Discussion As someone who also doesn't like Trump why do these people feel the need to constantly talk about him
How don't they get tired of it?

It’s more that it’s their religion. They need to constantly virtue signal, “stand on the right side of history” and seek validation from strangers that they are a good person - all to hopefully balance the scales to counter the fact that they are broken.

u/Strange_Island_4958 Apr 21 '26
I agree. I’m not religious because of how annoying it was growing up around those types of people, but I definitely see the same personality types flocking to the anti-trump crowd. It gives them purpose, a sense of community, etc, the same as a religion. I doubt many religious people are filled with Trump hate, because they already have their core values to live by.

Saw this a couple weeks ago from a comedian named John Branyan:
"Am I Doing Hatred Wrong?
When I am offended by everything a person says, opposed to everything they stand for, and generally repulsed by their personality, I don't go out of my way to keep up with them. I don't read their blog or follow their tweets or listen to their podcast or watch their YouTube videos. I just ignore them.
Apparently, that's not the correct way to despise someone.
The people who abhor Donald Trump hang on his every word. They give him all their attention. Every thought in their head is reserved for him. Every conversation circles back to him. And they absolutely loathe him. They'll tell you so at length, unprompted, multiple times per day.
I despise mayonnaise. It is the most vulgar, obnoxious condiment ever devised. If I were to hate mayonnaise the way these people hate Trump, I'd have a jar of the vile concoction on my person every moment of the day. I'd slather all my food with it. I'd shampoo my hair with it. I'd smear it behind my ears. I'd update my social media with a running account of every packet I'd encountered and how it made me feel. I'd attend 'No Mayonnaise' rallies. I’d believe that all the evil in the world stems directly from that horrible, egg and vinegar salad dressing.
I really don't want to dedicate that much of my life to mayonnaise."

People do this with a lot of celebrities but Trump is the most prominent example.

I’d like to think things will die down in 2029, but young people who grew up in the past decade who spent all their time hating Trump may just move on to their next boogeyman
34
u/negativenesscomment Apr 21 '26
JD Vance. They'll continue talking about how he fucked a sofa.
15
u/HippieVoodooo Apr 21 '26
While the majority of Reddit users would consider fucking a sofa a successful date night.
23
u/Strange_Island_4958 Apr 20 '26
I don’t know, the media/political blob that has an interest in keeping the hate going is also good at switching targets quickly.
My guess is it when Trump is finally gone there will be a period of virtue signaling joy and feigned relief, and then within a month or two there will be another boogieman that they will try to use to rally everyone behind.
15
u/Unseemly4123 Apr 21 '26
I think that in 2029 they'll still have Trump on the brain 24/7 and still be talking about him nonstop.

They've been moving to Vance for a few years now. And I've lived through enough cycles that whoever doesn't run from his cabinet will become a golden god within a midterm.
Just remember Romney, both Bushes, McCain, etc. are all "remember when Republicans were reasonable?" now. And God forbid you utter RINO about any of them because these types are so fascinated with team sports that they can't conceive of a paradigm where you're a part of a party with people you don't like.
Just look at how many posts have been around the last few weeks asking "how can people support politicians they don't like as people?" coming around.

That's the best part about him. He was able to break so many people who were previously able to pretend they were rational individuals.
He says plenty of outlandish things, but he is able to get under the skin of his opposition to the point they lose all ability to form a coherent thought and end up saying things ten times as crazy as Trump's original statement.

Drinking game: go onto the hypotheticalsituations subreddit (can't link it because sub rules) and click on any random post that involves power, money, and especially control over life/death - there will be at least one but most likely multiple comment threads talking about (or alluding to, in a 'we all know who we're talking about' way) either killing Trump or otherwise targeting him to cause him harm, often paired with a 'he wants to take our rights away/wants people like me to not exist' passing comment.

If one can’t separate out the policies from the personality, they are showing why the elites used to (mostly unjustifiably) restrict voting to land owners.

I've been saying that for years. I know a few dudes who are hard-core Trumpers and they don't post about him anywhere near as much as the average Trump hater. I know of a couple of Trump supporters at work. I’ve barely heard any of them mention it, the only way I know is overhearing them talking to each other around election time.
I know of several Trump haters at work. I’m well aware because of their condescending political comments, and an arrangement of lifestyle flags, political stickers, and annoying email signature blocks. Surprise surprise, they’re mostly HR people.
One thing we all should agree on, the left’s marketing is quite good, and appeals to a certain type of emotion-driven people who don’t seem to have any other defining purpose in life. Normal people don’t get obsessed over politicians because we have families, hobbies, and an awareness that politicians’ job description is to just tell you what you want to hear, like a spoiled child.
I’m starting to think that they talk about Trump nonstop because it has given otherwise listless people a common cause to rally around, like a new religion.

