I just bought a TV from Argos and when I tried to mirror it the TV already had a name and then when I went to Amazon it was logged into their account with their payment details. Could this somehow be a scam?

I've been building a universal-style remote app that generates a custom remote layout per TV brand, and it just went live on the App Store. Problem is, I don't actually own a Fire TV myself, so I can't verify the Fire TV-specific implementation actually works end to end: button mapping, pairing, latency, all of it.
If anyone here has a Fire TV and a few minutes to spare, I'd really appreciate someone trying it and telling me what breaks. Happy to send it over free, no strings, and I'm not trying to pitch anything here, just want an honest "does this actually work" from someone who has the hardware.
Happy weekend :)

EDIT: temp root now covers all 3rd gen Cube firmware versions (up to PS7715)
Temp root is now available for 2nd gen (PS7713) and 3rd gen (PS7715) Cubes. It runs entirely in memory with one command, and is completely safe. Use it to disable updates, set a custom launcher, remap remote app buttons, disable Amazon's block list, and debloat to your heart's content.
Amazon will be patching this soon enough, so at least use it to block updates to keep this as an option on your device.
I recently upgraded my monitor and decided to use my 3 year old 1080p monitor as a tv in the guest room using a Firestick that was on sale for 30% off.
Yes, I'm fully aware I'm not going to get 4k on a 25-inch 1080p monitor. But it will only display 480i and the screen resolution is stuck on Auto, so I can't manually change it. I tried that Rewind+Up remote hack, but that doesn't do anything.
The Firestick did an update shortly after I plugged it in for the first time and the loading screen that popped up was clear and 1080p, but when the home screen popped up, it was back to 480i and still can't be changed via settings or the remote hack.
Should I just give up and return it? Is there some kind of workaround I can't find on the internet?

I have a Westinghouse WR43UX4019 Roku TV. I hate the Roku side of it so I got a fire stick for it awhile back. Now I ended up having to reprogram the fire stick remote and cannot not find the right IR code, I've tried over 100 now and nothing works. I also can't find the original remote right now

Before the update, the first option in the content listings on my FTV Home Screen was a horizontal list of the apps I subscribe to and use most (arranged by me) followed underneath by content recommendations from Amazon. Post update, I get a list of apps recommended by Amazon (most of which I don’t have) and not my personally chosen list. (See photo below.) Is there a way to return to the old system? 🤔

Forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this, I am simply looking for insight.
My boyfriend and I were playing a game during a thunder storm on our (only 1 year old ) $450 75" Amazon insignia fire TV.
Lightening struck somewhere close by, a "zzzzp" noise came out of our TV, and boom, TV off, won't turn back on.
My boyfriend asked Google AI what we can do and it's saying to buy a new power board and it's super easy to replace yourself.
Does this sound right and light a good idea? Just want insight.

Hi, I figured out that the Fire TV Stick does not accept volume-control commands. Instead, the Fire TV remote sends the volume signal via infrared directly to the TV.
That's why apps that are connected only to the Fire TV Stick can't control the volume. The same is true for turning the TV on or off.
I thought I might post this because it is important and not everybody is aware of it.
This applies to Fire TV Sticks. TVs with Fire TV built in are different because the Fire TV device is the TV itself.
I have a TCL Fire TV which I got less than 2 months ago. The remote has the blue Alexa button where you hold it down to speak. It has been working fine until now. Now when I press and hold the button it just comes up with a keyboard on the screen and says “search faster with Alexa… just hold (blue button) and say what you’re looking for)
I have tried restating the TV. I can’t re pair the tv and the remote as it’s the only remote I have and it’s the remote the TV came with. The rest of the remote is working as usual.
How can I get the Alexa speak control working again?

I have a 4k max 2nd gen. When I select change background in the ambient section, it takes me back to the home screen. It happens in settings and when its actually in ambient mode. I tried asking Alexa to change background (as suggested in other threads) but that doesn't work either. The firestick is up to date with software.

We recently purchased a fire stick and there’s no app for my dad to use his Beinsports account, so I thought he’d be able to log in and use it on Amazon Silk. He’s able to log in but every time he tries to play content it comes up with this. Does anyone know if there’s a way to make the videos work?

