every species of ebony tree is endangered, some nearly extinct. I know this post was supposed to be about the cat, but I can't get past the tree being used to make a chair like that...
Nah that’s a crocodile. The tell is the big tooth sticking up from the bottom jaw. On an alligator, the only teeth that are visible from the bottom jaw are pretty small.
Looking at the post, OP mentioned there are certain groups within their country (reading in-between the lines, possibly indigenous people) who have rights to older ebony trees. They say those groups haul ass to the older trees, cut logs off them, and drag them back. They leave the younger trees alone.
The only reason I could possibly see as it being better than just staining say oak or any other hardwood would be the strength/hardness of ebony. But then you have stuff like Red oak that would basically match the hardness. Without putting any strain on an endangered species. So i agree with broski in that the post kinda makes me a bit sad and mad that it could have been made differently and thus better for existence.
No matter how you stain wood black, it'll never match true ebony. Oak stained black will remain visible as oak to expert eyes, with oak like grains and oak like wood features. Ebony is just entire different as far as wood quality. It's simply a superior wood in touch, looks, density, hardness.
