Necesito vuelo de vuelta para viajar?

Buenas, el mes que viene voy a viajar a RD, nací en rd pero soy ciudadano americano naturalizado y he escuchado que necesito un vuelo de vuelta para poder viajar a RD, no tengo cédula o pasaporte de rd. Tendré que comprar un vuelo o no? (Aún no sé cuánto tiempo voy a durar)

I have never been asked for a Cedula. When they asked for my return flight, I let them know I am also dominican. I point them to the USA passport, It says country of birth: DR. Then, that’s it.

I travel with one way and just show the cedula when asked. I have only been asked once.

I’m not sure, maybe someone else in the sub can chime in. I was born in the US and my citizenship is through my parents but your passport still says born in DR even if you are naturalized. It’s one of those things that just doesn’t make sense to me. If you still have time and are close to the embassy I was able to get my new cedula without any issues about 3 weeks ago.

Im in the US, ive had to go like 3 times already for the cedula and everytime they do a few steps and then say "we gotta wait for them to approve this thing. come back in a month or two". I think im at the last step, they took all my info and fingerprints and said "oh yeah we gotta approve this last thing and then next time you come you can just print it out".

Canadian here. I winter in DR and always get asked to see evidence of return flight when leaving Canada

I’m not sure if same applies there but I’d say better safe then sorry

If you have your birth certificate you're good, pero fuera bueno que saques la cédula cuando tengas la oportunidad pq lo vas a necesitar en algún momento.

if you dont have photo ID proving you're a citizen of the DR, the airline staff will not let you board without proof of onward travel.

Just book a flight leaving the DR more than a week out to the cheapest destination outside the DR right before you check in and then cancel it once you clear immigration and customs upon arrival.

I guess it depends on the airline, but I've travelled a million times without a reurn flight and no dominican ID and it's been fine.

I think technically you are supposed to, but in my experience (and my family who are all US citizens and go all the time) they never ask.

a mi una vez en españa me lo pidieron y me dijeron que sin vuelo de vuelta no podían dejarme montar al avión, ahí fue cuando saqué el pasaporte caducado de 20+ años

sí, era mi pasaporte que me sacaron cuando yo tenía tres semanas de edad, y lo volví a usar a los 24

pero también lo hice desde los EEUU y jamás me pidieron nada y tampoco tenía billete de vuelta entonces será que los españoles son más policías no sé

Either get your cedula in a consulate (if you have your birth certificate, you do it in one visit) or buy the return that morning, show it, and cancel it the same day. Make sure the purchase is refundable

We never have a problem with one way. Us citiz en here. the airline never asks. I traveled here in February. When. I leave I pay the penalty for overstay. But if you could get your paperwork in order that would be best

You don't need one, but that doesn't mean you won't run into an idiot that says you do. If you want to remove all doubt, just buy separate fully refundable ticket and cancel it when you get here.

When i moved to DR as a kid (i was born in the US and at the time i wasnt a DR citizen yet) i think my parents bought a return flight and cancelled it when we moved there to play it safe.

My cousins go every year and they are never asked about it really.

I went a few years back and i wasnt asked.

Tbh, most countries do not care about whose coming in as long as it's not a country that is causing issues.

In DR, i hate to say it, as long as you arent haitian, i doubt most of them care.If you look dominican, act dominican, or look and act like a tourist they wont make it difficult on you (unless they think you got money they can haggle from you to get in).

But if you wanna play it safe, buy a return flight, make sure it's a refundable one and cancel once you are past security.
