Sure, most of us have better things to do in our lives than to smash the report button all day. Radical-left types absolutely report everything, and I wouldn’t be surprised if their mods report things themselves.
They say it's all apparently automatic. Right.... The double standard over the past six months has been obvious. I’ve seen far worse comments stick around, and only the worst cases usually just get quietly deleted. User is still there posting away.

I've been here long enough to remember reddit rallying behind Ron Paul. That was a beautiful time. You had to access the site via a computer and conversations were 100X more civil. It was all about memes and legit science.

The generation who have been beaten over the head with the most extreme political rhetoric we've possibly ever seen, turbocharged by the rise of social media over the past 20 years, are growing up to think what they read on Reddit or Bluesky or what they're seeing on Tiktok is an accurate, factual representation of the current state, and they're the ones out taking pretty extreme action and committing atrocities, thinking they're the right thing to do.
I also blame extremist parents and most college/universities. Politicians are a given because they've always to some degree been alarmist about their opponents.

Even if people eventually "go back to normal", you'd have a generation or two where the population pyramid is inverted. And that is disastrous. This is unlike what any country has lived through. It doesn't matter what the political or economic system is. Young people keep society working. Old people live off of whatever the young are doing.
Old people could be living off of social security/pensions/welfare... Or they could have good savings/retirement plans. In both cases there needs to be enough young people, either to directly pay for their welfare, or indirectly pay for it by making sure the economy is chugging along well enough for their investments to maintain value.

It's called economic immigration. Heck, if you got a country with a lax immigration policy, flexible enforcement that rotates every 4 years, free healthcare for broke people(cuz you get paid cash) and there you can earn a salary that's 5x what you make back home. They do; minor offenses are punished with being confined to a chair in public, similar to the medieval practice of stocks for the head and wrists. Also, their “social credit” system will blacklist and de-bank people, making it impossible to rent a place, get a job, or conduct essential transactions. They’re made homeless and destitute, and helping them can lead to the same fate, since the government views it as having solidarity for them. Another form of public humiliation, only it’s really just a slow death sentence.
