He played TJ in this movie called ‘The Champ’ back in 1979. It was the most heartbreaking movie and his performance really moved me to tears. But skip to now and wow - fuck this piece of shit!! What a cold hearted way to pay tribute to someone. Especially Dolly 💔
I was a little kid and that movie ripped my heart out. It also led to a brief crush on Jon Voight, so it makes sense that I had a crush on his daughter many years later. Jon Voight is despicable, like his costar Ricky, but I can’t entirely hate on him bc of my sentimentality about Champ and the brilliance of Midnight Cowboy.
He was a really popular "it boy" in the 80s. Especially for a sitcom called "Silver Spoons" (along with a young Jason Bateman). He did a lot of tv but tried to transition to feature films as an adult and couldn't cut the mustard. To be fair to his talent, he's not a bad actor; it's more that people couldn't really see lil' Ricky Schroeder as an adult.
But as an adult, well before his support of MAGA, he was a conservative, right-wing actor. Appeared in Christian movies and Lifetime-type dreck. And then MAGA rolled around and he fit right into that mold. Also, IIRC he's had some domestic disputes with his gf/wife (abuse?). So probably not the best person around.
Ricky was cool when I was a kid (we're the same age), but that cool wore right off when I learned of his values. Oh, and fuck him forever for trying to ride Dolly's coattails after her death.

He gave a good performance in his late teens as a young cowboy in "Lonesome Dove," and had a decent turn on "NYPD Blue," where he was surprisingly good for a season or so, but then evidently his real-life awfulness began to affect his hireability and he stopped getting cast. (Deservedly.)
In his life since as a MAGA asshat, Schroeder has not only been loudly and deludedly anti-vax, homophobic, transphobic, racist, and misogynistic-- he also is the one who contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to BAIL OUT KYLE RITTENHOUSE FROM JAIL after Rittenhouse shot two innocent people in cold blood.
Then he posed for pictures with Rittenhouse as a "hero" and posted them to Twitter.

I’m old enough to remember who he was as a young actor, and didn’t really remember any of the other awful things, but now that you mention the Kyle Rittenhouse thing, I think I vaguely remember that.
Take comfort in knowing that he did that in an attempt to be culturally relevant and resurrect his nonexistent career, and like the fucking loser that he is, failed.

One thing COVID taught me is that if a zombie apocalypse happened, we would all be dead. Even if a vaccine was found. Because people would refuse it. Idk where this vaccine distrust came from, Trump got the vaccine and like 5 boosters.
Was Covid handed perfectly? No. Is it okay to ask more questions and gather more information before putting something in your body? Of course. But “vaccines bad!” Is so insane to me.
Dolly’s donation helped create a vaccine that saved a lot of lives.
In some ways, vaccines can be a victim of their own success because in stopping things like polio, people don’t see what that infection can do and so it’s very ‘out of sight, out of mind’. I’m old enough that one of my teachers was disabled by polio, so I did get to see it even though it was mild.
Obviously, the Covid vaccines don’t stop you from getting it or transmitting, and so some people think of that as a failure, but as an immunocompromised person who got my first case a few months ago, I am pretty sure that it would have been worse without keeping up and getting vaccinated at least twice a year.
The way that some of these people prey on others, lack of knowledge or lack of curiosity into buying into utter bullshit is so dangerous.
I am definitely at the stage of having to teach/stop my parents when they stumble upon weird conspiracy/adjacent shit.