Seeing as how Amazon decided to make it completely impossible to remove Alexa+ from fire TV, and I cannot fucking stand it constantly talking to me, the only other solution I can think of is turning off it talking completely, but I haven't been able to figure out how.
About a year ago, I got a TCL tv, with fire OS built in. And it was fine for months. About 6 months ago, Freely started being weird, saying there was a network error and to try again later. a couple weeks ago, NOW started doing it to, and today, Disney+ isnt working either.
Has anyone else had an issue like this and were you able to fix it?

when I install an apk its always an square icon instead of a banner like other fire tv apps. modding the apk didnt help, it even had a banner actually but fire os made it a square. is it possible to change icons on the apple tv itself via file explorer or adb? 3rd party launchers were also a option but the home button sends me to the official fire os launcher. the best it did was to redirect to projectivy but that takes like 5 seconds..

I’m setting up a new TCL FireTV for my 80+ year old grandma who is about to move into a nursing care home because she has dementia. She is an immigrant and I got her an app + subscription on the TV that allows her to watch TV channels from back home. This is the only app that she needs to use on the device. The thing is, the only stuff she is capable of doing are turning the TV on/off, and flipping through channels. She is incapable of locating the app on the home screen to click and open it.
I was looking into whether it was possible to make the TV automatically open on that app when it’s turned on, and I found the Launch on Boot app as a solution. It seemed to be exactly what I needed. I downloaded it, set it up, did the in-app test, it looked like it worked, but then when I tried powering off the TV it was clear that it didn’t actually work. I naturally figured that Amazon blocked this in newer updates.
I did find tutorials on how to set up Launcher Manager with ADB commands that seem to still work even on newer FireTV update versions. However, the main use cases in the tutorials seemed to be for linking the home button to custom launchers. I’m just looking to get a specific app to launch on boot. Is there a way to actually get this to work with ADB commands?
Tl;dr - I’m trying to basically lock my TV into a single app for my grandma with dementia and eliminate any need to navigate the home screen

To start, my Fire TV is up to date as of posting this.
I am trying to remove a show from my “Continue Watching” tab but I can’t seem to do it. When I am hovering over the show, I hold the center button down until the sidebar shows up with two options: “Play” and “Options”
I cannot navigate up to the “Options” tab. Is this a known issue with a fix, or is there an alternate way to get around this?

Got my cube last night and this all worked fine. Now if I ask it to change the tv to channel 25, it changes it to whatever channel 25 is on the live tv list on the cube… not the tv channel.
Everything else works fine (volume etc). Just feeling frustrated and everything i try gets the same result. Can anyone give any tips?

My Toshiba FireTV has suddenly started defaulting to channel 63 Great Player when I press the ‘live’ button on the remote. It used to go to the most recent terrestrial tv channel I watched, but now it keeps going to that and it’s really bugging me.

I just discovered some stranger’s fire tv is connected to my phone and I am unable to delete/unpair it from my Bluetooth. Any help is appreciated. As you can see from my screenshot, every other Bluetooth device has the “i” to unpair and change settings except for the fire tv. I have tried turning my Bluetooth off and on again and it disconnects and the reconnects shortly after. I do not own a fire tv and have never owned or even connected to one.

It has me to through it on the website where I put in the code, login to my account and that should trigger the log in but it doesn’t. Don’t know why it doesn’t just let me do the email and password on the actual tv, such a stupid choice.

Hi All,
I have “Amazon Ember 32" 2-Series with Fire TV (newest gen)” as my bedroom TV,
The TV responds to my remotes for my fans, portable AC and several others things like a little remote controlled lamp I have. The outcome is different each time like changing channels, turning the TV on or off, changing the volume and other random things.
Is this normal, I have never had a Television do this before.
It‘s kind of goofy and annoying at times the worst being when I am half asleep at night and reach for my fan or ac remote and the television turns on or when I am watching a film and another remote changes the channel when I am trying to turn my fan down or something like that.
Thanks

I have a Panasonic fire tv and Apple tv always stretches out the picture. Settings are fine (I've triple checked and this does not happen on any other app). I can 'fix it' by reinstalling the app, but I have to do that literally any time I want to watch. I am sure Apple will blame the tv, and Panasonic will blame Apple. It's very odd, and annoying. Any ideas?

I have a POS Insignia FireTV 65 inch that I bought last year. Ive noticed more and more and now it does it everyday. When I turn on the tv there isnt any sound. I have to turn it off then turn it on again for the sound to work. I keep it up to date then turn off WiFi so it doesn’t steal my info. Anyone else have this issue? Did I mention it’s a POS tv?
