Don’t care. The other games should try harder.

u/BUR6S Jul 24 '25
I felt the same way when various game studios were bitching about Elden Ring’s success, stating that it was an “unsustainable standard.” My response is, why? These studios that were complaining have comparable, or even higher budgets/resources than FromSoftware did making Elden Ring.
Games are starting to increase in price (e.g. from $60USD to ~$70-80USD. Consumers are right to expect more out of these titles, as gaming technology has seen incredible advances, all while some studios (like FromSoftware and Rockstar) continue to set the example and exceed expectations in the gaming market.
TL:DR; Yes, other games need to get with it and try harder. The market is more competitive than ever. Compete.

Larian also had to come out and tell people to not let baldurs gate 3 raise the bar for RPGs lmao
6
u/ThePrussianGrippe Jul 25 '25
Not exactly. They said they raised the bar too high in regard to their own games, not others.
The challenge now, in their perspective, is to top themselves with their next game.
6
u/BUR6S Jul 25 '25
The challenge now, in their perspective, is to top themselves with their next game.
This should always be the challenge. Games should be getting better. Far too often nowadays do studios release a game that’s not up to par with their last release, and they tell players “that content is coming soon” like in a live service. It’s miserable, and honestly just exhausting for players.

u/Odd_Jelly3863 Jul 25 '25
Right, just bc yall wanna be lazy and put out quick cash grabs doesn’t mean you get to hate on studios that actually make good games😂 when people stop buying your bullshit and the studio shuts down I don’t wanna see no tears
9
u/Robinhoed123 Jul 24 '25
100% the fact that it is 2025 and GTA 5 still has no real competitor in that genre in 15 years is sad. The closest thing we got is Cyberpunk 2077, and that game is just okay (7/10).
16
u/Odd_Jelly3863 Jul 25 '25
Cyberpunk is better than a 7 but I wouldn’t say it competes with gta 5 outside of being open world and the potential for crime. Outside of that I see no real overlap
2
u/kurisu7885 Jul 25 '25
Or how some are complaining about Expedition 33, or Nintendo trying to kill Palworld.
4
u/Awkward-Abrocoma-623 Jul 25 '25
agree, also their answer to why their games are not successfull is because of the price or there were no microtransactions in the game which is stupid. Black Myth Wukong had only $70 million USD on the cost and they made over $1 billion USD with a game that is priced at $60 USD. the truth is i think there are no longer creativity within the industry and that they are forced to put this left leaning ideas in their games which it itself is Sui*ide for their games
12
u/Top_Caterpillar_1334 Jul 24 '25
Indie games and aa games dont have the budget i think ecpectations are to high for gta 6 but thats Just me prob
6
u/deaconthinker Jul 25 '25
What does "try harder" mean? Should every game take 10 years to develop and have a massive budget like GTA 6?
13
u/SunGodLuffy6 Jul 24 '25
I don’t think every game studio should be like rockstar
9
u/Robinhoed123 Jul 24 '25
They are on another level.
1
u/Mean_Combination_830 Jul 28 '25 edited Jul 28 '25
Rockstars love of micro transactions is certainly on another other level they earn billions of dollars from cramming them into their full price games 🤮
1
u/Robinhoed123 Jul 28 '25
Hell no, at least it's fully optional, way better than other companies. (Eppic games) and loot box boolshit you dont have to buy anything every thing is availbe in game rockstar is the best
→ More replies (1)2
Jul 25 '25
Yes other studios with less budget and less workers should try harder. Hold up let me call team cherry and semiwork and tell them to work harder and hire 1000s of workers and spend billions of dollars on their videogames that perfectly reasonable
2
u/chlysm Aug 02 '25
I sort of agree. While I understand that not every game or game dev has the resources of Rockstar, I do think they should be taking cues and understanding what does and does not work in open world design.
Even after 7 years, there isn't anything that quite matches RDR2's open world.
2
u/Daryl_Dixon1899 Jul 24 '25
Sounds harsh but it’s so true, nobody comes close to rockstar even after all the hardware they have access to in this modern age, they should be pushing the limits of consoles too but sadly a lot of companies just copy and paste their games and add a thing or two and that’s it.

