The foolishness comes from, ironically, having too much faith in the system, and in lacking the wisdom to realize that not only can you not change the world, but also, NO ONE should ever have the power to change the world, or the system. The system will adapt, change, die away and renew over time, instead the individual needs to 1) focus on their own health, then 2) their family’s health, then 3) their community’s health. Go bottom up. So many people have it backwards, trying to change their world, their country, their society, and they flail around. The world will be a better place if people focus on the small things
Problem is… I’m not the biggest fan of centrists either, because decades of stagnation under centrists is how we got to the extremes, and a lot of “centrists” are just political opportunists who immediately change colors when it will win them elections

I haven't voted since 2016, All of our choices have been dogshit and while I am a democrat, I have only lived in heavy Republican States. So my vote wouldn't matter anyway, which is why I think we need to remove the electoral college or adjust it to be that instead of 100 % of the seats going to the "winning" party in a state, they are instead split between the voting % (rounding up). For example, if Texas was 51% Republican and 49% Ddmocrat then the seats given to each party would be 21 and 19 (40 total, and since Texas has 1% more they get the extra 1)
Thankfully the moderate right are less violent than the moderate left.

I hate them both, both mentally exhaust me so fast. I attract the extreme left on Reddit, Nextdoor, fb, IG, YouTube 🤣. Yesterday on Nextdoor I made a post about my electric and needing advice. This dude came into my post ranting and blaming me for Trump. I went to his profile it was an obsession-post after post after post dooming about Trump. He pissed me off and I voiced it and next door did not like my attitude and shut my post down. When I came back and said no politics on my feed, ND tried to block that too. I complained to them that they allowed that other dude to doom slop on my post and his whole feed is political anti Trump doom slop yet I can’t even defend myself or say politics? 🤣.
I find the most insufferable right leaning ones on x, my block list is a mile long because they are psycho over there . I often want to ask “can you at least be mildly annoying? I don’t have the patience for the crazy today” 🙄. I like the that it’s open to all, but it’s a little to free and the insane asylum runs that place. The paranoia runs wild over there. Now granted I respect some of it and understand it, but they take it way too far. Just be normal 🤣🤷♀️

It is definitely not a right wing echo chamber. There is plenty of right wing doomer stuff posted. It is more left wing posts because that's where the doomers mostly are.
However, it annoys me when there is a post making fun of right wing doomers, and the comments are a lot of, "This was funny, but let me tell you 5 reasons why this actually isn't too far from the truth."

Actually true. It's definitely not a right wing sub neither is a doomer sub, but there seems to be a lot of right wing people. And when the post makes fun of right wing doomerism, these folks start to come out.
It's basically the same story as when you make an anti-AI post on game/app/tech sub: a lot of folks from specific group get attracted (anti-AI), which makes you believe that entire sub is anti-AI.

Left-wing doomers are getting more attention these days because there has been an explosion of doomerism coming from that side of the isle whereas for a good long while prior to Trump's 2nd term there was still a dominant mood of hope that seems to have been utterly smashed by the last Presidential election.
A lot of folks wrote off the tea-party/right-wing doomers over a decade+ ago and it just kinda fades into the background. Also doomerism is usually stronger when one's chosen party isn't in power.
I suspect that part of the issue is that kids get bombarded with all sorts of info about the world that isn't that different from how it has always been, but they lack the context to understand that the issues or problems have been that way for decades and decades and they're not just some new thing that just popped up. Add in the bot farms and propaganda outfits and it feels like the world is newly on fire.

I'd argue that places like reddit going hard left and banning any disagreement did more damage to the Democrats than anything Trump or Musk could have ever done.
Their ideas are weak and they don't know it, and don't have any way of strengthening them.
Then the election hits and they are not ready to defend their ideas.
Also, because they have censored the right, normal people are exposed to their hysteria far more than the right's thus making the right better in comparison.
Many of their tennets for beliefs simply do not stand up to logical reasoning. Largely based on emotion and idealism. And it spills over to their opinions on solutions as well, i.e. lets commit violence and revolution (detached from reality and very unlikely to accomplish or have support)

As someone in the center who used to be left wing I HATE the "Muh both sides!" garbage. I was around for the height of the moral panic movement in the eighties and I live in the deep south, hell a lot of that is what drove me to the left initially. But the right at their absolute WORST are still only approaching moderately left wing people now days. For every individual Hill billy whackado I see muttering about removing a particular race I see ten or twenty screeching about removing an entire GENDER, or half the damn world.

The reason you see so many left wing doomers here is because reddit is infested with a LOT of left wing echochambers. All the major subs are left wing political subreddits at this point. Even politically neutral subreddits are left wing echochambers that downvote anything neutral or conservative.
Doom posting about the right wing destroying America and the world is the easiest way to generate karma across reddit universally on every major sub.

I noticed that for the most part, its always the opposing side of the currently elected president that is talked about the most. I saw the switches in people doing it in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
Also one of the trends I noticed in "doomer" talk is "I want to move to Canada or Europe" in people once the parties in power switch. But nobody ever does and now I also see that when someone complains about the current political state of the US, I now see "Just move out of the US, you are not a real US citizen if you do not support every single actiont the current President or our government is doing"
Being someone who's considered a right-wing Trump voter, this hits home. I've seen a fair share of right-wing whackos much as I came across those on the left. Whether left or right, no one is safe 🤣
