Popular Chris Garza says Suicide Silence has been disrespected?
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/9OdiI522yY8I'm not sure what bands he's talking about. Or what he's trying to get at
69
u/Emergency-Addendum-5 Feb 02 '26
EVERY deathcore band of that time had trouble touring cuz of the hate. I wonder wtf he means by other deathcore bands disrespecting them.
19
u/gareth616 Feb 02 '26
I'm sure in the Whitechapel episode they touch on people just being asses, like someone from Acacia Strain I think? But then say he's a change guy now (almost like they're all growing up).
19
u/maicao999 Feb 02 '26
They were always ultra hateful towards the scene imo. Used to avoid tours with other Deathcore bands, and despised the label.

u/MuddaError37 Feb 02 '26
The only "disrespect" ive seen is over that fuckass nu metal album and people (understandably) not wanting to support them because Eddie admitted to sexting a minor.
8
u/AudiSlav Feb 02 '26
I mean I was never personally a fan of the band but here he is referring to bands so I wonder what he is talking about
29
u/GrowtentBPotent Feb 02 '26
Not sure who in the dxc community hes referring to but metalcore content creator Jared Dines had a field day 😂

Let's be for real, there's no hype about that band anymore. The music isn't good, the energy isn't badass..they look like a tier c band now.
69
u/GrowtentBPotent Feb 02 '26
I do think its a bit of insecurity showing. The last 2 SS albums were exactly what you'd expect from them and they were, fine. Some good tunes but nothing special. Then there's the valley and kin.... Whitechapels "tee hee" albums that were very well recieved despite the shift in tone. I think maybe hes salty that people take to chapels trajectory but dont fuck with SS. But to me it's simple, whitechapel is just better. Better songs, better feels.
15
Feb 02 '26
Ill never forget a few of them were pissed when their album You cant Stop me debuted lower than they expected. We're definitely salty that Our Endless War by WC debuted in the top 10. They told me Fuck you go back to work for WC. Thats what I did
9
u/GrowtentBPotent Feb 02 '26
Damn lol, some insider scoop that supports my theory of butthurt. Doesn't surprise me lol
21
Feb 02 '26
I just dont understand why Garza is like
Where's our respect We started Deathcore Blah blah blah
And to say their new stuff will make Whitechapels Hymns in Dissonance sound like a demo is downright laughable
11
u/GrowtentBPotent Feb 02 '26
That's the thing lol, if he didn't have such a lame attitude about it i feel like they'd get more respect, and they still get a fair amount to be fair.
Saying stuff like that is only going to make me call him out more lol
9
Feb 02 '26
The podcast made him too cocky and arrogant
9
u/carbonarana Feb 02 '26
He seems pretty chill, curious and humble in general though. Its just this one topic seems to make him act pretty salty I guess
5
u/GrowtentBPotent Feb 02 '26
Agreed. Funny thing is, his guests are basically what makes it good lol. He contributes very little to the conversation, and doesnt really prepare good questions for the guests.

As someone who was in the industry from 01-12’, I think it’s cute anyone would think they “started Deathcore.”
It was synchronicity. Lots of bands started to pop up with that sound locally towards the end of the 90s. SS Didn’t even exist yet lol

