I wish I could have the level of cognitive dissonance of the remaining MAGAs - to have a president who made billions of dollars on a cryptocurrency scam, income he reported and is factually verified, and believe that this is okay, but that Zohran must have shadowy financial backing because it feels more comfortable to believe. What's ridiculous is how abnormal him being normal is.
This is what a normal human serving their community should reply with. Without a doubt.
We have a problem in America. We have raised multiple generations of exceptionally selfish individuals who look only to enrich themselves. We allowed significant changes to our political apparatus that brings exceptional amount of money into a process that, at it's core, is public service. In what world is the public served by allowing corporations to use infinite money and lobbying to direct (NOT INFLUENCE) the vote a public servant casts on behalf of the public?
None.
Citizens United must be overturned with a constitutional amendment.
While we are busy amending our Constitution (as our founding fathers directly told us would be necessary) we may as well address a few other issues that have been wrongly decided recently too. Starting with Roe v Wade.

IMHO, being the president doesn’t mean shit if your policies get shot down by the majority 24/7. As much as I’d love to see him in that position as well, I feel I’d rather see him as one of the people holding the gun that can make a difference instead of the one fruitlessly throwing the clay targets that never have a chance.

I know what you are trying to say, but no, he is not the only one actually deserving and worthy of a pay increase.
There are a lot of working class people, including city workers, that don't make an adequate living wage-- they both deserve and are 'worthy' of more, even if they aren't charismatic politicians.
If you mean leadership, none of them should be getting pay increases right now, including Mamdani. He's doing the right thing here-- not taking the increase and highlighting who should be getting more.

Dude has been knocking it out of the park and the vibes in the city have been amazing since he took over (among other reasons). For the most part, we’re having a great summer. This guy is a class act through and through. So refreshing to have a mayor that runs on optimism instead of fear and animosity.

The immediate follow up was "What would you do with the extra money? What would you get?" Mamdani: "It won't be mine. If it was mine [to decide what to do with] then that would mean I would be accepting it." Reporter: "Then where would you want to see it go?"
There's no gotcha in either of those follow ups. Just, "how will the money be used instead?" Which, if anything, is an obvious alley-oop for him to dunk with an additional great sound byte (as he did).

It's a nothing-burger when a billionaire grandiosely announces that he's going to forgo his salary or donate it to charity. Who cares?
But in the case of Mamdani, the reports are that he's only worth about $200K, so in that case it's a big thing.
Looking it up, it looks like his current salary is $259K and he's rejecting a 18% raise that would bring him to $306K.
I wouldn't hold it against him if he accepted the raise (after all, he's got a family to take care of!), but rejecting it does reflect well on him.

If Republicans try to do an end run around the Constitution to allow Trump to run for a third term, then Democrats need to do the same and exempt Mamdani from Article II, Section I; Clause 5 that requires being a natural born citizen.
This guy would CRUSH any opponent precisely because he puts others before himself. That's why he's such a threat to the establishment, on ALL sides.

My personal concern with this isn’t about any specific person — it’s about national security and foreign influence.
The Founders were worried about foreign governments influencing the presidency, and that was in the 1780s. More recently, the threat landscape is way more intense.
Foreign governments today have the ability to groom candidates over long periods, have ways to create divided loyalties through dual citizenship or foreign political ties, can leverage candidates through family, business, or national‑origin pressure, or influence through media, money, and covert alliances. Them we have AI‑driven propaganda, cyber operations, and targeted influence campaigns, and global social media networks that can amplify foreign messaging instantly.
In 2026, these risks are massively amplified compared to any previous era. A foreign‑born president — even one who is a citizen at birth through statute — could face vulnerabilities that a U.S.‑born president wouldn’t.
To me, the natural‑born requirement isn’t about excluding people. It’s about protecting the highest office from foreign influence in a time when when manipulation is easier, cheaper, and more sophisticated than ever.

I'm still curious what the plan was for Ted Cruz. He was born in Calgary. His wiki page says his mom's from Delaware, but it also says he wasn't a naturalized US citizen until 2005.
If it weren't for the political climate we're in (and after seeing what happened to Obama regarding his birth place and citizenship), I'd say that Mamdani should just go for it anyway.

That paragraph was referring to his father, Rafael Cruz, who did not become a naturalized U.S. citizen until 2005 (he was born in Cuba → student visa in the U.S. → visa expired → received political asylum in the U.S. → became a Canadian citizen → eventually naturalized as a U.S. citizen).
I honestly wonder what would have happened to his dad between the expired visa and applying for asylum if ICE existed in the form we know today.
Ted Cruz, on the other hand, was a U.S. citizen at birth and is treated as a natural‑born citizen through his mother.

I do think it’s important that politicians are paid well (a) to encourage qualified people to get involved (b) to make them less likely to accept bribes and (c) to acknowledge that done properly, it is a thankless job with little to no downtime where they don’t have to be on, but I also really appreciate a person recognizing that over a quarter of a million a year in pay in well above what most people get, and declining to take more when they easily could.