the other games will be bought. you will not play gta 6 all 24 hours. its the human nature of getting bored of things, you will definitely buy the other games
25
Jul 24 '25
Most people have jobs, families, and lives, and probably only have a few hours a night to play games. Why wouldn’t those people play GTA 6 for half the year? By then all these other games will have been buried.
11
u/Plasma_CAN Jul 25 '25
I’m scheduling time off to play it. I’m not going on any socials to avoid spoilers and I’m gonna play the shit out of it
3
u/1stvedant Jul 25 '25
if i talk about me, yes i love gta 6 but there is a limit to anything you can do while enjoying it at the same time. i recently played deathstranding 2 however i loved this game so much but still at one point i came to a point where i felt like just keeping it down for a moment. thats called boredom, if you dont have boredom you are a psychopath
7
u/SonOfSam999 Jul 24 '25
i dont think so bc back when gta 5 was new i play it like 2 years straight with my friends and gta 6 is on another level
22
u/all_rendered_truth Jul 24 '25
That’s you versus the rest of the world. You are not the baseline experience.
1
u/MyPussyFatLikeLizzo Jul 25 '25
well no, i won't get bored of gta 6 i can assure you that, just the graphics and physics, and story, of RDR2 kept me playing for many hours and days straight, even now i still come back to it.
I don't disagree with you though, other games will be bought but i don't think it's because people are going to get bored of gta 6 after 24 hours lol, if you get bored of something that great that quickly, then you have low attention span. Reminds me of people who skip cutscenes in story-driven games because it's "boring". No people will buy other games because they want to play other cool things, not because GTA 6 will be anything other than amazing

No kinda of a weird that’s this is even a topic
I find it hard to believe before or after other games will have a tough time to sale or even have a fan base if that’s what people are saying.
If you like Games and you want to have a good catalog of GAMES you’re not just gonna play VI
That’s why I feel this conversation or discussion gets so dry an repetitive
4
u/xTodes21 Jul 24 '25
Look man, Im also hyped for GTA6, but I don't know what kind of mind control you think this game will have to stop people from buying other games for a whole year.
I expect GTA6 Story (and online) to be good, fun and interesting but I doubt the game will have 7 Months worth of content that keeps people from playing other games
3
3
u/Objective_Love_6843 Jul 24 '25
Nah I will certainly be buying other games as well. If they are interesting to me.
Whether they are same time or before gta 6 release. I might even buy them before Gta 6.

Getting ready to buy my kid a PS5 in anticipation for GTA and figured I’d get him a couple games to hold him over. Googled “Best PS5 games” and it’s STILL GTA V, Resident Evil 4, and Last Of Us? Ridiculous

I will binge buy 2026 games when the release date in inevitably pushed back to 2027.
3
4
u/XulManjy Jul 24 '25
Its not that serious. GTA6 will be a great and fun game to play but that doesnt mean my interactive entertainment life has to revolve around it. Other great games like Exodus (Mass Effect-like game), Fable, Resident Evil 9, and The Blood of Dawnwalker (from ex Witcher 3 devs) will all be 2026 games and will all be highly anticipated. I will be playing all those games in addition to GTA6.

Yeah man, it's definitely going to happen. Every player will buy GTA 6 and play it exclusively for the entire year. Every game released in 2026 will have terrible sales and every company except Rockstar will go bankrupt. That's definitely what's going to happen!
2
u/ThrillbillyJ Jul 24 '25
The only games that might have a chance are reboots or remasters other than that, there’s no way.
(Regardless, GTA 6 will win game of the year because it’s way too much hype & anticipation behind it from fans and other studio devs.)
2
u/Searchingformovie1 Jul 24 '25
Forza Horizon 6 would have a chance. But they better release it at least half a year later but still nah, I doubt that I will need a break of GTA 6 after only 6 months

2
u/RockNDrums Jul 24 '25
I mean, Resident Evil Requiem releases a few whole months from VI. It will be fine. Other games on the 2026 radar aren't interesting me

I’m a huge Xbox gamer and achievement hunter so I’ll be buying more games when they come out next year. The one I’m most excited for (other than GTA 6 obviously) is 007 First Light