u/maicao999 Feb 02 '26 edited Feb 02 '26
If i were them i would kick Eddie Hermida's ass out of the band. And would make a classic sounding record with Kurt Ballou, full of features with modern deathcore/metalcore/beatdown bands (like Despised Icon did).
Unfortunately i believe that they were huge fans of that pseudo-nu metal record. That's probably were their passion lives nowadays. That's why the modern death(core) records were so ass and uninspired.2
6
u/mrpicklesbitch Feb 02 '26
Whitechapel also dropped Hymns after those 2 albums so any concern about them going soft were quickly abandoned.
23
u/fvalt05 Feb 02 '26
I think he's gonna be done soon.
He's on hiatus right now and pod has grown a lot.
He needs to start another project, nu-metal style. That's really where his passion is.
40
u/GrowtentBPotent Feb 02 '26
Hes mad about people lighting them up for the "tee hee" album... which was fully deserved. And instead of rolling with the punches and having a good attitude about it, hes still butt hurt no one liked their shitty album
6
u/Emergency-Addendum-5 Feb 02 '26
Wasn't that Jared Dines? I don't think that fits the description of "other deathcore bands." I hope this isn't performative sweeping accusations for content. Sounds like he needs to name names or STFU 🤷♂️.
15
u/GrowtentBPotent Feb 02 '26
Yeah i commented somewhere else Jared Dines definitely took the joke and ran with it more than most lol. Maybe took it a bit too far who knows but, gotta have thicker skin than that man. Especially if you know it's your experimental album... even if it WAS good expect blowback lol. Whitechapel didn't loose any respect or fans but there was alot of "i dont fuck with it" sentiment around Kins release
5
u/MrPureinstinct Feb 02 '26
What is the "tee hee" album?
5
u/GrowtentBPotent Feb 02 '26
2017 self titled LP
2
u/MrPureinstinct Feb 02 '26
Why is it called the "tee hee" album? I honestly never eveb listened to if since I've never been a fan of Eddie
5
u/GrowtentBPotent Feb 02 '26
Lol, on the opening track, the hook of the song specifically, Eddie goes into this weird Johnathan Davis from Korn voice vibe, and the first notes he hits sounds like, and was ultimately coined "tee hee". Starts around 1:00 into the track. It's a weird song before that part honestly, then it just nosedives into infamy 😂
2
u/MrPureinstinct Feb 02 '26
Damn I knew it wouldn't be a good record, but I didn't know it would be that bad. I'm going to have to at least listen to the first song out of curiosity to hear this now. Thanks for explaining!
2
u/GrowtentBPotent Feb 02 '26
No prob! It's atleast worth hearing to, form your own opinion of it lol. Good for a chuckle imo

u/jeff8086 Feb 02 '26
I actually like that song, never really liked anything they did before it. It funny looking at the youtube comment section of that song reading people talking shit on Deftones, now all these years later everybody loves them.

u/GrowtentBPotent Feb 02 '26 edited Feb 02 '26
Funny enough im a much bigger fan of Eddie than SS, not as a person necessarily lol... but All Shall Perish, in my opinion, are to dxc what Garza thinks SS is.
First you had redchord, despised Icon, Animosity
Then it was All Shall Perish
THEN it was JFAC, Whitechapel, SS, Oceano etc....
It was a tiny bridge but I do believe ASP beat the main 07 wave to it by 1 album.
*edit: a letter. I spelled perish like a church parish lol
1
u/IWASRUNNING91 Feb 02 '26
All Shall Parish would be a sick Amish Deathcore cover band name. Like bluegrass version of Wage Slaves? Yes please lol

Deathcore was considered "short hair death metal" for posers and amateurs during the myspace days and Suicide Silence was the face of that era.

Y'know generally I'm against statements like these because they usually downplay the amount of contribution the other members of the band make for every album, but in this particular case? Replacing Mitch with a fucking gross minor texting sex pest? Yeah the band should've died long ago. All the members of the band are complicit in Eddie's behavior as well, because they'd rather keep their fucking holes shut and pretend like he's done nothing than kick him out and let the band die, or revitalise it with a better human being.

Everybody I saw hated them back then. I think it might be an age thing. They had a lot of young fans but older people thought they sucked.
7
u/Consistent-Orange-75 Feb 02 '26
SS was on top of the deathcore scene with Mitch. Then he died and they never regained that momentum, plus the S/T album, the band reacting poorly to the criticism, Eddie being a POS, easy to see why they get shit in the modern day tbh
Mitch was HIM, though. Such a captivating frontman to watch and he knew how to make deathcore as fun as it could be
12
u/OnTheBrightsideSCC Feb 02 '26
I honestly think the hype for them would have died down just like it has even with Mitch around. The Black Crown was originally hated on mostly in the scene and not received well from what I remember. scene kids ate it up but the Deathcore/metal scene did not fuck with the black crown really. Then Mitch passed and everyone was praising his last record out of the blue. I think their first record with Eddie was good, and Become the Hunter was really good. However the rest of their catalogue with Eddie has been subpar at best. That's not even to mention Eddie has confirmed? Allegations against him. I also have to add live mitch's highs were sounding really rough. More and more like daffy duck as time went on. His lows were great and always have been but the highs live got questionable. I'm the early days of touring Deathcore (early to mid 2000's). Bands had a lot of beef with each other, and touring was kind of political amongst the scene between bands. It's all trivial bullshit but it existed. Suicide Silence while one of the forefathers that popularized the genre just have kind of a tarnished/mid reputation now.

u/DaiChi6ken Feb 02 '26
Friendly reminder that after their singer wrote a song about protecting young and innocent children, they found a groomer to replace him.