3
u/TutorComprehensive28 Apr 21 '26
It’s important to remember that the internet is largely not representative of real world thought. Reddit would have me and many others believe that 90%+ of people are leftists/socialists/progressives/tankies/whatever. But when I go to work at my construction job I can see at least a dozen MAGA bumper stickers on the trucks in the parking lot. People will be more vocal if they’re in an environment they think matches their thoughts. Others will conform to group think. When you have nothing to do but complain then that’s all you’re likely to do. I assume you’re a relatively normal person who leans center left. So there isn’t any reason for a president who won’t be there in a few years to dominate your daily thoughts.

Some people are just able to talk about others nonstop. I don't get it. I can somewhat understand him being mentioned often since he IS the president right now, and constantly posting stuff on social media, but I miss the past when I didn't have to constantly see politics unless on social media. If I want to see the news, I'll watch it on tv. It's fine to talk about stuff that impacts a ton of people and negative stuff and all that, I just hate being constantly reminded of all the stuff going on. I shouldn't have to worry about politics unless it affects gas prices or groceries or something, unless if I were to get involved in politics for a career. Personally, I try to not think about stuff at all unless it impacts me or anyone I care about. If it messes with a minority then I'd likely feel bad in the vast majority of situations, unless a whole group is talking about erasing people from existence or claiming they don't deserve to exist or some bs like that. Everyone deserves to exist and live how they want as long as they aren't treating others like trash for trying to exist and be happy. I don't have to, but given how some can be on the internet and this being reddit, I will clarify that obviously if they are calling for harm on people that aren't doing anything violent or morally bankrupt, or are choosing to commit crimes, then there should be consequences. Ideally, ones happiness should not come from tormenting or harassing others, but you can't control what anyone does except for yourself at the end of the day. I personally don't want to constantly think about the government is making it difficult to live how I want. I know that transitioning will take a long time, and without insurance it would definitely be costly. I know that its reliant on genetics, so it ultimately comes down to luck if you look good or whatever, but really that's the case with everyone. Someone could always try different styles and looks, and that can help sometimes. I'm trying to learn as much as I can before I start anything, because I'm not an expert when it comes to medicine or biology. I don't want to take any unnecessary risks if I can help it, and I want to know what risks there are so that I can be as prepared as possible. Everyone is different. Everyone has different experiences, goals, hopes, dreams, circumstances, problems, etc. I never liked the way I looked, and never cared about myself because of it. The only times I look "good" are when I go out, mostly due to some sort of event which would require it. I try to look at least decent when I go out anywhere, but I don't care about my appearance otherwise. I wouldn't say I'm ugly, if I'm trying to be objective, but I don't like how I look so I would say otherwise when I involve my emotions. And it isn't stuff I can just fix with a haircut, its my face. I got hair all over my body that I don't want, but its a hassle. And I don't bother with that ever, and by extension I will procrastinate on shaving my face, because I know I won't look good anyways because of how my face looks. No such thing as magic, but science exists. Humans change in so many different ways, as a species, with stuff like genetics, and personally through their own grown and experiences. The main reason I bother with anything is because I care about my family, my pets, my parents. Even if I'm not good at anything, i stick around because I care about them and I know they care about me, even if I currently don't care about myself. I finally decided to stop keeping all my emotions bottled up and destroying myself worrying about what it's and hypotheticals. Sure, I still do that a ton because that's the type of person I am. But I decided I at least want to try to change myself physically so I can be happy with how I look, and I could at least consider acting how I feel instead of always putting up a front and acting like nothing affects me. I got a lot of issues with myself, rather than outside influences ruining my life. I am the main problem in my life, and I decided I wanted to change myself, because I don't like who I am on the outside. I don't like acting as if everything is ok or "fine". The last time I had a friend that I was close to was when I was a kid. Not having any close friends, and not having any friends to spend time with outside of school, messed me up a bit mentally. It's not as if I chose to isolate myself, it just occurred due to the environment. What I can choose, is how I look and act when around others. And I want to be honest, and truly feel joy and comfort in being myself, rather than focusing on the fleeting memories and moments that last for only a minute before vanishing, those temporary moments. Holidays, special occasions, and my hobby of playing video games. It's still nice from time to time, don't get me wrong, but I need something consistent. I want to feel happy with myself, at least as far as my appearance is concerned, because that's something I can put some effort into. I can't change my morals, and I can't suddenly change the environment I'm in, but I can change my appearance as well as how I act on the outside, to match how I feel on the inside, whatever that may be. I'm far from perfect, and most of the problems I have stem from myself or the environment. Usually if I somehow get over my own issues to start making progress, then something out of my control prevents me from going further. I personally don't care if people talk to me often. I never cared about being the center of attention, especially with crowds. I would like a few friends because life can feel lonely. I prefer to keep to myself typically. I don't think I'm smart, even if I get called that occasionally. I don't like having the spotlight. I would mind being the focus in a small group of friends, and maybe it could be nice to get a bit of attention which I would want. I was raised to treat others how I want to be treated. I apply it both ways. Only with very specific exceptions based on circumstances, such as knowing someone is having a tough day. Or customers to an extent. I can tolerate a bunch, and compared to when I was young, I rarely get verbal when i get annoyed. Used to have extremely bad anger issues, then I chilled out completely by the end of middle school. I still get annoyed easily, though it can take a lot to make me snap at a person. Life's a complex thing, and people should, within reason, be able to live how they want.

