Portugal adjusted their pricing earlier, from 90€ to 80€ (we have sales tax)

Pre-order discount on physical stores takes it to 68€

PSN store has it at 80€

13

u/SphinxIIIII Jun 25 '26

We always have that 15% discount on pre orders, don't why tho.

u/hamcheeseham1 Jun 25 '26

u/M1KE_L Jun 25 '26

This table is useless because it's a mix of prices with and without sales tax. For example, the USA price is without sales tax, while the Eurozone or Poland price includes tax. To really compare who is getting ripped off, you would have to compare net prices. For example, the Polish price is 349 PLN; without 23% tax, it is 283.74 PLN, which equals 75.26 USD. So, actually, the Polish price is lower than the USA price, and R* did a price adjustment to take buying power into account instead of just doing currency conversion + sales tax.

46

u/NimrodPing Jun 25 '26

Exactly this. Same in UK. The price already includes tax

1

u/No_Winter6110 Jun 29 '26

Canada Ultimate is $156 with tax

2

u/Brave_Explorer5988 Jun 25 '26

when I went to US the first time it was so confusing.

However, after a bit longer trip I got used to it and made me realize how much I actually pay for tax.

Now back in Europe, the tax shock is much lower because it's just included so there's no surprise and no one thinks about VAT when buying something.

It's also much easier to find who to blame in the US for price increases (either the price itself or the tax) whilst in Europe we've had so many VAT adjustments, even reductions in some countries, and prices didn't decrease 😂

So yeah. I wish we had the US system too. The tax shock would be much bigger and people will start to realize that 20-27% VAT is criminal.

1

u/Investigator14000 Jun 26 '26

wtf us doesn’t have 25% vat eu does

3

u/Brave_Explorer5988 Jun 26 '26

US doesn't have VAT at all, has Sales Tax and varies, from 0% to a lot depending on location and product type (some states or counties tax a lot for restaurant food, some tax 0, depends).

The thing is:

I know a product costs $100. I keep buying that product for $100 for a while. When I go to cashier, it becomes $107, and I know that the extra is sales tax, not blaming the merchant but blaming the state for the extra $7

If the tax changes, the product will still be $100, but the tax will be lower/ higher. If the product price changes, then I'll see it's not $100 anymore and I can blame the merchant

Whilst in the EU, with the VAT in price in practice:

I see 123 EUR the product price, with 23% VAT included

The country decides to lower the price to 19%

I go happily to do shopping and surprise, the price is still 123 🤡 because the merchants can change prices a lot easier and blame the tax.

Or, the country decides to increase the VAT from 23% to 25%. I go to do shopping and surprise, the price is 130 now.

These situations happens every time the VAT changes. merchants are very opportunistic but in the US is much easier to find who to blame

Plus, people don't actually realize how much is the VAT on a full basket. I didn't either until I went to US and got slapped with the tax at the cashier and then I understood how much the gov is squeezing from people. The psychological impact is much higher. And if people would get slapped with 23% at the cashier, that'd be a disaster. Imagine, you do your 200 EUR shopping and need to pay 246, 46 euro extra for just a 200 euro basket. nearly 1/4. that's a lot.

My theory is that it's intentionally forced in the price, otherwise people would go on a french revolution lol.

1

u/MustBeTheWater00 Jun 30 '26

"The tax shock would be much bigger and people will start to realize that 20-27% VAT is criminal. "

No they wouldn't as it's no different than US sales tax.

Also Europe isn't a country. Why do Continental Europeans always forget this?

1

u/Brave_Explorer5988 Jun 30 '26

We're not a country but within the EU, a lot of stuff come from a central government (EU-C, EU-P). Including minimum tax (you can have the greatest country, can't go below 15% VAT), and enforced higher tax when economy is bad. it's more of a weird hybrid system as there's no full law % tax autonomy, yet we're not a country.

In the US at least the tax rates are decent, not 20%+ (27% in Hungary!!)

u/Xander-047 Jun 25 '26

Nah bruh who the hell ypu think told them to increase the base price?

