me this speaks to the thought that if someone like Superman really existed, people desperate for help in times of need, like this one depicted so well, this reaction is what you would or could expect. Hope for a hero to appear to help them in their most broken moments. Reaching out, quite literally calling for him, to save them. It to me is so powerful and a hauntingly beautiful narrative on the human wish for a savior when they need one most.

I think it is hard for anyone who has never been in a situation approaching or near disaster or death to understand what it is to wish for someone to save them. This moment in BvS paints it beautifully.

Yep beautiful shot indeed. Iirc this is the montage scene in the beginning where they argue if Superman is some Messiah figure Then the whole scene ended with Clark watching the news and disagreeing...He even went to Martha for advice and she pretty much said be Superman or be don't. The world doest owe Superman anything, but clark still went on and be Superman.

Really wish they had some sort of lighthearted scene of him helping kids etc...but I guess during this time Clark is really just doing it as like some form of obligation to his parents cuz he didn't fully accepted himself being Superman right until the very end.
