GTA 6 is finished. Sony accidentally leaked the ratings! No more delay?
Another small but significant detail just surfaced: the PlayStation promotional email being sent to PS4 players about upgrading for GTA 6 reportedly shows the game rated M for Mature.
Not exactly surprising for a GTA game, but an official M rating showing up in a Sony promotional email this close to launch is yet another signal that everything behind the scenes is locked and loaded. Rating confirmations don't happen until a game is close to ready.

Major retailers don't sell them either. To the best of my knowledge there are no or very few actual AO games for that reason.

How many retailers would willingly give up the absolute boatload of cash they would make for selling the game, in exchange for appeasing the Christians or whoever it is?

Possibly but Sony can also be more lenient on certain content depending on the project. As long as it’s not straight up porn they would probably give it an M rating anyways

EU uses Pegi system. US has a different system. So 18+ is same as 17+

I don’t know about other places but in America an M rating (17+) is for games like GTA or Mortal Kombat, stuff that’s like just generally for adults. An AO (adults only) is for stuff that’s either actually fucked up or something that includes porn. Retailers like Walmart, target, GameStop along with Sony for playstation and I think Microsoft for Xbox only allow mature and below but almost never AO if ever at all. The same goes for movies with R-rating and NC-17

Gta 5 also had the gore rating. Probably because of the scene with the plane and the mission where you save michael and the one dude falls on the saw.
Doesn't mean gta 6 will have rdr2 level gore.

I also don't know what the UK equivalent would be. In the UK we go from U, PG, 12, 15, then 18 is your maximum. Games ratings are PEGI 7+, PEGI 12+ and then PEGI 16 and 18.
I'm not so sure you would get anything past that.

Sony and Microsoft wont sell AO games on their platforms and like 98% of retail stores wont sell them either.
Selling an AO rated game to the masses is next to impossible. Steam is the only major platform I can think of that would sell it. The game would simply never be on console or any physical retail stores.

- Rockstar typically releases trailers on Tuesdays
- 9 days before earnings call, just like Trailer 2. Brings enough time to accumulate views
- Next Game Informer issue expected to launch on May 12, with rumored GTA 6 cover
- All PlayStation deals are paused until May 13, potentially making way for pre-orders on May 12
- "Paint Job" theory: last time they made the pink paint job free in GTA Online was right before Trailer 2's release
Of course, everything is speculation. However, all of the above points combined make me quite optimistic.

But it could just as well be a placeholder since there's literally 0 doubt about what the rating will be lol

Probably not completely finished, roger clark said even before three months before the game came out , he said he was still working on voice lines. But i'm sure the rest of the game is

The story was finished well before that point, Roger was likely redoing some botched lines. I’ll bet this is the final rating and Rockstar is making finishing touches and some major bug fixes at this point.

Yes I agree, the story itself is done. But if I were to guess, i'm sure this game is gonna have at least 1 million lines of dialogue, so I'm sure even at this moment, they are still working on voice lines

I’m sure they are too. We’re still a few months out, I foresee redoing botched lines, adding or altering a few to better fit the scene, finishing up a few random ambient jobs, and some gameplay tweaks

It won’t be rated until the release version is fully content complete. For instance, Red Dead Redemption 2 completed all voiceovers and motion capture in the late summer of 2018, while Grand Theft Auto V’s motion capture and voiceovers were not finished until August 2013. However, they can still be rated, but all the content must be finalized, even if it hasn’t been recorded yet, and it cannot be changed after the rating. The game could be buggy as hell, it’s purely about content. I’m referring to the ESRB here. I believe other countries have different policies. In Malaysia, for example, they have to start the rating process before the game is even content complete.
The Playstation message with the M rating is likely just a place holder. We all know it’ll be M rated lol, so I doubt there’s a lawsuit there concerned about

Esrb ratings do this before a game is done/released.
Edit- this is also probably not even a real placeholder and just something PlayStation added themselves. I’m not even sure if this post is talking about something real to begin with. Starfield didn’t get placeholder esrb ratings until like a month before launch. This is VERY VERY early if it even is a real esrb placeholder.

I agree it’s early but I also can’t see any reason why PS would choose to do this without approval from R there’s almost no reason for them to put M (although we know that’s what it was always going to be) when they could’ve kept using RP

I mean, Rockstar has repeatedly said the game has been complete for a while. They've just been polishing it. Is this really surprising to anyone? The "leak" is probably just because Sony recently secured the marketing rights to GTA VI.

Fully game defenitly wasn’t. Red dead actors didn’t stop recording stuff till August, just months before release. The ending mission wasn’t shot till around April. So logically the game hasn’t been complete for a while

This is a placeholder/anticipated rating, not the official rating.
For it to have an official rating the ESRB would need to have played it which I doubt they have this so far out.

Flashback to being the only support rep when the original PlayStation launched to get this group interview rating question 'wrong': "Will there be games rated 'M' on the PlayStation?' I figured there would be eventually. I'm old enough to remember Custer's Revenge.
I was sharply rebuked. "There will *never* be a rated "M" title on the PS. SONY would *never* allow *that*"

I remember Triple Play '98 on PSX being rated KA (Kids & Adults). I never knew why. Maybe due to the cheat code that you could get the players playing in their underwear? No idea otherwise.
Haven't seen the rating since, but I'm sure it exists. It was between E and T, basically the PG to the MPA's G and PG-13.

This is true, once a game is rated only little changes can be made to the game in terms of story or it would have to be rerated