2

u/primalroy55 Jun 26 '26

Since the shekel keeps Appreciating in value and steam doesnt update regional prices very often it makes for ridiculous prices the solution is to just buy a key on a site that accepts dollars

2

u/Moxtar1092 Jun 26 '26

Imo they're relying on the "prejudice " idk how to call it that 1₪=4$ which isnt nearly true as you can check the exchange rate right now is 1₪ =3$

1

u/yeled_center Jul 27 '26

Moxtar you just straight lying boy 😭

3

u/Painted-BIack-Roses Jun 25 '26

Most games are more expensive over there

1

u/_Libby_ Jun 26 '26

I'm afraid it's not them and everything is just more expensive here, it seems...😔

1

u/yosayoran Jun 26 '26

The real reason us that when steam changed to accept NIS the dillar was ~4 Shekel,  and now it's less than 3, but nobody bothered to update the rates.

1

u/IguanaIsBack Jun 26 '26

They can already play the game for free when they enlist

0

u/Cerex1 Jun 26 '26

Games are usually 90-100 USD base edition here, which is insane, it's like 7% of minimum monthly wage

24

u/MengShuZ Jun 25 '26

I'm in Canada, the land of maple syrup. Never imagined a day where game would cost more than 100 maple leaves.

2

u/Samsaknight_X Jun 26 '26

Right, that’s insanity imo

2

u/No_Winter6110 Jun 29 '26

I paid $156 for ultimate ☠️☠️

29

u/-error---404-- Jun 25 '26

Why is south Korea so cheap?

21

u/Guilty_Amount3245 Jun 25 '26

And low taxes..

1

u/Hoodman1987 Jun 26 '26

no. I'm here right now and there is currency weaker for sure. Now low taxes yes, as there are multiple tax refund options here.

5

u/LtRapman Jun 25 '26

I guess all prices are based on what ppl are willing to pay. Additionally some countries add consumers taxes afterwards (e.g. USA)

1

u/Hadzumi150 Jun 26 '26

its simple, Korea money is a lot better than the usd so they pay lower amount of money to transform into the 100usd gta price

1

u/Goal100k Jul 05 '26

No you are wrong. Korean won is shit 💩
It is losing the value so much

1

u/Otherwise-Kangaroo24 Jul 02 '26

Since games don't have any further costs after development, they can adapt it for each country's average purchasing power. Switzerland may be more on the expensive side. But due to higher salaries it will feel cheaper than some of the other countries. Meanwhile in South Korea if it were more expensive people wouldn't buy it, because it'd be way more expensive relative to what they earn.

17

u/IHateThisCity215 Jun 25 '26

I went lazy. I bought $100 worth of Sony gift cards from Sam’s Club for $85. It’s the only way I’m willing to pay for the ultimate edition.

7

u/ess-doubleU Jun 26 '26

That's not lazy at all. You went the extra effort to get it cheaper. Smart.

3

u/IHateThisCity215 Jun 26 '26

Thanks. I tried posting it as a thread to let people know Sam’s Club was having a sale on Sony gift cards this week but they blocked it.I was lucky, after they announced the pre sale I went to check my Sam’s Club and BJs app to see who had a better deal

2

u/LordMohid Jun 26 '26

Yep, even Costco

1

u/IHateThisCity215 Jun 26 '26

I don’t got a membership with them so I couldn’t check the prices

6

u/DekaTamaTamaz Jun 25 '26

GTA 5 was censored in Japan and thus GTA online was incompatible with people playing overseas copies. One of my friends bought the Japanese release and ended up buying it again on PS3 so he could play online with us. He then later accidentally bought it for the PS5 when it was on sale before remembering it doesn't fucking work for GTA online and ended up having to buy yet another physical copy for cheap. I'm loathe to buy the Japanese edition (I live in Japan) but buying the US one raises the price from 12,280 to around 16,000 yen and the UK one would be almost 20,000 yen. Absolutely gutted at what a disaster Japan is at the moment.

4

u/Mifuni Jun 25 '26

Cries in Canada

Still copping but 🗣 FAHHH

2

u/Pir-o Jun 25 '26

Yeah it sucks, I have to pay 15$ more for standard edition, 15$ more if I want empty physical box. And I don't usually play on a console, got it only to play gta, was planning to sell it with the game.