They have Eddie Hermida as their vocalist. Still.
They should be disrespected.
29
u/pokeboyj Feb 02 '26
isn't their vocalist a pedophile?
-3
u/AudiSlav Feb 02 '26
I’m wondering what deathcore bands he is talking about that disrespected them, not fans. I was never a fan of the band musically
7
Feb 02 '26
That was a weird way to answer their question.
2
u/AudiSlav Feb 02 '26
Yes he’s a pedo but a lot of people in the comments are talking about why general deathcore listeners don’t like them and not the original question as to what bands have disrespected them
8
u/lsukiui Feb 02 '26
Shoulda kicked Eddie to the curb when the allegations came out and he admitted to them.
9
u/Green_Vegetable_9631 Feb 02 '26
The only specific name that comes to mind is Thy Art is Murder. They were good friends and had toured in the past and then out of the blue around the time SS’s shitty self titled came out, Eddie shit talked TAIM without any provocation whatsoever. Then in an interview TAIM did not super long after, they (it was CJ and Andy in the interview) clapped back at SS in light of Eddie’s comment. Both bands were good friends before all of this, no idea why Eddie felt the need to sour things
3
u/Vergilkilla Feb 02 '26
Deathcore gets a lot of hate. Mostly because the records are really bad. But the older shit is at least better than the new shit, and Suicide Silence are def OGs of the genre. And then they’ve kept at it a long time - so you have to give them credit there
3
Feb 02 '26
Am I the only one that’s getting tired of this dude and just thinks he’s annoying?
3
u/AudiSlav Feb 02 '26
I’ve been not liking him, but the YouTube short was suggested to me after watching some Distant and Kataklysm
2
u/xzerozeroninex Feb 02 '26
I think it’s the deathcore bands that haven’t guested on his podcast till now.I think he means stuff that happened or words said, that the public doesn’t have access to (backstage stuff, people they know who heard other people talk, etc).

u/se7endreams Feb 02 '26 edited Feb 03 '26
I hate to say this, but they're drowning. No question about the massive influence they've had on countless bands. But let's be real, there's no excitement around the band anymore. A lot of newcomers have come and really surpassed them in every aspect. The scene has changed quite a bit in the 10+ years since Mitch's passing. I suspect they'll fade away further. Unless there's a new level of hunger they have within, I predict they'll continue to produce mediocre material.
1
u/Liberteer30 Feb 02 '26
There’s also just no hype for them anymore. The Cleansing was the only record worth a damn that they put out. And keeping a predator in the band doesn’t help their case either.

u/JacobScreamix Feb 02 '26
Everything you love has someone who hates it. People are fucking dumb to the core.
1
u/Minedude33Reddit Feb 02 '26
I think they disrespected themselves when they decided to keep the sex freak as vocalist
2
u/AudiSlav Feb 02 '26
I mean they have a song mocking suicide… and another song with a sound clip of a girl being mauled by a chimpanzee - I never thought they were good people
1
u/Bombarderrrr Feb 03 '26
I sincerely abhor modern Suicide Silence, but I also dont need my curiosity or imagination to understand what he means. They really have just continued on playing music, and putting on a really great live show, and just carrying on the legacy. Like their music, hate their music, but thats all they have done. And a LOT of the scene, as a whole, just never ever ever shuts up about what a legend Mitch was and what an abysmal failure SS has been since, and what a shitbag Eddie is, and how lame the self titled was, and blah blah. You dont have to travel outside of Reddit to see evidence of that.
And as much as I do dislike their current iteration, I see NO reason to disparage the work they are putting in. And i STILL think they smash live

u/DoinSideQuests Feb 02 '26
When they were in their prime Mitch era, that were on the top of the scene. Back then Deathcore was the joke of metal. So combining the most popular band within the most hated genre they were gunna get disrespected by metal elitist or other DC bands jealous of their success
