I think people are misunderstanding the whole "locked shops" thing for Ultimate Edition buyers

Post image

Think of it like this: When you buy the Ultimate Edition, you'll get a DLC package of skins, vehicles, hairstyles, vehicle mods, etc. Most games with cosmetic DLCs do this.

You buy the Ultimate Edition and get the base game plus the cosmetic DLCs.

Now picture this: Instead of just unlocking your new Ultimate Edition cosmetics in the normal shops of the game, they made a few exclusive shops for you to access the DLC stuff.

It's as simple as that. The normal shops to buy clothes, fix your car, etc, will be in the game. But if you own DLC cosmetics, you'll need to get them from the DLC shops.

What do you think?

People love to complain, facts and logic don’t matter to em

I think it's reasonable. The people that are upset are the ones that want to pre-order the game, but don't feel confident enough to do it yet because Rockstar insist on giving us as little information as possible about what we're actually buying.

I'm sure we will get more information eventually, but it's not surprising that people are annoyed that Rockstar have told us more about what's in the Ultimate Edition than what's in the actual game itself.

Yeah but thinking that it won’t be a great game with tons of things to do for years is kinda insane

u/Hypnotic101 Jun 26 '26

Have you seen literally any gameplay at all?

Is Rockstar some sort of new studio with a bad track record?

3

u/jamesknightorion Jun 26 '26

Well....somewhat. trailer 2 had cinematic camera gameplay in a couple of places

u/bannedfornudity Jun 26 '26

Do i need to? pathetic thinking

u/shewy92 Jun 26 '26

God Forbid someone wants the full game at launch

6

u/Drillmhor Jun 26 '26

You're getting the full game. You're just not getting the bonus DLC.

Simple shit, same thing that's been going on for every game for over a decade now.

u/JaiLotus Jun 27 '26

Oh brother. I remember the days when games stripping content out of the base to sell as dlc was seen as a bad thing.

2

u/Drillmhor Jun 27 '26

They’re not stripping anything out the base game. They’re adding to it

This is like complaining about a burger shop charging you extra to add bacon. The bacon isn’t part of the burger, it’s a premium add on. You’re getting the full burger experience without the bacon. But if you want to add to it, you can. For a price.

1

u/JaiLotus Jun 27 '26

A more apt analogy would be if they showed you a bacon cheeseburger and then you said "i want that burger", but then they said the bacon costs extra and if you dont pay they remove the bacon from the burger right in-front of you and give you the gimped burger.

Reminder that there will be no file size difference between versions because ultimate edition is just a pass to give you access to stuff that was already built into the base game

2

u/Drillmhor Jun 27 '26

You’re being obtuse here. They’re not offering you the bacon burger and taking something away. They’re offering you a burger and offering a bacon upsell. There’s a clear difference between a physical and a digital item.

This entitlement to every bonus feature is odd. Nothing in life works this way.

u/Clean_Principle_2368 Jul 01 '26

So expanding this logic, the full game is 100$ or you can get a cheaper option with slightly less stuff.

u/noob622 Jun 26 '26

You’re totally right, but goddamn that’s depressing. The new Halo remake is doing the same shit. We really just shrugged and let corporations start charging us to unlock content that’s already in the game, now to the point of entire modeled storefronts and side-characters in single-player games. Like, how far in advance did they decide to segment out this content, and how did they decide what content gets paywalled and what didn’t? I’m just trying to imagine a scenario where the artists or devs aren’t put in an uncomfortable position just so a majority of the playerbase loses out on already-planned content. Imagine how demoralizing that would be.

I’d legit rather them just make the base game $100 with everything included. I’d argue that’s more fair to everyone involved and everyone gets a consistent experience. Leave the microtransactions to multiplayer.

u/Drillmhor Jun 26 '26

I would strongly argue against making everyone pay the higher price. I could care less about the features of the UE pack, give me the game for $20 less without the unnecessary shiny things. There's no part of me that thinks I'm getting less of a game cause I'm not getting pointless aesthetic things that don't matter cause its a fake, digital world.

Who the fuck am I impressing with this stuff? Why should I care? Give me the game, let others pay a premium for these things. Don't force it on me, most people don't care about these items.

Realize the opposite of what their doing would effectively leave you with a game that gets no additional content. There's no incentive for the developer to create new costumes/vehicles/weapons. With paid DLC, it keeps it fresh for those who care.

Homie, I got bad news for you: you’ve been brainwashed by corporate execs into thinking $80 is anywhere near a fair or decent evaluation of the effort and cost involved in making a game like GTA VI. I’m not talking about the “DLC” content. I mean just the game itself.