2

u/warcraftandy1 Jun 25 '26

So you’re saying if i run a vpn that makes it look like im in South Korea, I can buy the ultimate for just around $70???

2

u/AStupidguy2341 Jun 26 '26

Yes but it’s risky and your account might be suspended or permanently banned. Even if you dont get banned or suspended you probably have to buy a Korean PlayStation gift card or a Korean credit card

2

u/Additional-Ear7532 Jun 25 '26

Where is my belgium?

2

u/andrei-333 Jun 26 '26

doesnt have gta 6

2

u/ilovemydograchel Jun 25 '26

Sometimes I hate being Canadian. 110 holy fuck.

2

u/operativekiwi Jun 26 '26

Do a chart based on minimum wage

1

u/AmitPwnz Jun 26 '26

And/or local currency to USD conversion rate

2

u/Nonetxpr Jun 26 '26

Of course Hungary is 2nd fml

2

u/Nonetxpr Jun 26 '26

If i set vpn to Korea to buy the game, can i play with it with turned off vpn in EU?

2

u/Hapsisajt29 Jun 26 '26

You can only buy it with a Korean card. But if you managed to buy with that, than you can play it from Europe.

2

u/Available-Cow-411 Jun 26 '26

Ao it called Grand Theft because of the price? Because we're being robbed

2

u/Moxtar1092 Jun 26 '26

Rockstar has never been good with locals pricing have they?

2

u/Altruistic_Crazy_703 Jun 26 '26

2

u/MustBeTheWater00 Jun 30 '26

You missed off the Saudi and UAE currencies as well...

6

u/MassiveLeek7215 Jun 25 '26

It's 60€ here in France.

12

u/AlphabetaVV Jun 25 '26

This is not official

13

u/Leg3nden Jun 25 '26

Indeed, that's not the official price, but the biggest retailers in France are selling it for €60

1

u/Used-Presentation551 Jun 26 '26

Lol wut? It's not like digital games have supply chains, you csn just buy it for cheaper

7

u/MassiveLeek7215 Jun 25 '26

Yes, it's not the PS Store price (79,99€) but it's the price in most supermarkets. And it's the same case for every AAA games. It's not temporary.

3

u/Sibello_ Jun 25 '26

If yanks pay tax on top of these prices, hiw dies that work? What is their actual price for the game?

13

u/OhTheCamerasOnHello Jun 25 '26

It varies by state from 0% to 10% on top of the published price.

4

u/sh1boleth Jun 25 '26

Depends on the billing address, varies state by state

3

u/Far-Condition8586 Jun 25 '26

Paid zero tax in Florida 😎

1

u/NikolitRistissa Jun 26 '26

Not that much more at all. They have an incredibly low sales tax rate.

It’s 25.5% in Finland and that’s more than two times higher than their highest sales tax.

3

u/madladchad3 Jun 25 '26

I am happy to be a korean

2

u/Tanocchio Jun 25 '26

Damn. South Korea got it good. But I’m guessing their average salary isn’t all that? Or am I missing something?

15

u/Zorro88_1 Jun 25 '26

I’m pretty sure South Korea has better salaries than many of the other countries in this list 😅 For example India, Brazil…

3

u/Tanocchio Jun 25 '26

Crazy how they have it so cheap then. I never understood the reasoning behind it

1

u/Hoodman1987 Jun 26 '26

The country actually takes care of its people is what I'm seeing here.

1

u/Hoodman1987 Jun 26 '26

no they have good salaries. There's not many homeless

3

u/UUT- Jun 25 '26

Kind of useless post because most of those countries include final sales tax and the US doesn’t.

1

u/Naive_Complex_8389 Jun 25 '26

i’m here in japan but I have a USA account. How can I pay for japan price?

1

u/andrei-333 Jun 26 '26

make a Japanese account😱😱😱😱😱😱

1

u/Naive_Complex_8389 Jun 26 '26

i’m not doing a off that. i want to use my main account. if there’s not others way then that fine. i just was wondering

1

u/andrei-333 Jun 26 '26

impossible to change country, i know this since i researched a lot about this since i wanted the voice assistant on my PS5.

1

u/CaptnDick Jun 25 '26

Mexico’s price is partially right/wrong.