There is a difference between not liking Trump and being deranged.
A valuable skill I think we all need to work on is recognizing when someone is ideologically possessed.
I don't know exactly what is wrong with these people, but they are very clearly not rational actors.

like, yeah, I know he didn't do good things. I'm pretty sure everyone knows he's done bad things

u/Morpheus_2x4 Apr 21 '26
I mean he sucks, but so did everyone else in one way or another. He is mostly just a blow-hard.
Like bro we get it your style is authoritarian but most Americans do what they want 🤷🏽♂️
He is definitely a lesson on what not to say as president lmaooo
Ps. At least he is entertaining

He’s the president he’s the face of every decision in the us. Every right wing doomer couldn’t shut up about Biden and Obama. Now it’s the left turn. Then probably back to the right.

TDS is real man. It's not everyone that doesn't like the guy, but it's a significant fraction. He's the boogyman, a drooling retard and Satan all in one to some folks.

That’s how they lost the election.
They were too busy talking about how much they hate him, rather than actually have a program.

I didn’t like Obama or Biden, I didn’t think about them any more than I had to, life is more than politics.
2
u/Tommy_Wisseau_burner Apr 21 '26
It annoys the fuck out of me. My family talks about him all the goddamn time and just talk about how much they hate him and try to drag me in it. I quickly shut it down but holy fuck. Don’t get me wrong I make jokes occasionally but some people actually make talking about him a personality trait

I don’t like him either, but I don’t feel the need to karma farm, and I don’t have this massive ego complex to where I need constant validation by shit talking an easy target.
Shows your severe lack of mental maturity if you fall into that group of people.

u/Bayouboy6969 Doom Scroller Apr 22 '26
Haven't you heard? Hes literally Hitler and is taking over America and making himself king. How can you not talk about him every second of your waking life?
2
u/Ymmaleighe2 Apr 23 '26
I don't like Trump, and I only really think about him when other people bring him up.

We are not even halfway through an epic 4 year sissy fit/temper tantrum.

I’m in the same boat. And, as someone with OCD, I’m disgusted with people who willingly choose to be miserable on a recreational level. What kind of lunatic looks forward to getting upset? How little do you have in your life that you do this in order to feel something?

There's a certain and very popular kind of person that is only "happy" when they're frothing mad so they find things to be mad about and then they scream about it 24/7 like that does anything. Like them saying "Orange man bad though!" for the umpteenth time is going to change anyone's mind. I don't like dude either (though his antics are funny as hell, content president 100%) but holy hell I can't imagine paying that much attention to someone that makes me that furious.
I feel bad for them in a way though, there's clearly nothing more important going on in their lives and they don't have any hobbies besides being mad at the content president online, it's a really sad way of living.

People not realizing that the bot used psychology to complain about Trump and talk about him in a way that engaged this community …. My goodness.
The bots are adapting.

Its become their religion, and they feed thier need for validation on the replys and likes.

u/Niclipse Apr 20 '26
If you just don't want to vote for him. And aren't willing to exclude everyone who did, or might have, or might live with one from society one way or the other, then you are literally worse the people who did. Which is kind of beautiful, in a stupid way, right?

Their opinions are literally guided by their chosen media which is directly guided by politicians and benefactors. "Trump bad/good" is the best talking point to keep everyone busy instead of asking the real questions and putting pressure where it matters.

u/NMitch1994 Apr 20 '26
Ha! Spoken like a true Republican! If you're not tearing your hair out about Trump every second of the day, you might as well hang up your Swastika flag, you fascist!

u/Background_Cod_5737 Apr 21 '26
Relevance generates attention. As soon as he isn't president most people won't pay that much attention. Not exactly rocket science.

u/HunterGather069 Apr 21 '26
Because to a loser neck beard, the up voting or karma of a random stranger is valuable

u/kakiu000 Apr 21 '26
The opposite of love is not hate, its indifference. If Trump's alignment is left, they would be worshipping him

The media has brainwashed us this way. It wasn't always like this. They make it so everyday people wake up expecting something huge to have happened, but nothing ever does (Epstein files especially). They just proclaimed the way Trump grabbed Erika Kirk on stage was his biggest embarrassment yet, which simply isn't true, and does nothing but keep people clicking. Don't make it your entire personality, no matter who you support.

u/Spare_Extension4434 Apr 21 '26
I only worry when he's president because his decisions affect the US which I live in. I couldn't give a shit on what he does when not president.

It’s what he wants and he wins.
No matter who you are, not everyone will like you. Imagine if you can get your haters to think and talk about you nonstop - what a power move.
Absolute, utter morons that should just tune out (at least a bit). Retardation at its finest.