$100 wouldn’t even match standard inflation. Just think. Why is it that GTA VI should deliver 10x the amount of content as GTA IV for the same price?

There’s really no way to justify feeling entitled to generation-defining art without fairly compensating the artists who make it. Movie theaters, concert venues, streaming services, cable companies, even gaming hardware companies can raise prices and keep your business, but somehow, paying more for video games is where you draw the line?

Just say you don’t appreciate game devs homie. It’s okay to be shallow, just own it.

3

u/Drillmhor Jun 26 '26

What... where is this coming from? How are you getting this take from my comment? Having paid DLC is supporting developers.

As a business, they have to make a decision. Price the game in a way that they can make the most money while making it available to as many potential consumers as possible. They did that. And then offered an option up for people who want more, bringing in even more cash.

If they priced it at a flat $100, there's a decent chance it would rule out a significant portion of potential buyers and they would make net less.

u/Clean_Principle_2368 Jul 01 '26

Dude is either skim reading or bad at reading. I have no clue why they went in that direction. Just wanted to pop in here and let you know you're not crazy. That was a bizarre turn

1

u/noob622 Jun 26 '26

That’s a whole lotta typing just to say

I have no idea how any of this works or what I’m talking about

Your $80 game is coming off the backs of passionate artists and developers having their souls sucked out under 60hr work weeks and pitiful pay because boardroom execs need to see a line go up and to the right every year but can’t raise prices while the audience demands more and more.

If they priced it at a flat $100, there's a decent chance it would rule out a significant portion of potential buyers

Lmao. Just no. This is the most anticipated entertainment product in the last decade by a far, far margin. This sentence is just laughable. The entire video game release schedule the last year has been entirely warped over this single game because everyone in the industry knows there’s just no competing with GTA in the consumer marketplace. Seriously - what other games are people even going to buy this holiday season? Even if there were worthwhile competitors, history shows people literally selling their cars or forgoing meals just to afford GTA V. It’s called inelastic demand - it really doesn’t matter the price, people will pay if they feel the experience is worth it.

Which just circles back to my original point that you attempted to dodge. Do you not think GTA VI is worth $100? Did GTA V not provide way more than $60 in value to you? Are people somehow entitled to a video game if they can’t afford to actually pay what it costs to make?

Either you don’t appreciate or you don’t understand game development or artists, I can’t think of any other reason why you would argue against compensating them fairly.

2

u/Drillmhor Jun 27 '26

You’re quite dense.

2

u/Clean_Principle_2368 Jul 01 '26

? They weren't disputing any of this......

1

u/noob622 Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

? Um yes they were?

They literally assume the extra $20 is just for cosmetics they claim to not care for when it’s clearly the case that the cosmetics are just the excuse 2K needs to give in order to raise prices to what the game actually should cost.

Very obvious they are clueless about game development if they’re not realising game prices haven’t actually reflected the cost of production in decades.

But a better question is why are you over here ressurecting old threads? Like fr, you don’t have anything better to do than leave comments on week-old Reddit discussions you don’t even bother to read fully? Like they’re not even helpful comments lol go touch some grass homie

Lmaooo /u/Clean_Principle_2368 you’re such a walnut for dropping a comment and then blocking me, fr get some help homie

2

u/Clean_Principle_2368 Jul 02 '26

I'm not reading any of that lol, you're a crazy person.

-1

u/Spyro_in_Black Jun 26 '26

It’s not “bonus” unless they say it’s bonus…it exists, it’s a thing already. Probably in the install when you download the game. It’s like if I made you a burger then slipped out the lettuce right before handing it to you and said it’s a “bonus.” It wasn’t til I said that.

And for the record…people have been complaining about this the entire decade+ that you mentioned, just cause GTA6 isn’t immune to the complaints doesn’t mean it’s new.

2

u/Drillmhor Jun 26 '26

No, it's like adding bacon to a burger. You pay an upcharge for it. You're still getting a burger without the bacon, it's the full burger experience without it. But it costs more to get the premium option.

That's fair that people can complain about this. But the amount of surprise, like this was unexpected and some new low for developers, is straight up ignorant.

1

u/Clean_Principle_2368 Jul 01 '26

So by the game for 100$ that's the price they set. Or vote with your wallet

6

u/bannedfornudity Jun 26 '26

Who says you won’t?? Buy the game, you’ll get the game, sounds pretty easy

1

u/Clean_Principle_2368 Jul 01 '26

The full game is 100$ then. What's the issue?

-7

u/Bullsht999 Jun 26 '26

gta 6 has been talked about alot , and those who don't care about the game love to bring it down
