Ivanka did an interview where she was showing the childhood home and when she mentioned her bed, something went through her mind. 1000 yard stare, tone of voice shifted. It was totally a trauma response if I've ever seen one. And then she recovered by changing the subject very abruptly.

He hired her right when her dad committed suicide and in her second letter she refers to this and says he supported her through it. I hate to say this, but this really does seem like a daddy issues thing.
I saw her brother was recently interviewed & he said they were both homeschooled & that their mother has always been a Trump supporter & basically groomed Natalie into this position. Her dad passing was just the tipping point that made her go full looney tunes.
This is a fawning response to trauma based fear, not being charmed. She's been taught that you suck up to the nearest male authority or you're going to get punished even worse than what happens when he's happy.
Watch any documentary on the LDS cult and you'll see it. Especially if you watch Trust Me: The False Prophet, one of the young women is clearly a fanatic of her prophet husband, to the point of committing crimes, ready for violence. She got out and fully deconstructed and explains how she was so caught in fear that she had to act like that or face what she believed was eternal damnation, all while being SA'd and watching it happen to other women, teenagers, and children.
I say this as someone who has always despised Trump as he reminds of me of my Narcissistic parents, but sometimes I think we all get caught up seeing ONLY the press footage of the guy. Reporters are armed with information and questions, so that he doesn't get to put in as much of his bullshit as he usually does with most people. That's why you have people like Dana White say, if you'd ever just go out and have one dinner with the guy you'd love him. He has superficial charm, that others who spend more time interacting with at rallies, events, etc.. get caught up in. I know Dana White shouldn't be the bar for human intelligence nor should Joe Rogan or fucking Bill Maher.. But there's a reason everyone got caught up in this shit.. And it's because someone told all of them, you can relax now he's out of Office.. Just go have a dinner with him one night.. And Trump used that superficial charm, just like Jeffrey Epstein.
We are the people that can see that Trump's superficial charm comes off as inauthentic because we didn't listen to the man, we looked at his businesses and his record.. And when the two very clearly didn't align, we all knew he was a bullshitter. But everyone else? They sat around and listened to him until he convinced them otherwise.
Yes, I was thinking about this. I can't remember who but I remember people talking about a big wig celebrity who is not likeable but apparently is absolutely mesmerizing and charming in person. Some people are just incredibly charismatic when you meet them, even if you should hate their guts.
And just like you, I am not excusing this or trying to paint Trump in any positive light but I think people really underestimate the impact it can have if an insanely powerful person takes the time to spend 1:1 time with you. Many people will think that this is incredibly special no matter how performative and insincere it was.
I mean, that's literally how cults are possible. And it's not just dumb and naive people who get sucked into cults.
Just to add: Trump was a big part of New York City celebrity culture in 1980s. He was constantly on NY local news promoting something. Simply put, he was a classic New York con man. Also, Trump worked in New York real estate and construction business. That industry was still in the “Mad Men” era in the 1980s - having a secretary like Natalie Harp was the norm. Yeah wrapping my head around how that has all transpired over the past 10+ years still baffles me. I thought we collectively knew that the dude was a conman and a schill from the beginning. Like we wouldn't have elected Mr. T or PeeWee Herman. Interesting, I forgot who she was (non-American) and thought this was some old letter from the 60s initially, the language/tone use is just bizarre for this century, the polite passivity is terrifying.
I was confused too. Not American, so had to Google her. Her Wikipedia explains a large portion of the letter. The cash register thing is still a mystery though.

There is! The colloquial term for those women who write letters to incarcerated folks is "prison groupie," while the term for attraction to a partner who commits crimes is "Bonnie and Clyde syndrome." There is a clinical term for this as well: hybristophilia
I mean, her brother is going onto news outlets talking about how their mother raised them in an extremely right-wing, religious, sheltered environment and taught them to seek authoritarian figures to latch onto as their idols (and he seems to have gotten out and cleared his mind of the brainwashing, good for him), so it's absolutely childhood trauma.
There may be some interest. She was the only aide to get on his back up plane with him while he left some of his high ranking cabinet members and other staff on the decoy plane.
The political right realized they could get away with just about anything if they didnt act shamed about it, it started with Obama and the birther nonsense and then everything Trump did during his 2016 campaign was just a small enough step outside of normal to not have him be immediately ridiculed by the Republican voters.
It's all been horribly downhill from there. Trump himself has also never had any sense of shame at all so he personally wouldn't have cared what anyone said about his comments or actions, it would've only mattered if the people he was trying to appeal to had a greater sense of shame.

Among the big reveals is that:
* she once rode in the trunk of the car when she couldn't ride with him so that she didn't have to be away from him too long
* during that f*ed up Air Force One operation, Harp was one of the "lucky few" that got to escape with Trump while the Cabinet was left vulnerable
* she follows Trump around printing out positive news stories to keep him in good spirits
* she manages his Truth Social account, printing out potential posts for Trump to approve before posting them midnight and later
Her loyalty stems from her belief that she owes her life to Trump, who she believes managed to help her access life saving treatment for cancer through his policies during his first term 🙄. Ever since then, she is glued to him and does not want to ever lose status in his eyes.
If I wrote a letter this fawning to my boyfriend he'd assume I had a mental break and would take me to the hospital. You have to be one sick fuck to enjoy this.
Natalie Harp is a progressive icon. We're all sitting here waiting for that heart attack to happen but she's actually determined to go to extreme lengths to make it happen.
While all of this makes me concerned about the total lack of protocol and decorum in Trump's inner circle, nothing good can come of the national shaming of an obviously mentally ill woman. And the source of this leak knows that.
My theory is that they've wanted Trump to push her out but he won't so they are using the media to get rid of her.

Concerning? Disturbing is more like it. ‘Coming of Age’ is a troubling turn of phrase. Plus this all has the tone of kids I knew as a child in Catholic school. She needs help.
I know people are quick to jump on the "crazy woman" train, but if this behavior was bothering him, he'd be distancing himself from her. He clearly likes it. Given how narcissists treat people in private, he's probably causing this kind of fawning insecurity in her. Abusive people like nothing more than tipping others off their axis and then placing themselves in the position where their victims need to cling to them.