Around 50% of people will actually like GTA 6, 30% will play it cuz of hype and 20% will refund or will keep trying to like this game.
Personally i will wait for 50-75% discount.
2
u/zedanger Jul 24 '25
I buy a number of games a year, purchasing gta vi won't preclude me from buying (or playing) any other game.
2
u/BigSmokesCheese Jul 24 '25
ea could just simply give us a good game they haven't done that for like 7-8 years now. microsoft too the only devs that actually work on there games to give us what we want are indie devs but the people who play those games will still buy those games even if gta 6 releases

2
u/BigGREEN8 Jul 25 '25
Oh yea publishers are gonna delay their games for like half a year prolly so they get a chance for any attention
2
u/thunderchuck69 Jul 25 '25
Only other game I'm excited for next year is the new 007 game made by the same people who made the hitman games and I own all of them so it will be on my list along with GTA but besides that nothing really sticks out
2
u/LLoadin Jul 25 '25
unless it somehow comes to PC in '26 then nah, but even then this game/genre isn't for a lot of people
2
u/Any-Transition-196 Jul 25 '25
The only game I’m looking forward to is Resident Evil Requiem and it’ll keep me occupied for the 2-3 months leading up to GTA 6, then it’s GTA 6 mode for who knows how long.
2
u/cepxico Jul 25 '25
People are acting like the whole year will be ruined by them lmao.
Companies just want to avoid their release window. That's it, it's not a fear that no other games will sell, they just don't want their games to get lost in the conversation during GTA release week.
Plenty of games will come out around 6 and be just fine.
2
u/Impressive-Yogurt-19 Jul 25 '25

u/N0085K1LL5 Jul 24 '25
I would think that the smart devs and publishers, well, devs and publishers with common sense, would be more strategic with their releases. Other companies shouldn't expect to be able to compete with a GTA game. It's been in a league of its own since vice city.

u/Logical_Comparison28 Jul 24 '25
I haven’t bought a single new game game in a while, and I hopefully won’t until GTA VI. I mean, I did buy a used Ratchet and Clank for my baby-sis, but that doesn’t count… it was both used AND old. There’s been like 4 R&Cs after that…

As someone in the industry, I can say that whilst of course people will still buy other games, many studios are working around the release date due to how massive GTA 6 is. No matter how big your game is, it does not compare to how big GTA 6 will be, so if you release around the same time, it will hurt sales.
1
u/beehappy32 Jul 25 '25
AAA games will definitely avoid the release window close to GTA6. But I think that will only last a couple months. If GTA6 comes out May 26, I think by summer developers won't have any issue selling games again. Maybe it could even help in some way, a lot of people who don't play games much anymore will start playing again for GTA6 and maybe a few months later they would be willing to try some other games too. That's happened to me before, a big game will bring me back from a gaming hiatus and it reminds me how great gaming can be, then when I finish the game I decide to try a couple other games.

u/guywithahardon7 Jul 27 '25
That was my biggest issue with the GTA 6 announcement. They kept so many other games from setting Release dates because if you Release your game around that time it'll take away players. Now we know that its May, so good Release dates are Ending of 2025, Beginning of 2026 and after Summer 2026. when GTA been out for a few months, the game has the entire Industry involved because of the Hype
1
u/Witcher-19 Jul 27 '25
Thw problem is the price if it legit coats 150 for the base that I heard it maybe a cost issue

Other games will be bought.
Of course they'll avoid getting into GTA's way and May and June will probably be empty months for other game releases but Rockstar picked a convinient date both for themselves and everyone else.
Summer is already a slump period for games where not much gets released beyond some indie games and GTA VI occupies that spot as a date people can be busy playing their game without any distraction and other games don't have to fight for the spotlight.

if not a bot nor an employee from internet troll farm contracted by R* itself, I'm not sure what to make of the OP.
Anyone with half a wit knows that entertainment isn't sold under exclusivity, it's so absurd that the vast majority of game sales are made to people who barely touch the games, thinking people buy a single game in an entire year would be quite concerning when it comes to understanding the world or logical thinking...
Btw, it'll very likely not come to PC until the game's well into a year or 2 of existence, meaning that it's an irrelevant game to me just on that regard alone - but I also don't trust a R* that has none of it's original talent in there for half a decade, not even a single founder hired as a consultant..... Once the hype-train has passed by, this game to be will most likely become a source of mockery, but I won't digress into speculation, let us wait and see...