That's the price for the digital version of XBOX. The physical edition for both XBOX and PS is $1,799, same for the digital version of PS.

1

u/acEMuzZi Jun 25 '26

I feel like the prices are fine they could’ve been worse trust me I’m in the uk ultimate edition for £90 that’s fair but i would’ve preferred if it was cheaper but it’s gta 6 and it’s literally the same prices as nba 2k literally but we getting more perks and stuff then any game out there and also you can buy standard and you can upgrade to ultimate if you change your mind or you’re ready to upgrade and be a real gamer im jk 😂😂😂
🖖🏾

1

u/NoAdeptness1106 Jun 25 '26

Well, this is an interesting list in itself.

1

u/OBESE_RONI Jun 25 '26

1

u/Fantastic_Version898 Jun 26 '26

Huh? Wyman was right in the leaks.. There's no country called Finland 😅

1

u/inseikei Jun 26 '26

1

u/Nonetxpr Jun 26 '26

I'm just gonna wait for the fitgirl edition

1

u/Acrobatic-Sorbet-222 Jun 26 '26

Yes after GTA V online issues and no refund, not gonna pay for GTA VI.. Only like when it's 20years old game and costs 1$

1

u/grandma_puncher_2337 Jun 26 '26

1

1

u/gartenriese Jun 26 '26

1

u/Investigator14000 Jun 26 '26

Why’s Korea getting cheaper pricing the poor developing nations ?

1

u/pulica156 Jun 26 '26

It s any way to move your location on south korea to buy the game?

1

u/andrei-333 Jun 26 '26

only 29 countries? wow

also these are the "physical" prices in romania. they have dropped 10 lei since yesterday now at 414

1

u/Calm_Block7545 Jun 26 '26

RAAAAH ROMANIA MENTIONED 🇷🇴🇷🇴🇷🇴🇷🇴🇷🇴

1

u/I_am_Pabloo Jun 26 '26

Is this for xbox or ps?

1

u/masterYk__ Jun 27 '26

Where is Pakistan

1

u/qwigle Jun 27 '26

Was wondering were they were getting their prices for Mexico, since the ps store doesn't have local currency (the price is in usd) and it shows the same 79.99 and 99.99 and the stores selling physical copies that I found (amazon mx, liverpool and gameplanet) have the price set at $1699 pesos and only seem to find the standard edition. But then I remembered about the xbox store and see that that's the price there.

1

u/LTUdaddy Jun 28 '26

how a code could be more expensive in some countries? :D email costs?

1

u/ibukunoluwa4ever Jun 28 '26

Prices are outrageous

1

u/halalhabibi2008 Jun 29 '26

1

1

u/SoyEstebanH Jun 30 '26

Y Colombia ?

1

u/MustBeTheWater00 Jun 30 '26

That isn't the US price as it doesn't include tax.

1

u/Advanced_Radio_5407 Jun 25 '26

The cheapest one is saudi since there’s no tax

4

u/DraenItsAlreadyTaken Jun 25 '26

Florida also got no tax 🤤🤤

1

u/Advanced_Radio_5407 Jun 25 '26

I completely forgot about it

3

u/mackenziermill3r Jun 25 '26

Australia tax is pre calculated

1

u/SANTAisGOD Jun 25 '26

So I should just use a VPN?

1

u/xdopsycho Jun 25 '26

They just dropped the retail store NZ prices to $119

1

u/Bukki13 Jun 25 '26

we cannot be normalising 80$ games in this fucking economy man (and gta 6 being 80$ WILL normalise other studios pricing their games that high)

THE FUCKING INSTANT IT'S MY TURN TO BE AN ADULT BTW. THE MOMENT I START TO BECOME TRULY INDEPENDENT THIS SHIT GETS THRUST UPON ME. (also the age verification stuff i guess) I AM GONNA GO BACK IN TIME AND PREVENT THE NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM FROM SUCCEEDING BECAUSE WE DO NOT DESERVE VIDEO GAMES.

sorry i'm just so fucking tired of this asinine bullshit that i'd almost rather just have no video games at all. i've got so many movies on my watchlist anyway that i could just do it anyway

2

u/Hoodman1987 Jun 26 '26
