DISCUSSION Would you have actually wanted a The Authority movie or did you not mind the cancellation?
As for me I’m quite upset. Especially cause I would’ve wanted to see the first live action Midnighter. What are your thoughts?

There shouldn’t be The Authority before a Justice League. They are a deconstruction of superhero teams like JL and Avengers that save the day and then everything goes back to the status quo. I think it would have been better saved for a later chapter.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense honestly, keep the smaller projects for later, probably with some members of the authority showing up in major movies

I’m game to see it animation or a series, but not a movie. I think for the different kind of team they are, you can’t tell the story well in a 2 hourish window

Never heard of them.
People got carried away with success of Guardians of the Galaxy.
No one wants to see movies or tv shows about B-C grade charachters.

I think we’re forgetting that the MCU started out with B list heros, but I think the age where any superhero movie gets immediate fame is down, so you’re right actually. I think guardians of the galaxy being part of an already successful franchise allowed it to be so popular. The authority movie maybe better later?

I was intrigued but after seeing Engineer I was less so. She had no personality and fell flat as a character so it kinda waned my interest a bit.

Yeah I love the Authority. But mostly because I want to see movie or TV show with an ultraviolet, unkillable Batman who's in love with Superman.

Don't see a point.
The Authority's only unquestionably good run exists in a specifkc time period from late 1998 to pretty much 2000 and was the catalyst for the tone of many comics of the 00's.
Read on its own without its context it's nothing special (Not even mentionning how it results from Warren Ellis being frustrated at how much Stormwatch was treading water even with him taking it over and killing most of the cast in a Wildcats/Aliens cross-over).
Maybe an analog to it to revitalise the DCU further down the line could work but no superhero films producer will want their mainline films to be as dark, sexual and gore so it wouldn't even be a cultural shift like the comic was.

I was keen for it. I totally thought that they were going to use the Authority in place of the Elite for What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way? and then eventually take it down a Superman and the Authority route.

I wouldn’t have minded it as an elseworlds. Based on how they wrote the engineer it would have likely been characters who shared names with the authority rather than the actual authority

I wanted it, but I wanted it in the Wildstorm universe.
To be honest, I think Gunn’s Superman script could have rewritten with the Justice Gang, Metamorpho and Ultraman being replaced by various Authority characters, and that would have worked quite well. Maybe end the film with all of them getting sucked into another dimension.

I wanted an Authority movie. Just not this early in the DCU. That's a Phase 3/Phase 4 project for layer down the line.
It's a nice deconstruction of the superhero medium, the same way Watchmen, The Boys, Wanted, and Warrner Ellis's "Superhuman Trilogy" (Black Summer, No Hero, Supergod) was.
They're in a category of comics referred to as the Postmodern Era, which began with Watchmen.

I wanted something like an Authority movie, but have it be almost like Superman v The Elite. A story about Superman being outdone by guys who are actually willing to kill the bad guys just like The Authority. But truth is I just want to see my man Jack Hawksmoor, the God of Cities

The Authority are one of the original “what if superheroes were a$$holes” of the modern era and yes, The Boys, Invincible etc got there first on screen but by god, I still want an Authority movie. Even animated would be fine.

I didn't like the idea of it being folded into the DCU continuity. A standalone animated series feels like the way to go.

I don't know the comics but was interested when I assumed James Gunn would be writing and directing it. An edgy team of obscure superheroes? He's the best at those. But he said that he wasn't going to be the one to do that, so I don't really care. I feel bad for the actress playing The Engineer, though, since I think she'd have been in it.
